Ok, so I bought myself some goggles last month to use with a TF2 engineer outfit for Motor City Comic Con.

At the Convention itself there was a booth with numerous steampunk items, from a brass sundial watch to clockwork jewelry to one of our icons, goggles.

I admit I was inspired to finally do some of my own.

I asked and the man at the booth said Krylon paint is one of the best options as it binds to plastic well. I am curious if anyone here can confirm.

I am also looking for ideas to do to my own goggles, I even got a nifty little magnifier doodad to add to my own pair.

In any case, pics of what I have and want to work with.



I do already plan to try to add a leather strap and maybe a leather sheath over the ball chain nose bridge connector thingy.

I've only used Metallic Krylon on my plaster Gundam project, so I cannot attest to it's workability with plastic. redface


Though, you might want to try Jacquard textile paints.
They have a wonderful 'Lumiere' line, and I've used their 'brass' and 'old brass' colors on many different surfaces, including plastics. The only thing that I did to my plastic was lightly sand it with a high grade sand paper, and then seal it in a satin gloss, give in a smooth metallic look. (When I sanded, I gained some unwanted texture.)

You can pick it up at most large Jo-Ann stores, and Michael's, I believe.

Edit: I'm actually hoping to get a pair of these myself, and do the same thing with the Jacquard and leather. whee
