Is there no originality? Is there nothing fresh?

I'm having a terrible time finding bands that are different, yet still remain in the con-finds of my favorited genres. I have pretty much given up on Folk/Viking metal in favor of certain types of Black Metal and local thrash. Meh, I'm more into my local scene than I am into the big bands now.

Why? Because I haven't found anything worthwhile lately! Portal's album was fantastic. Blackguard is working on a new album. But what else can I say?

Thanks to Digi and Sugarplum, I have found a new love in EBM and Aggrotech, but what does it say when we have to go to outside genres (which I remind you is a great thing. NEVER invest yourself solely in one genre of music) to find something fresh?

It's been a while since I've really looked for more bands, but I haven't noticed this problem. Then again, the metal genres I like most aren't about being new.

I haven't been able to find any new, good, Metal bands either. I look, but nothing really good.

I need more good Metal bands like Hollenthon, Septic Flesh, and Pain. Those are like the only Metal bands I've really been listening to lately.

I've been listening to mostly Reggae, EBM/Aggrotech, American Coldwave/Industrial Rock, and Soundtrack music.

But srs bsns.

I can't really think of a band that has really wow'd me lately. I guess Huntress is pretty much the highest ranking band that I've found in a while.

Not a bad thing, Huntress is great, but.... come on!

Jex Thoth was a nice find, but it has that 1970's vibe, so in a way it's nothing horribly "fresh." Again, it's not a bad thing, but every once in a while it would be really nice to find a band that you just go "Wow! That's interesting!"

But just so you all know the amazingness that is Huntress:

Huntress are good, but they aren't "fresh".

Holland happens (or, at least, happened) to have a large number of superb death metal bands, thank you very much.

On topic, I still listen to metal regularly. Most of it, though, is from bands that are at least a decade old -- and the music generally is, too. Very few old (15+ years) bands that are still making music are still with the program, compared to their heyday.

As for new bands, few catch my eye, but they're certainly out there. I'm constantly discovering new things, whether forgotten works from decades ago or the rare modern band that not only competently displays the skills perfected by their forbears, but actually attempts to build on those. Of course, those are few and far between, but they're out there.

As for metal bands I've recently come across that have piqued my interest, the excellent (and, of course, now defunct) Polish band Sirrah is the first that comes to mind. Also, Lord Vicar, though it's pretty hard to go wrong with Sabbath worship.
