GOOD! So do I! I aspire to be similiar to Twig, a fairly famous ren fairy(if you haven't heard of her, I'll gladly locate some images of her and post them) So! I'd like a spot where I can discuss things affiliated with dressing to impress the mondane and magically inclined alike. Things like garb, wings, horns, hooves, weapons, shoes, make-up, what-not! that has to do with dressing as original characters, personas, and inner faerie selves. Forgive me if I should be locating cosplay forums for this, but I thought I might get some kind of a response here. Feel free to post questions, replies, comments, but please don't nitpick too much. I know humans are humans and faeries are faeries, but some-times humans dress as faeries and I'm sure there's a little vice versa out there as well. That being said, let's start!

Let's see a first topic....um.....ears! Do you think dressing as a faerie requires pointed ears? Nearly every drawing I ever see has pointed ears, so should it be a given?

I think the ears thing more depends on the person and their views of faeries (I am a Ren Pirate ;D) and the availability of them along with comfort I would assume cover mine with feather clips to look like a sylph ^^

I had a little squee when I saw this topic - I'm actually going to a ren faire this Saturday. <3
About ears - I don't think special ears are absolutely a MUST when dressing in a fayish way, but they can help. I've never found a good, inexpensive pair that I could wear more than once, so I've never worn any, but they can tip the scales if you have 'em. Not that I haven't seen some fantastic costumes sans ears. ^_^

Actually, I have a friend that has spock ears that she attatches with only a pair of earrings. They don't move, she doesn't find it uncomfortable, and they look pretty neat with her hair down. Unfortunatly, I have glasses and I'm almost certain the same would not work for me. =_=;; Which always is another thing I'm worrying about. Glasses. What're your opinions on fairies with glasses?=w=;;

You could make them look more natural, I suppose. Slice open a couple of dandelion stems and wrap them around the ear pieces, and maybe get some temporary paint or easily-removable paint, and make the rest a mottled green? You could probably make the glass look like found-glass without harming the lenses, though I'm not sure how.
I got contacts in high school, but I had that problem before then. I just pretended I wasn't wearing them, but of course that doesn't help at all. X3

I might have to try contacts again. >m<;;; my first try was...icky. What else? Hey who likes what kinds of wings. I made my own out of iridescent cellophane. They're shiny. >w<

I personally think that the idea that fae should have wings it overused I would probably use a translucent mantle to insinuate them though ^^

I personally like how iconic wings are. But other than that, I like seeing how creative people can get. I've seen wings that were wire arches with long trains of translucent fabric hanging on them like waterfalls, I like the wings that are capes or scarves attatched to the wrists. I've seen mylar pom-pom-things for sale online, for more starry or metalic faes. I'd like to see someone play up sleeves as wings-maybe trailing bird or butterfly patterned sleeves, western kinds that cover the hands, since I bet kimono-style's been done. Or having fairy wings on the head. @w@ That'd be neat.
Sorry, ranting.=w=;

Oh! I love Ren Faires!! I haven't been to one in a while though D: Last time I went, I dressed as a Belly Dancer (sort of off topic I know). But there's usually a booth that sells faery wings :3 There's another one that sells really neat looking horns! =]
