Is it time?

Yes.

Good. I'm getting tired of waiting.

Silence.

Let's just get this over with.

Fine.

Something was going on inside the Study, something that had been brewing for ages. The Tome flipped open by itself, a feat that takes far more effort that it seemed. The yellowing pages had begun to look less faded, in fact they were cleaner, newer, but still older than the rest of the books within the room.

There was no Author present, but two candidates have been chosen. Their existance were not to be made known to Huni or Syrie just yet.

What does everyone want?

To take a life.

To give a life.

Two wisps of opposing hues emerged from the Tome. And these wisps settled on the writing table.

One wisp was of the darkest night, the sort that was devoid of light but filled with screams. The sort of night that would swallow anyone and anything up. The sort of night that drained you of any hope you might possess.

The other wisp was of the brightest day, the sort that was filled with laughter and smiles. The sort of day that lured people out of their miseries and sadness. The sort of day that heralded great things to come.

The solitary bulb that flickered on and off cast shadows upon the wisps, and these shadows began to mould and shape the wisps until they resembled two small infants. The first to fully solidify was male, the other was female. And they stared at their new surroundings with curious eyes.

The Tome hurled itself off the writing table and onto the floor, where it splayed itself open onto a page where two cloaked figures stood side-by-side. The twins clung to each other, somehow knowing what the Tome intended.

Now, now, don't worry, we won't hurt you...

Just come with us.

Everything's going to be alright.

The cloaked figures leapt off the pages and into the Study. Each one scooped a child into its arms and disappeared into a whirlwind of pages. The male child appeared in the bedroom of Wolfs Heart, while the female was left in the bedroom of Dragain. No one would have seen the cloaked beings arrive. No one would have known they had left.

The only indication as to what the children truly were was the small tome they desperately clung to. A small note fluttered out of the tomes and written on it was:
Find my twin.

Dragain hurried down the stairs of her house still in her nightgown, a young child clinging onto her neck while she supported the child with her right hand. A piece of paper was clutched in her spare hand, half of it hidden in her fist, the other half poking out.

The child had somehow managed to appear in her locked room, and she is not one of her children. She looked at the now crumpled piece of paper with "Find my twin." written on it. Sighing, she wondered what it was trying to say and turned to look at the child in her arms.

"Do you have a twin?" Dragain asked, feeling silly that she was trying to talk to a child. However, the child gave a nod and pointed to the note. Dragain steped off the stairs, and thought for a moment.

"Find your twin..." She said as she slowly gave a nod, "Right then... Off to find him, or her." She wrapped a scarf around her neck and helped the girl put on a coat. She then walked towards the nearby park, thinking it would be best to start from there.

"I'll call you Elana, which means Angel in another language." Dragain smiled as Elana looked at her with curious eyes, "Since I don't think you have a name yet."

((>>; For people who're reading this and thinking "WTF IS SHE DOIIIIIIIING?!" here's a note:
I have permission from both Wolf and Huni to post here as Ayden for now. XD For more details...ask Huni! :3!))

Oh...crap...what was she going to do now? Eight sat on her sofa with a blanket wrapped around her and a mug of hot chocolate in her hands, silently watching a black winged boy sitting before her squeezing the hell out of a plushie she'd given him. Was he trying to strangle it? How cruel...maybe she should do something...it wasn't like she really cared for the one he had in his dangerous clutches anyway. How did she...receive such a child, anyway? His hair a startling white against his pure black skin, light blue eyes and leathery winged? It was a funny story, to be honest.

