He'd always heard stories about "Insane Uncle Tornado" but he never imagined they were true. This was a wolf to fear, a wolf out for blood and the thought made little Squall's fur prickle with unease. After that story was told, he would glance around the den and huddle up to Momma, knowing she'd protect him.
But she didn't... She couldn't. He'd thought it was Daddy, coming for a visit. They looked alike...just alike. Squall was sorely mistaken, as the crazy loner scooped him up and stole him away. Away from home, away from Momma and Daddy, away from safety.
Squall huddled inside the empty stone den his uncle had taken him to, terrified and alone. He hated adventures; he hated them even more when he wasn't sure what the heck was happening. Shivering slightly, Squall wondered how far he could make it if he made a break for it. But even then, he probably wouldn't make it home. Tornado would eat him, just like in the stories. Tornado had said to stay there, but Squall couldn't sit still. Quaking, he slowly peeked out around the mouth of the den, searching for something...anything. Please, God, let this be a nightmare...

Moranna was tucked as far back in the den as she had been able to manage. It had been such a terrible nightmare to run through the rain, her lungs had labored. She had run in anger, in sadness, and jealousy, a strange mixture of emotions. She had always loved her mother, remembered her though she hadn't seen her since she was a very young pup in a dark den like this new prison of hers. Still her love for her mother, and the faith she would see her again someday had always kept her cheerful. Having a pack like Akiiki Chibale where they cared for their family even the weakest links, it had allowed her to reach adulthood when another as weak and sickly might not.
When her father had come to the den his muzzle clamped around a still bundle, when she had realized those would be her siblings. Her father had always sworn he adored their mother, that he would wait for her forever, but she had bitterly realized even Musketeer couldn't suffer forever. She hated him, hated her mother, hated everyone in that moment. Nothing had ever made her so blindly angry before, and so she had run even knowing that she wouldn't manage to get too far. She crossed the pack borders hoping they would let her cool her heels before she came back, but while she had laid in the wet ground trying to pull in shallow gasps of air, he had come.
She had met him before this violent and insane Tornado, she had managed to escape once, but that wouldn't be the case this time. She tried to run, but her weak heart and lungs took her down long before he would have. Blackness had flooded her vision, created a tunnel and thrown her down into it. When she awoke it was in this den with her captor grinning and welcoming her home. This wasn't anything like home though, and in her heart she was afraid she would never see home again.
A low whine of agony escaped her as she tucked her head down curling up and trying not to remember the first, second, or third nights of terrible fear and loneliness. She could feel the chill of sickness in her, in the way the air was harder to draw in and the way her nose couldn't catch scents. So she didn't sense when Tornado deposited a new prisoner in the den. She didn't try to go near the den entrance anymore, escape was futile even if she were at full strength.

Squall crept around the edge of the cave, his little nose sniffing the air as he paced along the stony floor. What now? What happened next? Did Momma come barreling to save him? Did he wait for Daddy? He lowered his ears and uttered the softest and briefest of whines -- just for a moment, before throwing his head back and yowling pitifully. He carried on like this for many minutes, wishing, praying someone would hear him and carry him back home, to safety.
It was only when he heard a crack in the woods outside around him that he snapped his jaws shut and scrambled to the back of the den. In the darkness, he wasn't sure what was soft and fluffy that his puppy paws carried him on top of, but holy lord it was BREATHING! With a shriek of terror, he scrambled off of the wolf and back against the wall. "Wh-Who are YOU?"

The yowling drew her head up and wretched her out of her own pathetic self pity and miserable memories. It was the sound of one frightened and young, younger then herself. She was about to stand when the noise stopped and she felt something climb ontop of her, paws pressing into her and leaving bruises with ease. "Ouw!" She winced and then gasped softly at the mass scrambled back off of her.
"Wh-who are you?" She echoed back confused, had Tornado found another victim? "I'm...I'm Moranna...are you okay? Did he get you too?" She asked softly her voice filled with fear though she tried to inject some bravery into it for the pups sake.
She knew though, he didn't have to say it, his yowling had already marked him as a victim like her. She wondered if he had family too somewhere who would hopefully miss him the way she hoped her own missed her. She doubted they would find her though, and if they did she feared Tornado would rather see her dead then rescued.

