I’m going to address all the newbie fishers out there, first.
Here is a common mistake that I, personally, find annoying and makes me less willing to help someone. When first starting out on gaia, it’s hard to get going. You have little gold, a basic rod, and little to no bait. The first thing most people do? They hunt out rich Gaians and beg for donations. To me, this is quite frankly annoying and will make me ignore you immediately. Though many of us want to help others, asking for our gold or demanding an item is just not the way to go. Here’s a simple scenario for you:
Quote:
Fire_Creater21: Hello El_Pul! I’m new to fishing (gaia) and I’m having a hard time getting started. Would you be willing to give me some gold or bait? I would really appreciate it.
El_Pul: I’m sorry, I don’t have gold to spare at the moment.
Fire_Creater21: Please!!! You look so rich! I need gold! I’m a noob!
El_Pul: *ignores*
El_Pul: I’m sorry, I don’t have gold to spare at the moment.
Fire_Creater21: Please!!! You look so rich! I need gold! I’m a noob!
El_Pul: *ignores*
So, from this scenario, I want to point out some things. The first statement is actually a way I would begin to address someone when asking for assistance. However, if the person, like El_Pul, says no, don’t push them for gold. It’s a very easy way to simply be ignored and written off as a lazy scavenger. Simply thank the person and ask if they have any tips on making gold. Speaking of which, since I know it’s hard to get started, here’s a link to a booty grab thread. It’s a good way to make some fast gold.
Booty Grab!
A few other things that are simply annoying to fishers, etc, are:
- ALL CAPS, AlTeRnAtInG CaPs

Also, I know a lot of people love to write in color (/SETCOLOR RED lowercase this to get a color), but too light of a color will effectively blind everyone that is reading the chat in the fishing room.
Quote:
Player1: Hello!
Player2: Hi, how did you do to use colors in the chat?
Player1: Type /SETCOLOR RED, but in lowercase, and you will be able to type in red
Player2: Oh, this is awesome, I like this color!
Player2: AND THIS ONE ROCKS!
Player1: Could you please stop that? Is killing my eyes
Player2: BUT ITS SO COOL!
Player1: *ignores*

Please try to be courteous to others and avoid this. We all would really appreciate it! ^_^
Another thing, for both newbies and pros alike, control your use of curse words! It’s okay to joke around and say some perverted things or curse words from time to time, but know the limits. Lately, I’ve seen fishing rooms filled with irrelevant tangents of cussing and sexual content that would make a hooker blush.
Also, I’ve noticed that newbie fishers get really frustrated when they can’t catch a fish. I just want to say…IT’S OKAY!!! We have all been there and we’ve all hated fishing at one point or another, but that’s no reason to give up. Just keep trying and be patient! ^^
A small recap for the newbies: Don’t beg for gold, type normally (and in complete sentences if possible xD), and be considerate of others in the fishing room and keep language to a moderate level.
Now to address the Pro fishers:
Lately, I’ve noticed a decline in behavior with some of the pro fishers I’ve known for a while. This is rather disheartening. I know many pro fishers look at a newbie fisher and get irritated, especially when they seem to be expressing the difficulties they’re having with fishing, but the thing is, WE’RE USED TO FISHING! They aren’t. So, to the pro fishers, I want to say that we need to have patience and to help and assist the newbies in learning how to fish. Don’t be a jerk and dismiss them and call them a noob without even attempting to help. If you haven’t noticed, fishing has gone downhill a lot in the past year or so, and Gaia isn’t very concerned with it. So instead of dissing the new fishers and hurting the appeal of it, everyone should do their best to help their fellow fishers, especially the new ones.
So, all in all, help one another, be nice to all the fishers, avoid the silly dramas, and just have fun in fishing. It’s really that simple, I promise!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me ^^.