One minute Eight had been sleeping in perfect, heavenly peace in the arms of her beloved Alex...and then the next minute this baby came out of nowhere! Last she'd checked babies didn't just come out of nowhere, and at least he didn't look anything like her or Alex like Shauna had. Almost immediately the boy knew he wasn't where he belonged, the place just felt wrong, it was uncomfortable to him. It wasn't right! Where was he?! This was not where he was supposed to be! He narrowed his icy blue eyes and glared at Eight, clutching the tome tightly in his arms and scooting across the bed to where the half demon was sitting; this girl wasn't her, she was the entirely wrong person! Grah! Just great! Hopefully this girl could help him find the home he belonged in and his twin. Eight couldn't help but stare at him...you'd do the same if a kid like this came out of nowhere with a tome, what was up with that paper that'd fallen out anyway anyway? Did it explain where he came from? As if he knew what she was thinking, the demon boy thrust the tome into Eight's arms and then grabbed the note to give her that too, glaring fiercly up at her. "...Find my twin...that why you're here, little man? Er...here, let's get you downstairs so I can think..." She murmured, scooping the boy up into her arms (tome and all) and carrying him down to the living room.

And that's how this whole mess started! The boy glared at the plushie he was strangling, pretending it was this girl sitting on the couch. As long as he was here in the wrong place, until he found his twin and his real home he was going to be difficult as all hell. "...Hey, careful with that thing. You'll break it." Eight yawned, shaking her head. "Where do I begin...?" It was then that the tome caught her eye again, staring at it silently in thought. A tome...why did that ring a bell...but where?

"Its really old and really dusty...and there's a huge tome sitting on the table in the middle of the room. The Tome asks you a question, and it won't let you leave until its been answered. Once its answered, something really strange happens; apparently this part is different for anyone who gets a tale; and before you know it...there's a kid on the table."

Hey wait...yeah, Enoh had mentioned a tome being where Vidya came from...was this like it? Eight smiled softly. "Might as well give this stationary store a try...want to go on a little errand to try and find that twin of yours?" Immediately the boy's attention was caught, looking up from the strangled plushie to Eight with his eyes as wide as a deer caught in headlights. An errand? To find his twin? Finally! It was about time this girl got a move on! Nodding, he crawled over to her. "We'll need to get you a coat...you can probably borrow one of Shauna's old coats...and we'll cut through the park to cut time, alright?" He nodded again. Finally! The pair hurried to the front door to grab a coat from the closet next to it, finding one that fit him comfortably, Eight picked up the boy and stepped outside. Wow, it was chilly! Perhaps she should have picked something thicker to wear...oh well, this skirt was the first thing she could find in the dark, and at least she had two shirts on!

Elana looked around the dark nervously, and hugged the person who was carying her. Not out of affection, but out of fear. She had lost her way, then he twin, and she did not want to lose this... Person. At least she is helping with finding her twin, and as Dragain hurried down the path through the park, Elana started to stroke her tome.

"How do your twin look like?" Dragain asked as she gave a shiver. The park may be a beautiful place to be in during the day, but during night time, it just looks creepy. The whole place is empty, with the only sounds being the chriping of some lonely cricket.

However, she managed to shrug her negative feelings away and continued with her questions, "Does your twin look anything like you? A male or a female? How about hair and skin color?"

The child stared at Dragain with a confused expression, and blinked. She has no idea what that woman is blabering about, much less answer her questions... If she could talk at all.

Locating each other was not going to be an easy task, not only because of the darkness of the night, but because something was making sure their paths would not cross.

Perhaps it was a trick of the light, or an ominous feeling crept into their minds, but it was certain that Ayden and Elana would not meet each other here.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 18, 2006 1:56 pm

"...You're kidding me!" Eight whined, staring at the gate into the park with a chain and lock keeping it closed. What? Eight had never seen them move before! She thought they were just decoration to make the park look nice! Giving an irritated sigh at how the night was currently turning out, the half demon looked down at the boy in her arms and frowned. "Sorry, kid. We'll have to take the long way to Barton." Great, as if Gambino and Barton weren't far enough apart! Now they had to take the long way instead of just cutting through the park. Ayden frowned and clutched Eight's shirt tightly in his fist, burying his face into the woman's chest with a whine. No, no! They had to find her! He didn't want to be here! It was so dark, and as much as he wanted to enjoy the dark he just couldn't, nothing was going right tonight! Nothing had gone right since he was brought into existence! Why did things feel as if they were getting worse?

"I guess I should have put my keys next to my bed tonight..." But how was she to know this would be the one night some kid randomly showed up in her room? It's not like Eight kept her car keys near her on a regular basis, and she was too tired right now to search for the keys! Not to mention it'd probably be dangerous for both her and this boy if she started driving half asleep.

