It was late at night on the savannah... Or maybe earliest morning? It was the time when the moon was down and the sun had not yet risen, the darkest of times outside. And so, it was perfect time for the prince of demons to be on the prowl. Phlegyas slunk across the grasslands, more bored than anything else. His thoughts were blank and his roaming without purpose. It was mostly fueled by his desire to get away from the pride, from his siblings, from the memory of his recently-dead father.
At the thought, his purple coat shuddered, but he shrugged it off. His red eyes were dull in the blackness, but his vision was sharp. The sun would begin to rise soon, and hopefully, maybe, so would his spirits.

Perhaps as a representative of the sun, a youthful spirit emerged from the darkness, brilliant orange eyes marked profoundly against her near black fur. The dark lioness had traveled far from what she may call home - it was definitely her birthplace, and a dwelling she entertained. Dreams were making themselves more clear to her as the days progressed, and she anticipated a rising excitement for the future. The question wasn't what, but rather when it would happen. For though visions often granted a break for her sanity in making the events transpire almost soon after their revelation, there was something different about her most recent... Something that inspired her to travel further away from the borders, to gain access to the joys that laid beyond it.
Though it was harder to see at this time of day, it wasn't abnormal for the lioness to be accustomed to it. Different options were available at dawn in enacting her numerous escapades. This one would perhaps be no different, though she was vaguely able to recall the exact details of what happened in her visions... It was no matter, for she found audacity in braving these sorts of adventures. With her lineage, she would be able to take well care of herself, after all.
It didn't take long for her eyes to notice the obvious pale purples across the horizon. From her position, he seemed aimless, like a roaming wanderer - a perfect suspect on which to pull a prank. But she had to get his attention; surprising a stranger at such an hour of the day didn't seem fitting for the situation.
So, with a purposeful stride, she bounded cheerfully towards the figure and called out inquisitively, "Where are you headed, good stranger?"

Phlegyas stopped for a moment, the large lion staring blankly with a proud stance. He sighed with boredom, but his ear flicked back behind him and his head soon followed. The lion's red eyes squinted and he stared hard into the darkness behind him to see a black form making its way towards him, every indication of it being a lioness, and maybe one from his own pride. He kept staring, was it Talutah? They hadn't really last conversed since he'd been an adolescent. And the form was too big to be Tuc (thankfully) But he saw orange eyes glint and the hues and markings became more apparent and he recognized it was someone he did not know.
Just after, she called out to him. Phlegyas turned to face her and took a few steps towards her, still watching curiously. "Nowhere, really. Just out on a midnight stroll." He wondered if he'd crossed over the Aikanaro's lands into another territory, or was he in the rogue lands? The prince took a few more steps towards her and greeted the clearer vision with a smile, "And what about you?"

Her anticipation rose as the figure in front stopped. She felt his eyes latch onto her. A smile, hidden by the darkness, appeared on her face.
The closer she got, the paler his pelt appeared to her - something one wouldn't see in the Mizimu without a death wish. He seemed affable enough to be part of them, too, but she made it a point to know everyone in the Mizimu, even lions who skirted around the border, if she could catch them. It was convenient knowing the possible pawns that wandered through - especially their specific traits and abilities that made them... useful. These were the things that had to be taken into account when one did work like her. It was a job she enjoyed, too, and orders came without stop in her visions.
But perhaps it wasn't as sinister as that. She was, after all, from a "loving" father.
A snicker came out of place, but quick and swiftly contained. The lion, by far larger than the normal but not as large as some she's associated with, was aimless. This was perhaps an opportunity to lead that aimless predicament.
"Nowhere? Oh no... Maybe we should put some purpose to those big, powerful steps..." she started, a sweet expression in place.
"I am Suka, and I have just gone out from my pride's lands. It was time enough for a breather, you know - it could get stuffy sometimes when you've been in a restricted territory for too long. Do you know what I mean?"
It was a question that should yield two answers. It was her way of indirectness that helped things come together for her, and provided answers that sometimes the other wasn't aware of supplying.
Her stride continued until she was very near the other - close enough that if he wished to attack, a couple blows could have landed. But Suka was audacious enough to let that caution dissuade, and it wasn't as if she was without her own strength.

