It was nearing the end of a blissful day within the Firekin territory, the sky was already painted a deep and beautiful crimson shade that slowly melted into pink and indigo with the coming sunset.
Near one of the caves, laying on a smooth, flat stone that had been used all day for her to sunbathe and relax from a day's hunt. There lay the dark lioness, Mpeka. She had grown with the other adolescent's, along with her brother, even after shortly coming here a few days ago.
A deep throaty purr filled her as she soaked up the last, weak rays of sunlight. Her dazzling golden eye's scanning the skies for the first star to come out while she thought of thing's.
Ever since she'd come here, her brother and Lady Kwana, had been telling her bad thing's about the new King, Kimeti. Now, she hadn't even met him yet, but she was slightly fumed that tradition had been broken. Usualy it was the first born to take the throne, never minding gender and it was supposed to be Kwana. So why was Kimeti chosen?
A small sigh escaped her before she let out a long yawn, revealing her large, yellow tinted dagger like fangs that had slain so many good kills in the past, before gracefully moving up into a seated position to clean one of her white tipped forepaws.

The dieing day urged the young king from his cave where he had gorged on the meal provided for him by the lionesses. It was a welcome change to having to help witht he hunts since he was far from being a great hunter. Several times he could remember fouling up a hunt due to his impatience and lack of ability to keep his bulky form hidden. With the addition of Telek and his sister Mpeka, whom he had yet to meet, the pride was getting back on its feet.
Golden eyes surveyed the scene before him as the shadows of the cave released their dark fingers from his form. The sky, filled with a brillance of colors cause the lion to grin before shaking his mane. Sand and dust flew from the ebony mass before a yawn escaped him.
Movment caught his attention and turning his head he caught sight of a dark hued lioness whom he did not know, but the scars on her back were more than enough to give her away. Stepping across the packed sand, Kimeti moved toward Mpeka and came up on her side. "So you must be Mpeka, Teleka's sister." His voice did not hold any scathing sound nor disgust. Instead it was light and conversational as he lowered his back end to the ground facing the lioness.

The lionesses ear's flicked slightly with the deep voice sounding from behind her, she turned slightly. One bright golden eye showing so she could see who it was before she turned fully, to face the lion.
"Yes sire..." She started of, even if Kwana disliked her brother, Mpeka had no reason of that to not forget her manner's among the royal's. "...and ofcourse, you must be King Kimeti, I've heard many things of you from your sister, Kwana." Her voice held the same clarity and conversational energy his did.
It certainly had been a surprise to hear him speak so mannerly, from what she'd been told of her brother and Lady Kwana, she would've expected to be batted around to ear's by the young King. Her tail gently twitched back and forth in a relaxed manner as she watched him. Waiting for his response.

Kimeti watched the femme for a moment as she addressed him. It hadn't taken long to get use to the sire title but it certainly was still slightly strange to hear. The last lion called sire had been his father and that had been quite a long while ago.
Ears twitched quickly at the sound of his sister's name. "Knowing Kwana I am sure none of what she said was flattering." A flick of his tail rid the appendage of a dung beetle that had scurried across the red hide.
"Your brother spoke highly of you when I first met him."

Mpeka's dark ear's flickered slightly at the mention of her brother speaking highly of her and she let a soft smile grace her feature's. She not often smile around strangers, but hearing this, she'd make an acception. "I'm happy to hear that my brother is still fond of me after all I've put him through..." She said, her ear's flattening back against her skull slightly.
"And yes, apparently your sister isn't that fond of you, although you seem perfectly fine to me, I can't really see the problem." She said, her dazzling gold eye's watching him closely before she turned to take in a small glance of the sunset. It was truly breath taking out here in the desert. She'd watch it with her brother every afternoon. A small sigh past her lips before she turned back to him.

"Kwana is not happy that I took the throne." His eyes moved from the lioness to the rolling dunes of sand that was the desert. "Though she was first born a lion, not a lioness, is usually who takes up the title of heir. When my brother was taken away it was I who was destined to be the next king."
A hot breeze ruffled the king's mane, blowing more sand into the ebony mass of fur around his neck. The desert was not a place that any lion or lioness could keep clean in. The sand buries itself into fur and hair, making it near impossible to totally rid one's self of it.

