Rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
Rock 'n' roll ain't gonna die

Setting: 2030. Most major cities around the world have grown to encompass the cities around them. They've grown up and out, creating urban metropolises that take up entire states. Giant areas where most of the Earth's population lives and dwells. Our story takes place in California, most of which is now one big city. San Fransisco, San Diego, and L.A. are pretty much connected.

The Story: After an outbreak of music-related violence, The New World Government has banned music of all types. They have threatened all who oppose this new rule with extreme consequences. Still, groups of music lovers all around the world fight them. Graffiti, posters, hijacked loudspeakers. Whatever it takes, they do it to keep music alive.

Lingo: These are some phrases made up or changed for this RP

Chip: A small (About the size of your thumbnail) memory devise that holds music. Not just any music however, but the master copy of one song each. They are very prized, and most are held by government agencies or other authorities. A few though, are being passed around between Bands, or hoarded by over zealous music lovers. It is possible to copy them onto another chip or any other form of media, but few know how to do so without major quality loss.

Music Box: A form of musical graffiti, it is a simple devise constructed of speakers, a copied music chip or other form of music storage, and some electronics, all put into a small (about 1ft. cube) box that can be attached to a building through various means.

Band: Bands are like the gangs of this new world, and their only agenda is bringing music back to the masses through various means, including, but not limited to; pirate radio, music boxes, and graffiti. Note: Not all bands actually play music.

A.M. Police: A special section of the government, whose sole purpose is to stamp out music forever. If they catch some one playing music, they are authorized to confiscate any and all equipment the person owns or uses to make music. Singers have it the worst though; anyone caught singing has their voice removed through a series of chemical injections which freeze their vocal chords permanently.

User ImageUsername: Frosted Night
Character Name: Arial Rivers

Bio: A few years ago Arial’s mother, a well known A.M. Chief from Washington found out that her husband was singing behind her back. The mother had his voice remove and a few weeks later he jumped off a skyscraper to his doom. Disgusted and holding a grudge against her mother Arial disappeared at the age of 17 and is still on the missing persons list.
Finding her way south she has used her skills at computers to gradually learn about how to apply it to music from various illegal sources. Now being able to duplicate, enhance, and edit chips, Azul was introduced to the head of an organized crime group and now works with them and lives with the boss.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Username: mc2
Character Name: Lisa Kiss
StreetName (alias): Death-kiss
Age: 21
Gender: female
Looks: Lisa Kiss
Bio: Lisa Kiss was the oldest daughter of two singers. Her parents were among the first to lose their voice, though it didn't stop them from speaking out against the AM Police and the governments anti-music policies. By the time Lisa was 17, both of her parents had been taken away leaving Lisa to fend for herself and her younger sister (Melody) who was 14 at the time.
Finding a job to support the two was difficult, but she found sanctuary in the AM police. Joining the force only six months after her parent's disappearance. Lisa believes in the rightness of the law above all other things and is quite bitter at her parents for putting their political views above the safety of their own daughters.
Other: Though Lisa was once under heavy scrutiny for being the daughter of two "rebels" she soon proved herself. She is quick thinking and quite sharp, especially with electronics. One of her special talents is finding music boxes and disabling them, while being able to use the music box to help track those guilty.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Username: mc2
Character Name: Melody Kiss (she uses the name Melony though on job applications and when meeting someone new).
StreetName (alias): Melody
Age: 18
Gender: female
Looks: Melody Kiss
Bio: Unlike Lisa, Melody (or Melony as she goes by often, to decrease suspicion her musical name might bring) believes greatly in the cause of music and does everything in her power to ensure music will prevail. After a full year of living with her sister, Melody got fed up and ran away right before she turned 16. She began living on the streets, joined a band, watched the band be captured and destroyed by the A.M. police's and Lisa's work.
Melody was smart though, and easily navigated herself through the underground world of music, particularly as a smuggler. If you want some sort of illegal music related item, Melody is one of the best people to go to.
To avoid suspicion of her activities, Melody became a secretary for the A.M. police a year ago. After all who would suspect the innocent little sister of the famous investigator- Lisa Kiss- and young efficient secretary to be one of the very people that the AM are hunting for. Even her own sister, Lisa, likes to believe her younger sister turned over a new leaf with her new job as a secretary for the A.M. police, even though Lisa is not ignorant of Melody's past actions involved with the music underground.
Other: Melody is a rather good singer, though she rarely makes use of this talent as she understands the danger of doing so.