Squall squeaked as she yelped softly, his ears pulling back and his tail tucking. Who was this girl? Why would insane uncle Tornado put him in the same den with her? All kinds of questions swirled around his head, though he struggled to get them out in question form. "Uh... I-I'm Squall." Puffing himself up, he softly added, "Prince of Gomorrah." Hardly princely, though, with his caterwauling and whimpering and sniveling. Rumor would've laughed at him had she been here. He dropped his head. "I don't know why I'm here. Uncle Tornado dumped me here. Is he gonna come back?" His voice was laced with fear.

"Tornado is your uncle!?" She asked startled and confused, the pup had sounded frightened. Yet why would he be afraid of his own uncle, and why would Tornado put him in here as a prisoner? Perhaps Alas had been right to say that Agua Azul was dangerous, a place that bred such animosity that brother could turn against brother. She shuddered at the thought of it and closed her eyes for a moment wishing she were back home in the warmth of the den surrounded by her family.
"He'll be back...he always comes back...and he always knows if your going to try and escape." Sometimes she thought he must simply lay in wait mockingly ready to pounce on her the second her nose so much as poked out of the entrance.
"Prince Squall..." She murmured softly before sighing. "don't be afraid, it wouldn't be very princely. I'm sure Tornado will see the error of his ways and let you go home..." She hoped it would be as such, but in her heart she doubted Tornado's twisted mind would allow any such thing.

"Yeah..." He hung his head, looking crestfallen. "Momma calls him "Insane Uncle Tornado" for a reason, I guess. He's my Daddy's twin brother." As Moranna spoke, all hope left him; he would never be free. He would be trapped here forever, with this strange girl and otherwise alone. He would never see Momma again, or Daddy, or Swell or Mossy... He threw his head back and let loose another cry, but her words cut him off mid-squeal. Prince... He didn't feel so princely now... He sighed softly, then crept a little closer, wishing for comfort in the female's presence. "I hope so..." he whispered sadly.

She curled around him and tried to comfort him with soft nudges, but the truth was she took some comfort from him as well. At least she wasn't totally alone now, at least she had someone sane to keep her sane.
"Don't worry we'll keep each other safe, I won't let him hurt you." She wasn't sure where the promise came from, or how she would keep it. Still it seemed somehow wrong for this healthy looking pup to be in the same sorry situation she was in. If he had been older perhaps he would have thrashed Tornado easily, he wasn't sick or weak like her. Tornado might be crazy but he certainly knew how to target vulnerable victims.
It was terribly hard to believe that Squall was any relation to the insane monster who had kidnapped him. She wondered why it was that she and Squall had been chosen for these vindictive games. Well she knew Tornado was furious with her first escape, no doubt he had been plotting her demise since.

He relaxed in her presence, snuggling up next to her. Who knew how long they'd be together... Who knew how long Tornado would keep them in a den, out of the sun, locked away like prisoners. He shuddered at the thought and gave a soft whine, then buried his face in Moranna's scruff, wiggling under one paw just like he had done with Momma so many times before. It was a small comfort, but a comfort nonetheless. "He can't keep us here together," he mumbled. "Someday I'll be bigger than him, big and strong like Momma, and I'll beat him up, I will." Though he didn't feel like that day would ever come. Closing his eyes, he let himself lapse into a wearied slumber.

"Someday Squall...someday" She nodded softly and rested her head beside him her paw covering him softly. She was almost without weight, frail and pup like herself, her heart beating sluggish in her chest, days numbered. Who knew how many suns and moons would pass before her willpower gave way to weak body and blood.
Still though, she gazed at the sleeping Squall and gave a small smile, he would be big and strong someday, no doubt. Slowly the smile faded as she drifted to sleep the days and nights blurring in her mind. In the morning they would both have a fresh type of hell to face, but at least they could face it together.