((sorry twas not on yesterday, was at my nana's))
Her golden eye's watched him closely, ears flickering while he spoke before she gently moved a little bit to give her forepaw's a rest. Now laying on the smooth rock she listened to him once more, only to nod softly as she took everything in. "I see..." She then sighed heavily. "I've been away too long if I'm foolish enough not to even remember that...the desert is cruel on one's mind..."
However as she watched him, she blinked once more at seeing some sand catch in his large, impressive black mane. Yes she had to admit that. He did look impressive, especialy with the colour's on sunset beating against his crimson pelt. She shook herself slightly and watched him once more.

Golden orbs watched as the sun began to sink over the horizon. The beautiful crimsons and shades of violet painted the sky giving the land ethreal glow. Yes, this was a most wonderful time of day. It marked the end of the hot day and blessed cool of the night.
"The desert can do that." He muttered before flopping to the ground and rolling onto his side for better comfort. He stretched his limbs, flexing each digit before relaxing again, turning his head to look at Mpeka. "Despite what my sister may say, I am truly devoted to the pride." He side and shifted his head to peer towards the setting sun once again. "I am just at a loss about what to do. There is so few of us left. It makes one wonder if we will all aurvive to see another generation after us."

Mpeka continued to listen softly to him, ear's flickering softly once again to the tone of his voice and the word's he produced.
As he spoke of a next generation and whether or not the pride was to survive, her brow's furrowed slightly in thought at this before she noted the sunset and smiled softly, watching as the multi coloured sky gave into the lush, velvet indigo colour. Tiny diamond dots filling the sky with their beauty as they twinkled and glittered across the desert, the sand it's self changing from golden sands to a light blue as the moon slowly started to rise with the departure of the sun.
She then smiled more before craning her head back to look toward's him. "Si-...Kimeti." She said softly, using the King's name. "Things change, as do with our Godess, Finar-si, day changes to night, summer to winter, drought to the rainy season, our Godess dosen't just control our lives, she controls every change there is in this world." The red hued lioness then boldly moved to lay next to him. "Since the beggining of our pride, we have changed to adapt to our home for the better and we will continue to do so, there will be another generation and it will be stronger then the last, as so with every generation since the beggining...so do not lose hope yet dear King, you at least have me as a friend now."
Normally she wasn't so wise to things, but, for some reason, she just felt like she should help him in some way. To consort him. Make him feel better. He had just become King, he shouldn't feel stressed straight away. As she waited for his reaction to this as she now lay by his side.

Kimeti glanced to the lioness before turning his attention back to the darkening sky. Her words were very true. Finar-si controlled everything around them to help her pride thrive and grow to be the strongest of all the prides that roam the lands. It was just a matter of time and the pride would be back on its paws and able to do as they please with no fear of another pride trying to come in.
With a node of his head he rose up from his laying position. Sand trickled from his mane until it was quickly dislodged by a quick shake of his neck. "It is nice to know that the whole pride isn't completely against me." He turned his yellow eyes to Mpeka. "It was a pleasure to get to know you." With a slight smile he turned and headed off towards the oasis to take up his usual spot of contemplation. Gazing at the glassy water always helped him collect his thoughts and relax.

The King's smile sparked something in her, making her inturn smile back, she gave a small respective nod to him as he walked off. "And I you, Kimeti."
That was strange, no smile could make her smile in return. Probably just a friendly smile, yeah. The red hued femme shook herself as she rose from her laying position and began to make her way back to her den, her step faltered slightly half way before she turned to look at him. Should she say it? Oh why not, it's just a comment.
She slowly approached him before standing a few feet beside him. "Sorry to be frank Kimeti but..." She took in a small breath. "From what I've heard, you take after your father greatly...and if that's the case...he must've been very handsome..." She said it as though she was stating a fact, but in a friendly way. "Just a small comment...I'll leave you to your thoughts now..." Mpeka then slowly turned before continuing her way back to the cave she'd staked as her own. That had been a nice talk, while it had lasted.