User ImageUsername: Mr. Eccentricity
Character Name: Gareth Vasquez
StreetName (alias): Beat
Age: 18
Gender: Male, it seems
Looks: Gareth has light blue eyes that are often covered by long bangs. The rest of his light brown hair is crudely cut short, giving hints of his self-grooming. His clothes are usually dark colored and loose, ideal for a fight. His body has remainders of scars, old and new, and a few bruises from time to time.
Bio: Gareth and his father never did get along. Perhaps it was his father’s love of drink, or maybe it was his mother leaving his father’s drunk a** with a baby. Or maybe Gareth’s light brown hair is just too close to his mother’s shade. Either way, once Gareth learned to fight, his father and he started to leave each other alone, which satisfied Gareth. But when his father discovered that his son’s constant, rhythmic tapping was actually practice for the drums, he kicked his kid out and changed the locks. Now Gareth is out on the streets. There’s no hope for his personality now.
Other: A secret hangs over the drummer…

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Username: Broken Wolfeye.
Character Name: Ryder West.
StreetName (alias): Nightshade.
Age: 19.
Gender: Female.
Looks: Something like this.
Bio: Nightshade was a legend in Europe, one of the core figures of the rebellion, but a huge crackdown on security and increasingly frequent raids forced her to leave the continent in an unfortunately bloody mess. Now she works within the AM force in a desperate lunge at her own freedom. One of their best agents... but that flame for music will never die out. Against the backdrop of night, Ryder West is still fighting for what she believes in.
Other: She has warrior blood in her veins, so much so that even her name, Ryder, means "Mounted Warrior".

Username: Jadeathian
Character Name biggrin eseria Smith
StreetName (Dizzy Star aka DJ. Diz):
Age:19
Gender:F
Looks:http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i176/Jade_Demoness/Random things/Gaia objects/anime_dark_fav42.jpg

Her parents being devout Christians, and having thinking anything outlawed is 'of the devil' Diz ran away when she was 12, in search of her one true passion. Music. She began to go to underground parties, the music was different, but it set her body free. Soon she began to learn how to spin her own music, fighting to make a name for herself she plays at many underground parties, in constant pursue of those who banned the love of her life in the first place. Diz tries to get along with people, and has a mission to bring the love of music back. Full force, and will help any music lover who comes her way!
Other biggrin iz began to D.J when she was 13, learning as most do these days in a underground facility, her passion is techno music, it having so many different sounds and beats. She thrives off the bass.

June 1st, 2030. Santa Monica Beach, Los Angeles, California.

Light from a fire hidden among dunes. Ashes and embers rise on warm currents to join the stars above. They are joined by sounds made rare, those of plucked strings and tapped skins drawn tight across wooden bodies. Shadows dance around flames, to the rhythm of the beat, the rhythm of life. Waves crash nearby by, and winds help to carry the sounds away. The scene plays out like one from centuries ago. There is no reason for the celebration, save for being alive, and being free. If only for these moments, they are free.

When the sun rises, or when pulsing lights and sirens drown out the fireside music, they will vanish, or risk being punished by laws twisted by a corrupt government.
PostPosted: Sun May 16, 2010 7:11 pm

The sound of the acoustic music down below were carried gently in the wind up to where a watcher-Melody Kiss- sat in the sand, and despite the warmth of the sun having left the beach hours ago, the girl continued to wear a black bikini top with jean shorts and bare feet. Beside her was a bag which not only contained her shoes, but her cell phone, and a collection of key chains hanging off the bag hiding at least three different chips.

She glanced up at the starry sky, her blonde hair blowing in the wind, it was a bit sad that these little impromptu performances was one of the few ways most people could get any access to music. At one time people would have had a preference in music, now it seemed that you either liked music or didn't- not that there was a specific genre of music you liked.

Meanwhile, Lisa Kiss was working another late shift in the office. One of the higher superiors was telling her about the latest influx of new chips that not only contained songs listed in the database of songs before the revolution but new songs too. Not only were the rebels making copies of old chips but they were producing new music.

