Friday brings us our first step forward into the world of hip hop here at Goldenrod Radio with an early eighties release - Sucker MCs by Run DMC. Known somewhat better for their single It's Like That, released simultaneously with Sucker MC's, their sound was a revolution in hip hop. Their combination of basic, aggressive, cocky rhymes over spare, minimal, hard-hitting beats paved the way for the maintream modern styles we know today.

 H e l l o !My name is Marigold, and I'm the Goldenrod Radio mascot! I love to dance, especially when the sunshine is bright; you'll often catch me waltzing to the music playing out through the speakers. Music is such a wonderful thing! Sometimes I wander out on my own, though. I love to explore new places! The only problem is that I often lose my sunflowers along the way; if you ever find one of them, you'll bring it back for me, won't you?
Hey, do you know how radio works? There's a lot of science behind it. At the studio, the sound waves of a program go into a microphone; these sound waves create vibrations in the electrical current as they travel through wires to a control room. There, our hard-working technicians control their volume and send them out through the air as radio waves via the antenna on top of our tower. Radio waves travel through space in all directions, just as waves of water spread out when a pebble is dropped into it. This means that our programs can reach any town in Johto or Kanto - isn't that clever?
Anyway, I'd love to stay and chat some more, but this is my favourite song... I hope I'll see you soon!

I love music. As far as my tastes go, I'm not the pickiest person; from chinese vocal songs by people that don't exist to the cheery likes of pop-rock, I'm always on the lookout for something new.
What better way to introduce our favourite songs to each other than our very own radio station?
Here's how it works. Every day or so, a new song will appear on the Now Playing list, along with a little information about it. When the song changes, Marigold will come out into the thread and dance. If you think you've got a good song you'd like everyone to discover, or even if you've got a catchy tune stuck in your head that you want to infect the rest of us with, post a song request here in the thread and it might just appear on the radio!
All the songs that have been played will appear in the Radio Archive; that way, if you're itching for something new to listen to, you're free to scan through all the songs when and how you choose. Put simply, it's an easy way to share great music.
I'll also be holding a few competitions and events; keep your eyes peeled! DJ Sunny