They'd made it probably halfway to the bridge that linked Gambino to Barton and already her feet were tired, she hitched Ayden up a little so he was resting more comfortably on her hip. This sort of reminded her of the night Shauna disappeared, sans child and...well, minus the fact that she was almost calm right now; she'd been a nervous wreck before. "So...can you talk at all...? Or are you still too young to do that?" If she could get some information out of the kid this would make her life a whole lot easier, but the boy merely stared up at her with an expression that told her to shut up and keep walking. "Fine, fine...I guess you'll know your twin when you see them."

"So, how did you end up in my place anyway? And how did you lose your twin, only to want to find him or her now?" Dragain kept firing questions at a confused Elana. Mainly due to her current nerves, and also she is too used to talking and chatting.

Signing, she rubbed her half closed eyes. She was feeling so tired, and wished that she was back in her wam bed. Turning to Elana, she asked sleepishly, "Would you mind if we continue the search tomorrow?" A nervous laugh escaped her lips as she saw the look on Elana's face.

Find her twin tomorrow? It'll be too late then! A frown appeared on her face as she shook her head. A small finger pointed to the nearby gate as she urged Dargain to continue with her seach. She has to find her twin by tonight, she has to!

Dragain sighed and nodded, "Have it your way..." She sulked and walked towards the gate slowly. Realising that it's locked, she attempted to climb over it. Holding Elana with her right hand, the young female hurlled herself over the gate and landed softly on the other side.

"Um... Where to now?"

Trials seemed to be set up for each pair, obstacles and problems had been left to block their way. They're subtle in nature, and it wouldn't seem like it had been planned. However, the obstacles are a clue for the guardians of the twins. A clue on what to look for and what their charge's twin is.

((Translation: Dragain, think up an obstacle that might correspond to Elana, like something that will hint at what she looks like or is feeling or needs. And the same goes for Eight n.n The twins' concepts are unknown, I know, but you have some level of freedom with them. I will be leaving the posting to the both of you for a while, and will just jump in from time to time. Eventually you both should arrive at the shop biggrin ))

Oh, how Eight wished the bridge to Barton was so much shorter. Oh, how Eight wished the Stationary story was in Gambino. Oh, how Eight wished this boy would let her put him down. Oh, how Eight wanted to just go to sleep and pretend none of this ever happened. Oh, how--damnit! The half demon whined and looked behind her at the boot that'd fallen off, stepping back and slipping it back on without the use of her hands. "This has got to be the second worst night of my life." She whined, closing her eyes and shaking her head. Ayden rolled his eyes and looked around, staring at everything the two of them passed while Eight carried him across the bridge.

They finally reached the end after Eight lost her shoe another two more times, and that was when he spotted something. What was that white thing floating along the shore and being washed up onto the beach? Ayden stared at it for a few more moments as Eight walked past it, noticing a little black strip across the white thing...oh no...Ayden's eyes widened. Could it be?! No! It couldn't! Ayden let out a loud yell at the sight, kicking his legs and stretching his arms out to the white thing on the beach; if this woman didn't know what he was doing he'd scream in her ear! Eight's headwings perked up in surprise, her tail bristling and her eyes widening. What was this boy's problem?! She looked over into the direction he was looking and pointing, her brow furrowing as she brought him over to the beach. "What is it?" She frowned, putting Ayden down and watching him stumble quickly to whatever the black and white thing was. He was frantic until he actually grabbed the thing, and it sounded like thin plastic...it was...a shopping bag? Ayden stared at the white shopping bag in his arms, the black thing he'd seen was the name of the store it was from. What kind of trickery was this?

Eight frowned and bent down to pet at Ayden's hair, gently taking the bag from the boy. "...So from a distance...did this look like the twin we're supposed to be finding?" She asked quietly, watching Ayden's eyes narrow as he nodded his head. She pet his hair again and tossed the bag, picking Ayden up and resting him comfortably on her hip. "Well then! Let's get to the Stationary store! I doubt it'll be open at this time...but we might as well try, right?" Ayden nodded, burying his face into Eight's shoulder. Eight smiled, hitching him up a little bit and hurrying to Barton.

