Bren-Bren here creating a Dir en grey fanfiction thread (Just in case the title threw you off)!

What are you thoughts on the idea? Good, bad? Why or why not? Have you written any? And if so, elaborate! Here stands before you a Dir en grey fanfic author happy to discuss writing!

It is my belief that if you post the proper warning beforehand, you should be able to post it... But you'll probably want to check with those higher up in the chain to figure out if you're allowed.

OH that? Oh, go for it! Just gotta have preread warnings. That's all. And then you can post away!

Um, I think I ran into Dir en grey fanfiction once, back when I was just learning about them and I did a search to see if Kyo had a girlfriend and it turned up in someone's fic (thank goodness xd ). I wouldn't mind reading Deg fanfics, though.

Fanfiction of Jrockers is weird to me for the most part because they're real people, not characters someone made up. I'm not sure I'd want people putting me in some of their stories, not with the way some authors write. Violations... If they're just goofy little funny ones, then I'm usually ok with it... like the one with Kaoru and the shark hat...

I don't think I'll ever write one tho. >_o

This is going to be long, 'cause I have a tendency to rant and rave and go on forever. But ...

I, personally, adore fanfiction (to an extent), and am constantly writing it. I figure, if you've posted the proper warnings and given the fic the right rating, everything's fine. If people choose to ignore said warnings, it's their own fault. And before anyone says anything, I'm saying right now that I'd have no problem with people writing yuri fanfiction about me. I'd encourage it biggrin

Of course I realize it's a little weird to write about real, living, breathing people, but I don't see a problem. Just so long as you try to keep them within a proper character-set. Obviously you're never going to get it perfectly right, unless you know them, and no fanfiction writer does. (I'm sure those that do wouldn't write fanfiction for fear of death.) But there are at least two things that can be done to get around said problems, which I employ frequently.

What I do:
1) Base the character on an interview or live DVD extras that show them hanging out. Yes, it's a TV personality, and they're probably different when they're off said TV. But it's pretty close, and it's probably as close as you're going to get.
2) Consider their PVs to be movies, and write an AU based on one of them.

I'm currently writing an epic of a story based entirely on the Child Prey PV, complete with my version of personalities for their "characters" in said PV. Kyo's crazy in Child Prey PV; he's an andriod with issues in my fic. Kaoru gives random flying objects the finger in Child Prey PV and glares a lot; he's an orphan who was brought up entirely in the Combat Center (my version of a military school) in the fic. No, it's not like them in real life as far as anyone knows, but there's no mention of the band at all, so who said it had to be?

The biggest problem that I have with fanfiction, ironically, (and this is where the "to an extent" comes into play) is the characterization of the guys in many of the fics. Would you expect to see Shinya running out of a room in tears after Die had teased him? No? So why the hell would you write that? (Oh yeah, 'cause it's a convenient way to get him in bed with someone ... or land him in traction.) Does Kyo fall asleep every five minutes? Not the last time I checked. So how come he's a fraggin' Narcoleptic in fanfiction? ('Cause the author thinks it's cute?) There are just some things that one shouldn't do in fanfiction, unless it's a parody of other fiction or just something to make fun of the guys, the things mentioned and a whole other number of things that I can go on about, should anyone want an (hopefully) amusing rant on. (I've gotten pretty good reactions to said rant, but then, I was giving it in person. I don't know how well it would translate online.)
