After seeing a few posts I'm thinking something like this is needed. In this thread we, meaning you and I, will explore the basics of role-playing in a forum environment. Some of you are new to this and some of you have some experience. Even the experienced player can use some help when it comes to role-playing. So if you have questions then we can get the answers together.


The one thing I'm seeing is, where do we start in all of this? How do I even begin with the whole RP deal? That's a good question for the beginner and novice RP player. In any RP when it's just getting off the ground it's good to read up on the background story and anything related to a plot that might be going on.

In this RP the plot is there to give people ideas on what they could be focusing on as characters. If you just want to test the waters and play with writing up situations for your character without being too plot focused and just hang out a bit we give you the tavern and the diner to socialize in. How you introduce your character to the setting is completely up to you. Waking up in your room on a ship is one place to begin. If you're starting a new thread with a new adventure maybe a little description about your ship, house, office, or shop is a good way to go.

That's a good question actually. I always use past tense because it just works for me. However I always thought it really just was up to the person.

Yeaaahh...I'm so bad at being present tense but I didn't really know so I just rolled with it.

I think I'll go to third person past tense, much less hassle. sweatdrop

Actually now that i think about it, I do write in third person....*rubs chin in thought*

I find having mulity characters interacting a good and bad thing. Good thing cause you can kind of get more done, such as explaining a problem one of them has or if you need help but can't get it right away.

IT can be a problem if you make your characters new to each other and yet they know everything about the other. That's just odd. How can someone who just met another know things about them that only a close friend would know? I've seen it done way to many times.

I personally find it fine to do. If done right, other players don't even bat an eye. I mean I once had over fourteen different characters and all of them were interaction with each other as well as other players. Fun times.

God modding is someone who pretty much can do everything and tends to control everything around them including other players.

Let's say, You make a character name Meme, Meme is the prettiest girl in the world, can do everything and anything, one of the best fighters and always knows if trouble is about to happen. Already she's kind of...well...to prefect. But then say, I make a character name Bob and Bob takes a knife and tries to stab you. You then have Meme take his knife by using her awesome mind powers and has the knife stab Bob and then she calls down Lightening powers she just gained and strikes him dead.

Well your making it so nothing can happen to your character making them too powerful, like a god as well as controlling someone else's character.