Phlegyas had his own assumptions and thoughts about the lioness and her looks. Her dark colors would have made her perfect for his pride, maybe she was a new member, or a demon looking to join. He could lead her towards the heart of the pride, give her a tour, and she'd be as good as one of his own. Though he wasn't a leader, he'd been prince and runner up to the throne, so he was close enough, right? He was very bitter about that, too. His little vision of self-fulfilling prophecy had cost him the crown, which was quite the insult to injury from his father's murderer and that he hadn't had a vision since his youth.
She proposed purpose to his roaming, and it peaked his interest. He looked down his nose at her with interest. "Oh, such as?" Phlegyas' look was only mildly interested, though in reality he was quite curious, but something about her didn't seem to match the same sweet voice she used.
Ah, and she was from a pride after all, and just for a breather. So she wasn't demonic after all, or at least not interested in banding with them. But he nodded, "Yes, Suka, I can sympathize. I suppose that's why I'm out here too. I'm Phlegyas, by the way." He nodded in the direction of his pride. "I'm from those lands." The male chose to exclude the name for now, and as she drew close, he tensed a little. He wasn't fond of being touched, as that's how it brought about his visions, but he wasn't going to attack. He had no reason to for now.

His answer and expression was calmly created - that Suka was able to determine on her own. That, or she was confident enough in reading others or persuading herself that she really was a character to behold made many instances seem that way.
And with one more step, Suka was right beside him, looking up straight at his face. His form was rigid, and she kept her smile despite his appearance of vague interest. Now wasn't the time to be rude or share troubling truths, after all.
"You're asking me?" she retaliated in a tone filled with disbelief, "Well, if it isn't like a big, strong male to know his place. In the Mizimu, the ruling male takes orders from the female... Phlegyas."
Suka giggled slightly as she spoke his name - it was foreign, but perhaps that suited. It wasn't as if her own name came without its quirk - though it was a quirk she used for her own amusement and pride. And as she looked over to the darkened area encompassing the stranger's origin, vaguely interested by the mysterious undertones of his answer.
"Those lands?" she asked again, straining her neck towards the direction he indicated, "I've never looked in that direction. What kind of lions could come from there, huh... Lions like you, I guess. If everyone in your pride looked as light and colorful as you, they would be destined for premature death in mine."
A feigned sigh escaped, as Suka never felt remorse for sacrifices. It was ultimately their decision, and so there was no need to reconcile their treatment.
"That means we can't go there for sure - someone like you can turn a lot of attentive eyes, but not because of what worth you think you have... But you'd still be worthy, if you already aren't," she continued, offering another pert smile as she finished.

Phlegyas shrugged. "My place is anywhere I want it to be." He didn't speak it with a defensive tone, more of a statement. But her pride was different. There wasn't really anything wrong with it, after all, sometimes prides were ruled by males that really took orders from their female counterparts. He gave her a sideways glanced when she laughed, he had the feeling it had to do with his name, but that was all the response he granted her.
When she asked about his pride lands, he looked in their direction with her, no interest in his eyes there, either. He tried to hold in a sigh, and contained most of it as he answered her as best he could. "I'm one of the lightest non-slaves in my pride, I suppose, most others are black or dark shades of blue, red, and what have you. I got this purple from my mother, a non-member. But the rest of them are demons. Have you heard of the Aikanaro'hini? They'd never be sacrifices for anyone. I wouldn't say they're war-like, but they're not to be taken lightly, many are insane." Such as my father, he mused, but he left that out, and looked at her for a reaction. Even if not by name, the pride was known far and wide, either as myth or legend or horror stories told to cubs as warnings.
So they couldn't go to her pride, huh? He didn't think he had planned on it or had much interest, but it didn't matter to him either way. But if there was any question of how worthy he was... "I think I'd make it." Perhaps he was falling for a lure set out by Suka, but he didn't care. He hated to have his worth questioned, but he didn't know how much he should divulge. Obviously he was physically fit and quite strong- it was plain to see. But what she didn't know was much more important.
"My mother that I mentioned, she was Posca, the Goddess of Decay. My father used to rule the Aikanaro'hini. He has recently passed, and I was one paw-swipe away from succeeding him, and through no fault of my own, I will remain only a prince." It was a vision triggered by the contact of his opponent that left him with his guard down- a vision that his enemy would rule. Perhaps it was a self-fulfilling prophecy, but Phlegyas resented the new king and his mother just as he always had.
And if that didn't mean he was more than you average lion, he didn't know what would impress this stranger.

