In God's Word it says,..."Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

I was wondering if you guys can tell me what does FAITH mean to you.

Faith is action upon trust in God. James 2:17 tell us that "faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." God does not give us faith so that we can marvel at how much faith we have. He has specific plans for us and he is trusting us to do his will. Faith for me is the promise from God that I can do the action he has set for me.

well I wasn't sure what faith means to me. Well I know what it means, but I can't think of anything to post so I looked it up on dictiionary.com and here's what I found:

faith
1. Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
2. Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. See Synonyms at belief. See Synonyms at trust.
3. Loyalty to a person or thing; allegiance: keeping faith with one's supporters.
4. often Faith Christianity. The theological virtue defined as secure belief in God and a trusting acceptance of God's will.
5. The body of dogma of a religion: the Muslim faith.
6. A set of principles or beliefs.

I think that faith means trust. You have to have faith in yourself and in God. You have to be able to trust yourself that you can do what God wants you to and you have to trust in God so he can help you. Don't put too much faith in yourself though. smile Put most of it in God. biggrin

But if faith simply meant trust then God would have said trust. Faith implies some sort of action of good will on the part of the faithful. Faith has to do with trust, but the bible is clear that faith is not trust alone. One could say "I trust God" and yet not live a life that showed that but if someone says they have faith and shows they have faith, then they have faith.

To put it simply, for you all if you really had faith which could mean trust, could mean believing that he exists, or having alligence....it doesn't matter cause in the end if you really had any faith even a little it will show by your actions, it doesn't have to be something big like, oh i just converted a thousand heathens in one day, it can be something even mildly irrelavent, oh I was hungry, and I felt GOD's presents, and he told me to look on the ground so I did, and i found a dollar so i went to jack in the box and got some taco's

i feel faith and trust actually go hand in hand, for you can have faith unless you are trusting in that person or object.

Ok now for a different topic, In Matthew 5:13, it says, Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Now my question is what does this verse mean to you or what it means in context?

I'm sorry, but I really have to stop and ask you a question. Is it really about what we think the bible means, or what it actually means. I could think that satan is the all-powerful ruler of the earth, but that wouldn't make it right. The fact is that there is one correct interpretation of each passage of the bible and it doesn't matter what we "think" it means.

But it doesn't matter what "point of view" sinful humans have about scripture. It matters that God is the supreme ruler of all Creation and truth can only come from him and that our opinion is always fallable. The only way to interpret God's word correctly is to use God's word. I don't abstractly assume that passage mean what I want them to mean, or what I think they mean because of my life experience or intelligence, because I know that in the end all I am is a sinful man. I pray for God's guidance in knowledge of what He meant the passage to mean, and use other verses of the Bible to back that up. It doesn't matter what I think. It matters what God knows.

She changed her question a little, go back and reread it.

Other people may have different view points on things, there's nothing entirely wrong with that. It would become wrong if the interpretation was contrary to God's Word.

I didn't presume to know what it means. What I said was I made sure what I believed didn't contradict what God's word said and what he told me through prayer. It's through faith that I know what it actually means. Faith that God will tell me and that I will live it according to his will.