"I really wish babies could talk..." Dragain muttered as Elana played with her hair with a sad expression, "And I think you can understand me, right?" The young female stopped in her tracks as she raised an eye brow at the child in her arms.

Letting go of her hair, Elana looked up and nodded quickly. If she could talk, she'll tell this woman to shut up and just keep going. She was going deaf with her self chatting, and the night wasn't even half over. A soft breeze picked up, and out of the corner of her eye, Elana saw a shadow move. Quickly, she pointed in the direction of the movement, and urged Dragain to go there.

"Huh?" A questioning remark was made as Dragain looked at Elana. Shruging, she approached the moving shadow, only to find a young begger, his clothes torn and dirty. As the begger looked up, Dragain walked away quickly, and asked, a hint of annoyance in her voice, "That... That isn't your twin right?"

How silly can this woman get? Elana shook her head furiously, and frowned. How could she get the message over? Frowning, she pointed to where they had seen the begger and stared at Dragain, hoping for her to ask questions.

"Um... Does your twin appear that age? No? Then is your twin a begger? Such a fast shake of your head... Then is your twin wearing a tattered piece of clothing? No again? You sure are enthusiastic about this, aren't you? Then is your twin a male?"

A nod from the female child in her arms made Dragain sigh with pure relief, "Well, why didn't you say so earlier? You made me waste a lot of saliva talking." An intensive stare from Elana made Dragain laugh nervously, "Right... You can't talk yet..."

Pointing to her tome, she held it up and offered Dragain a look at it. A smile appeared on Elana's lips as Dragain remembered where she had seen the book. A shop in Barton that had caught her interest days ago while she was out shopping.

"To the book... Uh, stationery shop!"

It was a quiet walk for the most part after Eight and Ayden had crossed the long, long bridge connecting Gambino Island to the rest of Gaia, but only because Ayden was busy brooding and worrying while Eight tried to think. So his twin...was wearing something white? And it had a black stripe across it somewhere...that didn't help; if only he could talk then she could get somewhere! Perhaps if she gave him yes or no questions? All he would have to do was nod his head! It was brilliant! Eight gasped, suddenly holding Ayden briefly at arm's length to look at him and then hug him tightly again, eliciting a dismayed cry from the boy. "That's a perfect idea!" She squealed out as if she'd been speaking aloud this whole time, readjusting Ayden so he was resting in her arms more comfortably. The boy glared at her, what was she up to? A perfect idea? What was a perfect idea?

"To make my life so much easier I'm going to ask you questions and you only have to nod your head yes or no!" She chirped, looking down at Ayden and stepping over a log that was sitting near Bass'ken lake, they were almost there. "So let's see...first off, is your twin a boy too?" She waited for a response, and Ayden was quick to shake his head no. Eight nodded, making a mental note to look for a girl in white. "Does sheeeee...look like you at all?" Ayden nodded. Perfect. "In a lot of ways?" He shook his head. Damn.

They'd finally entered Barton as this point since Eight had quickened her pace, giving Ayden a quick bounce before she asked another question. "Hair the same?" Ayden nodded, and Eight smiled brightly. This was going to much better than she'd thought, her night was taking a turn for the better! "Does she have little black wings too?" Ayden shook his head again and looked around Barton, staring at the lit up fountain and then the buildings where the lights inside were lit...they were like houses, only some of them had signs in front of them. Could his sister be in one of these places? Was that why this wingheaded woman had brought him here? Eight frowned when she saw him shake his head, glad she at least had some idea of what his sister looked like. Twin sister wearing white with white hair... "Does she have wings at all?" He nodded and Eight smiled again. White clothes, hair and wings! Just had to find out what color! "Blue?" He shook his head. "Purple?" It was a no for a second time. "White?" Finally she got a nod! "She sounds like a little angel!" Ayden paused for a moment as if in thought and suddenly nodded, Eight blinked. An angel...? Well that made things really easy!