Suka smiled; what clever answers and attitude this Phlegyas was providing her! Perhaps he would even be on par with her standards. The less responses a lion gave her, the more options it opened up for her... Suka decided that she liked this Phlegyas very much, and perhaps it would be worth sticking around for just a little longer to get to know him. If that failed, she could always just pull one on him and run off with herself. That trick never failed.
"Slaves!" she said cheerfully, as if such a matter was an enjoyable subject, "The Mizimu'Tungika has them too! But they're just prisoners of war, and lions like that. The light-colored lions are killed. We dark lions have to do everything we can to survive from birth, you know?"
She giggled as she jested, finding the line of conversation quite amusing.
"Never heard of the Aikanaro'hini. Insane? Quaint. I wonder if they can compare to the Mizimu'Tungika. And if you think you'd make it... You would."
And Phlegyas would indeed be worthy in her pride - only because he would be a neat sacrifice to the gods they worshipped. She kept that tidbit to herself.
But when Phlegyas continued on, Suka stopped her sneering smirk and blinked at the connections to her own tale. This invisible bond almost touched Suka, making her not want to trick the male anymore, but... she just couldn't help it. However, she was compelled to share, now that he had.
"I'm the Goddess of Mischief's daughter. She, Tukutu, tricked my father, Sakata, the current ruler of the Mizimu'Tungika by pretending to be his mate. If only she kept the charade up... I feel for you, Phlegyas. And maybe this isn't just a coincidence..."
She sauntered up closer to him, brushing her head against his side, saying, "Our positions and past make me feel closer to you, is it the same for you?"

A small smile took place on Phlegyas' face. So she liked the idea of slaves? Well, he had two. One he made his slave by force, the other he duped into it, in a sort of way. The smile was soon replaced with a look of surprise. Never heard of the Aikanaro'hini? Well, it was unheard of to not have heard of them! He kept his demeanor cool, however. At least now she had and perhaps she'd make mention of them when she returned to her pride. The Mizimu'Tungika? That name didn't ring any bells for him either. Oh well.
While he told her of his heritage, his pride swelled a bit. He'd always used his lineage when introducing himself to other pride members, and it always got him the respect he deserved in addition to the amount he'd earned for himself through hard work and drive. But it was also a guilty pleasure for him to see the reactions gained by being born of two lions he hated.
However, what she said when she continued on startled him in a way. Fate was a strange, strange thing. How funny, too, that Iar had tricked his mother by telling the goddess he would be her mate only to use her for strong heirs.
He flinched when she touched his side, but when no sights were brought about, he slowly and cautiously draped his head over her shoulder, resting it there. "It... It is." Phlegyas had never felt such a kinship to another lion, not even one of his siblings. Here they were, two royal heirs, begotten of deceit and goddesses, and it would just so happen that they would meet.
"I would like if you stayed with me a while, if only for the night. I've never had so much in common or so much to talk about with anyone else." It might have sounded soft and it might have sounded sappy, but Phlegyas really was curious and drawn to Suka. The longer they could talk about their commonalities the better.

Ahh, so this was the boy who was the stony, proud, and confident type - not quite gullible enough to completely fall for one of her simpler tricks, but yet not sprightly enough to keep up with the antics that she and her siblings exhibited throughout their lives. Yes... He would be an ideal candidate to follow, if not for a night.
She giggled at his flinch, taking the instinctive sign of repulsion as something to be entertained by, even welcomed, and when he leaned into her, her smile widened as she pushed herself closer inwards to him in a cuddle.
She had him.
"So little time, so little time," she chanted in a breath in a sorrowful tone, "But for you, Phlegyas, I will offer one wonderful night, and I'll be sure to make the most of it with you."
