Loki had never been to a greenhouse before; and the sight before him told him he would be spending more time in them as life wore on. He had never seen so many beautiful, colorful flowers. He wondered silently if his father would like any of these for his garden; probably not. Matthias seemed to like black roses--and his mother seemed to like grumbling that Matthias wanted flowers that meant death for their wedding.
He glanced around before he spotted a potted plant with an unusual name. A name that made a grin spread across his face. "Tiger lily?" he read. Maybe Dad would like these! They were sure to be the coolest flowers ever, because they had an animal name in theirs! It was fortunate that he didn't see the spider flowers nearby.

Since she came to Gaia, Sophie hadn't been in a greenhouse. It was a thrilling experience, to say the least. She stuck her nose into just about every bloom for a whiff and curiously prodded around.
Except for the cactuses. She'd made the mistake of telling them to be softer when they'd pricked her and now the quills bent like rubber. She made sure to steer clear of that section.
The stitch witch came across a boy looking at the same flowers she'd seen before. "They grow wild, you know." She piped in.

Loki turned to smile at the person who'd spoken. That is, until he realized who it was. "S-sophie?" This was Howl's wife! The wife the older boy was always describing, complimenting, and sometimes even ranting about. "You're Howl's wife," he said, another one of his smiles spreading across his face. "Do you like spiders too?"
After saying all this, his mind registered what she'd said. "They grow wild?" he asked. "I want to grow some in my dad's garden."

Sophie couldn't help, but think that Howl had evidently told everyone about her. "Yes, I am Sophie. Who are you?" She questioned curiously, tucking pushing her starlight hair behind her ear while pondering a correct response. "Their alright, but I prefer them outdoors." What an odd question to ask.
Her boots clipped on the floor with every step until she was next to the flowers. Sophie cupped a blossom in her hand. "Yes, they are, in some places. They should do fairly well in a garden."

It wasn't Howl's fault this time, not really. Loki tended to follow his older cousin like chicks followed their mother. He tended to pester for infomation, too. "I'm Loki," he introduced himself with a smile. "Howl's cousin," he added. "He likes giving me spiders so I can scare my mom with them." Okay, lie. Howl had provided Loki with spiders; the wizard hadn't known what the boy had been planning on doing with them. "He's the greatest!"
Again, after talking about his favorite cousin, he paused and register what she'd said. "I think my dad'll like them. His garden doesn't have nearly enough color. It's all black."

Another cousin? How big was Howl's new family, she wondered? "Oh, does he now?" Sophie frowned, unintentionally putting pressure on the flower stem. That man! Of course he would do something like that. She knew he wouldn't intentionally harm anyone, but prank? Oh ya.
She decided to drop that train of thought for the flora. "All black? Thats not a garden at all! It should have pretty colors and all kinds of plants. Like tulips and lilies." Those were the spring flowers she prized the most. There were plenty that grew in the castle gardens and she'd grown fond of them.

"Yeah! He gives me all sorts of spiders. He's really nice--talks about you all the time though. That's kinda annoying." He paused, and glanced at the price on the lilies. "I have enough to buy them," he mused aloud. "I like daffodils best," he added. "We don't have any in our garden--but they die too quickly anyway. If there were daffodils that lasted the whole year round, I'd fill up our garden with them!"
He quite agreed that gardens should be filled with bright colors and all kinds of pretty things. "You know, he's right," he said in a whisper. "You are pretty."

All the time? That made Sophie smile. At least without a heart he still thought about her and even though she didn't say it outloud all the time, she throught about him as well.
The witch picked up the pot and turned them around to inspect the roots with a laugh. "I bet if you bought these they would, wouldn't you? Even when the toughest snow hit the ground they would stay strong so long as you took care of them every day."
Sophie blinked and looked at him, her head quirked to the side quizzically. "Come again? I didn't hear you right."

Loki looked at the pot in question. A smile crossed his features; magic was in the works. "Howl said you bring things to life when you talk to them!" he said excitedly. "Do you really think they'll last all year?" If they did last, he would have the best garden in Gaia, he was sure of it. "And I'll take care of them more than everyday! I'll do it twice a day!" Maybe he was a bit obsessive when it came to bright colors afterall.
He paused, and gave her a grin. "Nothing. Howl just says you're pretty all the time, so... Well, I agree with him. You're pretty." He wasn't about to tell her that he had wanted to find out if Howl had been lying; after all, the wizard was known for exagerating about his own looks--why not those of his wife?

With her dark eyes shining bright, Sophie puffed up straight and tall. "Of course they will! With my magic, anyway." She was awfully proud with what she could do, exspecially when it turned out like this. "Once is just fine. Don't wanna over do it."
She handed him the pot and moved onto the next set of flowers, looking for just the right ones for her little garden at the castle, all the while hiding her goofy smile. "Thanks, to both of you, but really, I'm too plain to be pretty. Now, how about some of these tulips?

"Do you think you can teach me?" Loki asked, rather enviously. "Howl said he would, but..." Howl tended to be forgetful; meaning he often didn't notice that his cousin was there. "He doesn't notice much, when he's thinking of other things." He took the pot gently, and gave Sophie a smile. "Thank you," he said.
Why was it that everytime he met a pretty girl, they decided they weren't pretty? He rolled his eyes. "You are pretty. Really. I think you think you're plain because you're so pretty that you can't see how pretty you really are."

Now that was a line of reason. Sophie got a knowing look on her face and put one hand on her hip. "Just how long have you known Howl?" It sounded like he was ripping this stuff straight from the handbook! "Anyway, Howl's got his moments and I don't think I can teach you magic. I barely know myself."
Sophie crossed the aisle to an area filled with hanging baskets that dangled just above her head. She reached up and grasped the bottom, tilting it back so she could see the flowers when the whole thing dumped onto her head. "Argh!"

"Since we were babies," Loki said, matter-of-factly. "Well, since he showed up, anyway." That and Howl had seemed fond of escaping his father's home and ending up at Risa's. "But you've obviously got loads of magic," he added. "You don't even need spells to get things to do what you want."
He stared for a moment as the hanging flowers fell onto her, wondering what he should do. On one hand, there was a damsel in distress--on the other, she was bound to become angry and attack the nearest bystander--which happened to be him. "Are you okay, Sophie?"

"Bleh!" Sophie stuck out her tongue and wiped off a big gob of potting soil. Good thing her dress was as plain as it was, or else she would be really upset! "Flibby flabby pot! I should set you on fire for this. Just see that I don't!" Like the child she was, she stuck out her tongue and would have kicked it, had it not been so high up.
"Huh, wah? Oh, I'm fine." She brushed off the dirt and sighed at the oncoming stains. "I think this is a sign that I've been here too long."

"Probably," Loki agreed, though with a slight frown. He didn't like the idea of parting with his friend so soon. "I bet you can talk those stains right off, can't you? I should get home anyway, after I pay for this. Thanks again, Sophie!" he gave the girl a smile. "It was nice meeting you," he added.
He turned to go pay for his daffodils at the register.