They'd finally reached the stationary store...but it was so late at night! Would it really be open? Eight frowned a bit and tried the handle; if it opened she'd walk in and look around to see if she could find some help on finding this twin and figuring out why Ayden suddenly appeared in her bed, and if not she'd knock on the door a few times to see if she got an answer. Oh how she hoped she wasn't waking anyone.

Dragain yawned, and rubbed her eyes. She was bathed in pale yellow light coming from some street lamps, and Elana urged her to walk faster. Dragain smiled, "Sorry, but this is the fastest I can go... And we're reaching Barton soon, don't worry."

Finding the silence deafening, Dragain decided to find out more about Elana's mysterious twin.

"Is he your age?" A look that seemed to say 'Duh' flashed at Dragain. "Is he your look-a-like?" The child's head shook, and Dragain took down a mental note. "Then is he your total opposite?" Elana opened her mouth, and a series of babble came out. Fustrated, the child pointed to her hair and looked hopefully at Dragain.

"Erm... You have different hair colors? No? Then that means you both have the same white colored hair?" Elana broke into a smile and nodded, feeling delighted.

"Complete opposite, with the exception of white hair. So he has dark skin color, dark colored clothes that look like yours and has black angellic wings?" A nod for all the points and a shook for the last part made Dragain ponder.

"Black demonic wings?" She guessed, a smile playing on her lips. Elana nodded, and pointed to the entrance of Barton Town. Dragain laughed merrily, and walked in, starting her search for the stationary shop.

The door to the shop quietly opened, as if it had been left unlocked the whole time. Eight would have no trouble entering the establishment at all. However, rather than the kitsune or the red head who owns the shop, Eight and Ayden will find a cloaked figure.

Dragain on the other hand would have a little bit of a difficulty in locating the shop's whereabouts. Each path seemed to veer off into a dead end but eventually, she will find herself at the shop. But there would be no sign of Eight or Ayden.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 30, 2006 5:36 pm

"...Hello...?" Eight called, hitching Ayden up again to comfortable sit on her hip as they walked through the shop. It looked empty for the most part...well that was strange! Was the door accidentally unlocked or was the owner of the shop just in another room right now? Well...while she was here she could at least get a quick look around! She'd never been here before! All these things looked just lovely! The journals on a shelf caught her attention, but not as much as a mysterious cloaked figured in the corner of her eye did. Ayden saw it too, and balled his fists in Eight's shirt, clutching the woman tightly.

"Uh...evening...or morning, I really have no idea what time it is..." Cloaked figures didn't exactly mean good news, and judging by the look on Ayden's face which showed he was actually scared it was definitely not a good sign. This was when a woman's maternal instincts kicked in, turning Ayden so he was held against her front in a protective grip and taking a step back. "Maybe I'll just come back in the morning, this boy's been through a long night...he could use a good night's sleep." Eight glared at the figure and took another step back, looking around to see if there were any other ominous cloaked figures hanging around. Finding none she turned and made to hurry out of the shop, although she somehow doubted she'd make it outside.

"Let's see..." Dragain muttered to herself as she looked to her left, "I think we go left, then straight, then left again down a fork." She frowned and studied the small Barton map in her hands, "Or is that the right of the fork instaed of the left?"

Elana yawned, and clutched the tome even closer to herself. She estimated that they have been standing here for almost a full 5 minutes, and Dragain had yet to figure out where to go. First, they had reached a dead end at an alleyway, then got lost while trying to get out of that alleyway. Giving a dishearted sigh, Elana wondered if she would even get to see her twin again.

"I've got it!" Dragain cheered, causing Elana to look up at the smiling face of the woman, "I had been holding the map upside down! That's why we couldn't find the shop!" Lauging nervously, Dragain set off in the correct direction and the shop slowly came into view.

The door was ajar, and Dragain didn't waste time in opening it. Staring into the darkness, Elana clinged onto Dragain. She have a bad feeling about this place, and her twin was nowhere to be seen.

"Hello?" Dragain asked as she steped inside, closing the door gently behind her.
