Devi was in a place she scarcely stepped foot into: the mall. It had occurred to her recently that she needed new clothes. Apparently dirt stained monochrome sweatshirts had gone out of fashion in the 1980s. She wasn't quite sure what shop to go to, there were so many. And so many people, too. It was like a people-zoo, all sorts of people rushing about, all chattering at one to make an echoing noise through the building. She would have asked her mom to come with her, but last time Devi had gone to the mall with her mom she made her look at the kid's section.

She looked at the "Where Are You" map and found a large store called 'Macys.' She could have sworn she heard that name somewhere before, so decided to start there.

Upon arriving inside Macy's, an old man squirted strange smelling liquid from a bottle into her face, stinging her nose and eyes, and some got in her mouth. After overreacting for three minutes, she tried to find her way around the department store and found herself in the shoes section. As she needed a pair of shoes that weren't sneakers, she figured that would be a good place to start.

She browsed for several minutes before finding a pair of boots she liked. They were hot pink, brown, neon green, and bright orange camouflage leather thigh-hight boots with four inch heels.

They were like militant hooker boots at a rave --- and Devi wanted them.

But there was just one problem: Devi never owned a pair of heels before, and those were some tall heels. She approached one of the floor salesmen nervously, not sure if what she was about to ask for was an option. "Excuse me?" she asked softly. The man ignored her entirely. "Hey! Excuse me!." That seemed to get his attention. "Is there anyway you can cut off the heels for these shoes? I want to buy them."

Strolling between every table, each lined with a variety of shoes, Elegancia came upon a brunette girl demanding something ridiculous-- cut the heels off some shoes? She stared at her with a mixture of astonishment and disdain, which was worsened when she saw exactly which shoes the girl was referring to. No, no, no, Elegancia felt really bad for the poor salesman, she really did. Having to deal with a fashion-inept hipster such as her must have been very grating, especially since she probably couldn't afford them.

"Oh, you," Elegancia said with a laugh, "you're so funny!! Now let's go pick some nice shoes out this time!" She guided the girl towards a much more acceptable table of shoes-- nice, modest heels that didn't stack the inches up like the harlot boots she had previously selected. "Oh, my name is Elegancia. I am pretty much a professional shopper. I usually purchase all of my clothes over at Saks Fifth Avenue, but I decided to head over here today." Elegancia waited for the girl to pick a pair of nice shoes. She hoped they wouldn't be awful.

It took a few seconds for Devi to process what had just happened. She wasn't sure if she was being mocked or helped or what. Did that girl work at the store? Devi had heard once that some people have professional shoppers buy their clothes for them, but only really rich people. She didn't know that was a common service at the stores! Although, if they were always around, why didn't she and her mom just use those in the past? "Oh, thank you," she said, after taking way too long to comprehend the situation. "I'm Devi."

She looked at the other shoes Elegancia had pointed out to. She looked at the wall of shoes and pulled out a hot pink or magenta pair of sandals with an eyesore pattern of bright yellow sunflower petals all over. There was also some other pattern on it that appeared to look like floating heads of a crossbreed between a human baby and a gerbil. "These are kind of neat?"
PostPosted: Tue May 25, 2010 6:34 pm

"No, they're not," Elegancia said flatly. "They would be neat if you were blind. Hopefully, blind you aren't."

This was going to be difficult. Devi had failed the first test-- to pick a nice pair of shoes from one of the nicest tables. There were only two pairs of awful shoes, and Devi had picked the worst of them. Elegancia would have to hold her hand through the process of picking a nice pair.

"What is the occasion?" Elegancia couldn't fathom her needing to purchase shoes for a date, since Devi was, well... She just wasn't very elegant. She imagined Devi going out to eat with a boy while wearing old birkenstocks and a nasty plaid button-up.

Devi frowned. She thought they looked kind of neat, but she knew that she was no expert. This girl was making her feel all sorts of uncomfortable in her insecurities. She was ready to burst out in anger, but she redirected her frustration to a clenched fist behind her back and spoke firmly. "I have a date. With a boy. A second date."

Her lips trembled to force a smile and her eye twitched with rage, ready to scream if that girl made fun of her.

"Oh!" Elegancia squeaked.

Oh. She was, honestly, shocked that there was a second date for a girl such as Devi. Elegancia wondered what kind of boy would even go on a first date with her.

"Well. Congratulations! Good for you. That's... That's great." Elegancia began to word-vomit compliments, and stopped herself short when she realized how disgusting she sounded. It was very unbecoming of her.

"We'll just have to make sure you follow up tomboyish and frumpy with fabulous and lovely, won't we?" She danced around several tables, looking for the most extravagant and feminine heels she could find.

And it just so happened that Elegancia found a perfectly pleasant and plush pair of pink pumps that would be just peachy for such a purpose.

"Oh, those are...cute," Devi replied. She meant it, the shoes did look fashionable! She wouldn't really know for sure, but they did look like something that someone who is considered a 'fashionista' might wear. But she wasn't sure about the price range, and most importantly, she had very little idea of how to walk in heeled-shoes. "Uhm, I don't really own shoes with heels. Are they easy to walk in?"

She felt like kind of an idiot. She was kind of an idiot, as far as Elegancia was probably concerned. "Are they expensive? They look pretty expensive."

