x x x x x x x The day was warm, the birds were singing, the flowers were colorful, the prey plentiful, the water cool, and the pup . . . stinkin' hot. Unfortunately Arianna had her mother's thick coat, and even in the shadows she was panting audibly. Young and small, she dared not stray too far from the den yet, even though she was a little curious about her "extended family". Mom was also suffering under the long-suffering glare of summer, so sometimes she was in a bad mood. Like today, she had announced in a gruff growl that she was off to her usual nap and had disappeared back into her den with her children to do the same - whether they wanted to or not.
Arii wasn't a deep sleeper, though, as the collective heat within the den forced her awake. As quietly as she coud, she slipped out and breathed a deep sigh. Maybe they all ought to go early and see the others . . . Or would it be better for Momma to wake up first . . . ? "Oooooh. I don't want to get her mad either way," she whined quietly, not liking the prospect of waking Merrill up early from her usual nap. But then, what if she napped too long? Maybe the others were busy . . .

Mavican had been doing a pretty good job of pretending to be asleep if only to keep her mother happy. She knew how important Merrill's afternoon nap was, especially when she was grumpy like she was today. So when Arii made her way out of the den Mav could only assume that meant nap time was over - even if it was clear that Merrill was still asleep. With a shrug Mavican followed shortly behind Arii as she left the den, tail wagging in that perpetual happiness that seemed to surround the purple spotted pup.
Plopping down beside her sister outside of the dens entrance Mavican looked about happily. "What we doing?" She asked curiously hoping that Arii had a plan or something. Maybe she knew that their mother would be awake soon and that Arii was merely making sure that Merrill had enough space for when she wanted to leave the den. Though she didn't have the overly heavy coat that her sister and mother had Mav's tongue still lolled out of her mouth at the heat of the day.

Camille hadn't even bothered pretending to sleep, though sh was smart enough to stay quiet...mostly, snuffling about in the back of the den and sighing in boredom as he mother slept soundly on the other side. when she noticed her siblings slipping out it was a welcome distraction and she quickly followed, slipping up behind them and pouncing at Arii with a wicked look in her eye.
She rather hoped the little tan pup squealed and jumped and woke up their mother - then they could maybe go down by the river, or into the woods were things were far more interesting then the boring old den and while Merrill might be cranky what was she going to do other then fuss? Camille was sure she could come up with a good excuse to keep from getting into trouble.

And indeed as Camille willed it, poor Arii did squeak in fright as she was pounced upon, wriggling beneath her sister's weight. "Camille!" she whined in a whisper. "Don't do thaaaaaat!" A glance back towards the den told her that Merrill had not wakened from her yelp: or at least, she didn't stir or moan, which was good enough for her. Little heart pounding, she fumbled over her words. "I don't know, Mav . . . I want t-to visit the other wolves right now, but shouldn't we wait for Mom? Maybe she'll get mad if we get too far from the den without her."

His sisters' antics might not have roused Merrill-- yet-- but Roland had actually been enjoying sleep as a way to evade the heat of the day and their chattering and bouncing about had woken him up. He opened one eye and growled softly at them. Girls.
"Go back to sleep or something," he hissed at them. "Or leave if you're doing that. I actually want to sleep. How can you be so active when it's so hot out?" Like Arii, Ro had inherited his pelt primarily from his mother's family and had the unfortunate benefit of a thick pelt (somewhere in the background they had green, but Ro had no intention of bringing the question up with Merrill, and especially not now when she was in such a bad mood from the heat).
He kept his right eye firmly shut, even while he was snapping at his sisters. If he opened it he was done, and he knew it. The moment both eyes were open he had no chance of getting back to his nap and he was sure his sisters-- or at least Camille-- would get him into all sorts of activities that would make him even hotter.

Camille smirked slightly as Ari let out a satisfying squeak before squirming away "You ought to pay more attention" he told her sister haughtily "Then you wouldn't be surprised by things like that" Like it was completely Ari's fault that she had been frightened in the first place.
She might have said more but Roland choose to speak up and Camille rounded on him as though to say something but then seemed to consider for a few moments and turned back to her sisters with a wicked gleam in her eyes. "There you see, Roland say's it's fine to leave and explore a bit" She told the two other girl knowing full well that that was not at all what Roland had meant but choosing to interpret it that way anyways.

Mavican let out a laugh when Camille pounced on Arri. Her sister was a very jumpy pup, and it always made her laugh. Looking out across the dens area towards the trees Mavican's laughter subsided. Oh course the biggest question on her mind right now, was what was so funny. Glancing around she couldn't see anything that was particularly funny, so it must have been one of her siblings that had caused her to laugh. Eyes darted between Camille and Arri, and after a long pause her tail started to wag. "What we gonna do?" She asked them having forgotten she had already asked Arii this question previously.

Roland rolled his eyes and laid his head back down on the ground, closing his eyes in the hope of continuing his nap. Of course he didn't mean they should leave when Mom didn't want them to, but if it got them out of his hair, fine. It only meant Mom would get mad at the three of them instead of him.
But then Arii would cry. And Camille would get away Scott-free most likely, blame it on Mav-- Why was he thinking about this?! All he should be thinking about was rabbits and getting to sleep! Girls...
He growled softly and turned his face away from them, still with his eyes closed. He would go back to sleep. He would. And his sisters' crazy, overwhelming desire to get themselves more hot wouldn't bother him in the slightest while he hung out in the cool den. Arii, at least, was crazy for going out with the pelt she had. Mav he could understand, but Arii...
HE WAS NOT THINKING ABOUT THIS. HE WAS GOING BACK TO SLEEP.

Cam smirked slightly at Roland as he growled and turned away. "Grump" She taunted him while batting a rock at his side lightly. She just couldn't help tormenting him when she knew very well that he wanted to sleep. Sitting down she looked innocently off towards the stream - giving the impression that someone else had thrown the rock a him.
"We are going over there" She finally stated with surety as she noted a log on the shore of the nearby river, one end stretched out into the water and it looked like great fun to play on. "Come on Ari, Mav, I bet we can catch a fish" She enticed them before standing up and trotting in that direction clearly assuming her sisters would follow her.

Mavican perked up as Cam finally made a decision as to where to go. Without a moment of hesitation Mavican was on her paws and began to follow Cam towards the run. "Gonna catch a fish, gonna catch a fish." She said happily as she practically bounced behind Cam, only glancing back for a moment to see if Ari was coming. She came to a stop for just a moment looking at Cam with her tail wagging quickly. "Hey you know what fish do? They swim and swim and swim." Then she began to run around, bouncing this way and that while mumbling to herself a bit. "They just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. Just keep swimming, swimmingswimmingswimming!"
