Selecting the best Athlete ever would be very difficult indeed. Easier to choose best player from each individual sport. But if I had to narrow the field down to who I think the best athlete of all time is, here is a short list of people I could think of off the top of my head.
Muhammed Ali Babe Ruth Wayne Gretsky Joe Montana Jim Thorpe Michael Jordan Wilt Chamberlan
Thats my short list, if I had to narrow it down even further I would say its a toss up between Ali and Thorpe, but I think every other person on the list are good enough for consideration.

I would say LeBron James b/c simply he is the best physical athlete he is 6'8" amd runs like a 4.4 40yrd dash. He isnt but WILL BE the greastest basketball player in the history of the sport. He also played WR in highschool and made all-county i think. He had a chance to play football or basketball at a D1 collegic level but ,as u all know he chose professional basketball right away. So he could be considered the bezt athlete in all sports

That is only in two sports. This is about In all of sports. Well i don't know if any of you know this, but soccer players are some of the most athletic and skilled people on the planet and arent just exceptionally well in their sport but also in others. For example: Steve Nash played soccer for all of his life until he just decided to play basketball one day, and he's awesome. Also, Allen Iverson was an awesome football player too. He played WR, CB, and QB. LeBron James is a hell of an athlete though.

Muhammed Ali LOST FIVE FIGHTS! HOW CAN HE BE THE GREATEST? (Marciano never lost!!) Sometimes what makes an athlete great, or even considered the best isn't determined by wins and losses. But what you have done in the time you were in the sport that makes you a legend.
Muhammed Ali has established himself as a Legend. Championships, he has them, Olympic gold medals, he's won them, epic fights with some of the greatest boxers who ever lived? Ali has that in Spades, regardless if he lost a few.
The greatest thing I learned while active in sports is this, I would much rather loose a fight/game where I played my absolute best, gave it my all, and left nothing to doubt later, then to win everything you do for less than your best.
No disrespect for Marciano, he is great, an undefeated record is nothing to be ashamed of, but greatness falls short of Legend