What a poor, unfortunate little soul Devi seemed to be-- truly, Elegancia felt pity for her. Had she never thought to try and be a real lady? She'd have to stop with the tomboyish look eventually. Elegancia decided that the day would be that day! She scooped up the perfectly pink and plush pumps, smiled at Devi, then traipsed over to the counter.

"Sir, oh, sir," she began, flipping a lock of hair over her shoulder, "I would like to purchase these shoes, if you'd be so inclined to check me out." The brunette hadn't even asked Devi if she'd be interested in them, but she did show a slight sign of interest, and some interest was better than no interest! Or so Elegancia thought, atleast.

"If you're a true lady, it is not hard to walk in heels. In fact, it should be entirely secound-nature to such a... cute girl such as yourself." She wanted to say elegant, but that would have been a lie. And Elegancia didn't lie.

"Thanks," Devi said flatly. She forced a small smile, since she knew that was the courteous thing to do when someone does something so kind. "I really like them. Do you think that these types of shoes would be good for stepping on and cracking skulls in case of a zombie invasion? I usually wear boots for that. Are they easy to run in? Zombies can be fast."

Devi's questions probably meant nothing to anyone, but it was essential to her that she is always prepared for a zombie apocalypse. "I think I might need to learn how to walk in these types of shoes before I run though, huh? Is it hard?"
PostPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2010 2:38 pm

Zombies? Really?

"Ohohoho, Miss Devi, you are the funniest," Elegancia said while scooping the shoe-box up, "really. You just. Are." She waved farewell to the cashier, but said nothing-- she was positively mortified. Elegancia would make it a point of not returning whenever this cashier was working in the future. After all, she didn't want people thinking she was one of those weird girls who believed in zombies and whatnot. One of those girls.

The brunette traipsed a good distance away from the counter and found some seating for the two to rest on. "I want you to try these on," she began with a sigh, "and then I want you to walk up and down the aisle right here." Elegancia pulled the pink pumps out of their dainty little box, and dangled them before Devi. "Oh, and one more thing-- don't talk about such nonsensical things in a store such as this one. It would make one look bad."

"Sorry," she apologized. Apparently not everyone cared about being prepared for a zombie apocalypse as she was. Oh well, that would only ensure her a role as one of the last survivors. She took the pair of shoes, kicked off her own and left them wherever they landed, and put on the new pair. She cautiously stood up in them.

"Hey, this isn't so bad," she said, wobbling a bit until she was able to get her balance. Now it was time to start walking. The first few steps were easy, she just had to focus. But then she forgot to focus on it, and by her seventh step in the shoes, she fell over to the side, crashing to the ground. "Ow."

From the floor she looked up at Elegancia. "Does this happen a lot, or does it get easier?"
PostPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2010 2:54 pm

How pathetic! Elegancia certainly had her work cut out for her with this girl-- she thought zombies were out to get her, and she couldn't walk in pumps. She supposed it was rather normal, but then again, she couldn't recall her first times walking in heels. There was a sufficient amount of pain, but beauty was pain, so she ignored it. Devi needed to do the same if she wanted to be a real lady.

"Well, it should get easier," she said flatly, "if you're not completely inept. Now get up!" She didn't make it a point of getting up and actually offering Devi a hand, as that would have been to easy on her. No, she needed proper training, not a walk through the park. "This time, I want you to walk from where you are and back this way." Elegancia nonchalantly flipped a glossy curl of hair back and over her shoulder, then inspected her nails.

Hopefully this wouldn't take much longer.

Devi quickly learned that getting up off the ground in pumps was harder than getting out of a chair in pumps. Her first try, her right leg lost balance and she toppled over. Her second try she got on both knees and tried picking herself up, but fell over backwards. On her third try, she pushed herself off the ground and did her best to keep her balance until she was standing straight.

She cautiously walked towards Elegancia with little issue, just focusing on balance. However, in her final step she started to topple, and then in effort to re-balance, she started to tip forward. She stretched out her arms as she fell, her hands reaching out and headed straight towards Elegancia's chest.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2010 3:12 pm

She saw it coming. Devi's face, her hands, the clicking pumps being thrown behind her-- was it on purpose? On accident? Was she as mortified as Elegancia was? All these things and more ran through her mind in the brief time that Devi began her descent onto her breasts.

"What are you doing?!" Elegancia tried to slide back, tried to evade her gropes, but it was too late-- Devi's petite and pale hands had found their way onto Elegancia's chest. Her first reaction was to slap Devi-- but she decided against it. So, the brunette looked Devi in the eyes, pushed her hands off, then stood up. "I'm sorry, Devi, but I am not like that." She turned red in the face, not out of embarrassment, but out of anger, and then crossed her arms. Had anyone seen?

"What were you thinking?!"

Devi, of course, was just as mortified as Elegancia was. When she was pushed away, she fell to the ground, still unable to keep her balance. She was completely embarrassed, her face as red as Elegancia's was.

"I swear to god it was an accident, I'm so sorry!" she apologized. "I'm not like that either!"

How the hell was she supposed to make this situation better? "Would it make it better if you felt mine?"

She wished she could take those words back the second she said them. Why the hell did she think that would fix anything?
