What traditions/superstitions do you follow in regard to the faerie folk? (i.e., do you leave milk/food out for them at night, do you make them special cookies or set places for them at the table during holidays, pennies at the first intersection when you travel, faeries houses, etc.)

I'm interested in hearing what other people do. Even if you are not able to do these things at the moment, what are some traditions/superstitions that you would like to follow?

I'm interested in hearing what everyone has to say! heart

I haven't done this in a while because I just didn't have the materials while we were moving and haven't found them in the last couple of years but I used to leave my barbie furniture in our garden with all my dishes set up for a tea party and I would fill all the bowls, cups and tea pots with honey and whisper "Sunlight fades, stars appear, garden faeries gather here." And then go inside and sleep.

I'm also setting up a faery garden with my coven. We are each representatives from each element so we are going to ban together to create a perfect garden for them as well one of my friends has taken a sudden interest in the fae (not a very convinsing one and it bothers me) but he really wants to make a faery home. I used to have one but someone stole it from our backyard one time. And he wants my help with it.

How lovely! I'm hoping, in a few years when I move into a quieter space, to make a faery house. Right now, I don't think the area I live in is a good spot for one. It doesn't feel right to me and the house would probably be either destroyed, vandalized, or stolen within a week of my putting it out (I live a few houses down from a high school in an inner-city school district...let's just say that some of the students that attend there aren't always respectful of other people's property). I suppose I could situate one inside near a window, but I think it would be better suited outside.

Setting up a garden for the faeries sounds like a wonderful idea. What, in your opinion, will make a good garden for them?

If your coven and the faeries will allow it, could you take pictures of the garden once it is finished? I would love to see it! heart

Of course I will. I'm glad you are interested in it.

A good garden to me is something that just makes you feel at home. Everything must be sweet smelling and bright with a places that they can hide as well as places for them to relax. Then once we have everything the way we want it we are going to put our own energies in and call upon our elements to help the garden grow, to give it love and nutrients, to call all the fae in our respective elements to visit when they'd like, as well as our thanks for the help we receive.

I always seem to find myself singing or dancing for the fae. I feel like I am giving them something in return for their kindness for me. Oh one time when I was small, I dedicated and made a whole song for them. I feel and know that I once was a fae in another life, so doing something like that makes me feel good. I also do it with my Faerie Tarot Deck. I find myself more connected with the cards and the fae. I know for a fact that not all faeries are nice, and trust me I had some mean ones near me before. So I do a protective spell against them every night. Here is the spell if you would like to do it.

Step one: Draw in the air the seven pointed star for the fae, while saying this, "From south to north, from west to east, I command the elements air, fire, water and earth..."

Step two: After the earth element circle the star, and say...
"to circle around me..."

Step three: Over the star draw a cross(note that the cross symbol was used as protective sign with the Celtics long before the Christians' ever used it.) Then say,"And with Heaven's light protect me through the night, until morning light."

This also a faerie prayer, and its job is to protect one from evil spirits, entities, demons, or fae. Do not take this spell lightly. I know countless other spells for protection, but this requires no ingredients. Just a clear and open mind, with a kind and trusting heart!

I wear a 7 point star pendant everyday. I like your chant.

That is cool. And thanks I do that chant everynight. It makes me feel protected and comforted.

I'm new to this and curious about the offering of sugar and honey to fae-like where is it best to leave such things, do containers matter, that like. And I'm curious, if I check them in the morning and they're still there, do I leave it out longer or clean it up? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

The only silly question is one that hasn't been asked! 3nodding

Everyone's answers on this will probably vary, depending on their experiences.

But the best advice I can give is to try and find out if there is anything specific they would like first. The first thing that pops into your mind is usually it, and it may not always be food. If you have trouble connecting with them, however, it's okay to just leave something out that you think they might like.

I've found that they respond best to foods that are as natural as possible. So I don't recommend anything with lots of preservatives or has been over-refined. I have found milk with honey and baked goods made from scratch work well as offerings, when I'm not able to get anything from them and I'm making something for a special occassion. They're normally very happy for the thought regardless of whether they asked for it or not.

As far as containers go, again, in my opinion, the more natural, the better. Some fey like shiney things, so if you have a small glass, crystal, or ceramic plate, that works well. I tend to stay away from plastic and such. I also find small containers are better received that larger ones.

As for checking on the food/other items in the morning, they may or may not be there. Sometimes they will only take the essence of what you give them, and sometimes they will physically take it. Again, I would politely ask if they have taken their fill and, again, first thing that pops in your mind, go with it.

Again, people's answers on this may vary. I'm only taking from my own experiences. I hope this helps in giving you some ideas on what you would like to do! heart

That was very helpful, thank-you! I haven't gotten very, um...kind feedback recently on the site, so thank-you verily verily much for that, too!

User Image Don't give fae clothes, they find this insultive and rude. The fae are usually depicted naked or dressed in foliage for a reason. That reason is to be more connected with nature. They are tenders of the Earth and were put here for that very nature. I also found that wearing green is also an insult because green is considered their color. Red is used as protection against harmful fae, but there have been recordings of faeries wearing red flower like caps. The best drink for a faery is warm milk with a little bit of honey. Faeries won't eat or drink our food, but like Faerie Moon said, "Take its essence instead." Never ever eat faerie food. Once you eat the food, the fae have full control over you. You can do things to abide to the fae and to please them, but do not thank them...this also very insultive and you may end up with some unpleasant situations. The fae love to be singed to, or to have a poem wrote in their honor. They also love dancing. You can give make them gifts, but do out of love and not for want!

The best way to say thank you is to simple say you are kind.

I disagree with the colour green being an insult to them because when I was a little girl my faerie friends would always tell me how pretty I was when I wore green. To this day I have a fae friend who says she loves it when I wear green because it brings out my eyes.

There are also dark faeries such as redcaps that wear red as well. They dip their caps in blood to keep them red.

Well the color green also depends on the faery. Some find it a compliment and others don't. Faeries are tempermental at the most and can be confusing when it comes to their emotions. I know I used to live them, but a faery can never lie. It against their morals too, but they know how to twist and bend the truth. Also if you make a promise with one, they are bound to keep that promise for an enternity. It was lucky for you to have met such nice faeries when you where younger. I am banished from ever hearing or seeing a faery. If you wonder why read my story on the First Experience tab.

As I have never truly had an experience, I want to. I was wondering where the most common places to find the fae are, seeing as I live in a very diverse area. By diverse, I mean we have suburbs, fields, forests, and even a nearby area that has streams, rivers, cliffs and a whole lot of sand. Any ideas where to find the Fae?