"So, do you think you can trace the creator of our latest confiscation?" Asked her superior as he handed over a small chip. "This is one of the chips we collected in the raid."

Lisa nodded holding the chip up, "I should be able to trace what device and where the device that is responsible for making this is at the very least." She took the chip, her brown eyes narrowed, "It will take me a few days to finish up though. I'll go home and do some work on this case and get some rest before my next shift, okay?" The superior nodded, as Lisa Kiss left his office and grabbed her jacket from her desk sliding it on and lifting the hood up over her green hair. Though Lisa claimed to head home, she really planned to take a circuitous route passing through suspected territory of a new Band being formed near the Santa Monica beach just for her own personal investigation. Justice cannot sleep, she thought smiling to herself.

The fireside music was silenced as headlights were spotted on the beach. Crashing waves and crackling firewood were all that was heard, save for the low rumble of the approaching vehicle's exhaust, and another tone, almost unheard. As the lights neared, the sound grew audible, and smiles reappeared on the fireside faces. The lights belonged to a van, which pulled up to the fire to stop in an open space between dunes.

The light from the fire revealed graffiti covering the side of the van, holding a secret message revealed when the door was pulled back. Four people emerged from the van, silhouetted by the music pouring from the van's stereo. The first two were nearly identical except for their hair, obviously twins. The third was a young woman with an athletic body and purple hair, but otherwise reserved until she was sure sh recognized most of the people around the fire. A smile graced her lips as she crossed the sand to sit near some of her friends. The last person paused before stepping out of the van, holding on to the door sill before stepping down as he scanned the crowd.
"Looks like y'all started the party without us." He observed, smiling as he stepped onto the sand.

"Yah, mon." Said the man holding the guitar. He wore a knitted rasta beret over dreadlocks, which combined with his accent to make it apparent where he was from. The girl with the bongos, who sported waist-length black hair spoke up next. "We said midnight. That meant California time, not Japan."

"Well, someone had to show up last." the brown-haired twin started, the red-head finished the thought with; "How else would we know everyone's here?"
PostPosted: Mon May 17, 2010 11:37 am

Melody returned her gaze to the party when the music stopped, watching as car lights glowed she narrowed her eyes watching carefully. Smiling she saw that the party-goers knew the four and returned back to their music making. Standing up and grabbing her bag, she slid down the dune mixing in easily with the crowd as she scanned the crowd.

Frowning she wondered how far the music was being carried, after all the revelries wasn't a quiet thing. Approaching the twins she heard the brunette reply someone had to show up last and the red-head finishing with the question of whether they knew every one was there or not.

Piping up she said casually, "And there is the practice of showing up fashionably late too." She smiled at the twins and the man with the guitar. "Of course what do I know," she added, pushing her blonde hair out of her blue eyes, glancing around at the group assembled around the fire.

Gareth shuffled his feet across the sand, kicking whenever he felt. The weight of his drumsticks, which were normally tucked away carefully in his boots, were in his hands now. They flew through the air as Gareth played an invisible tune on an invisible set of drums, making sweet, sick, and invisible beats. He was smiling, but it was a weak smile, distant and almost as invisible as his song.

The song was soon finished, and he stopped shuffling for the moment. His face fell as his mind returned to reality, and he remembered everything. His father shouting, calling him a disgrace. Well, that was normal. The punches, the words, they were all familiar, worn things. But the sickening "click" of the lock was new. Never had he been locked out. And when he returned home that night, the lock was fast. He remembered the sensation of his stomach dropping, the growl of his stomach. But he refused to remember the tears dripping down his face.

Now, his few possession were a switchblade in his pocket and the drumsticks he now held, which had been the final shred of suspicion for his father. He smirked, and it soon fell, the bearer too tired to keep up a further charade. He kicked the sand furiously, shouting as he did so. His shouts turned into the lyrics to "Seven Deadly Sins," by Flogging Molly. His arms moved unconsciously, freely, matching the drums. Though his singing was coarse and rough (perfect for a punk song, actually,) his arms flying through the air were true, had they been pounding on actual drums. He continued running and kicking through the song, refusing to think. His mind and body ran in spirals, matching the furious, aggressive churn of the song.

Then the song ended, and he was left with a depression and the sound of waves. But... he heard something. A beat. A... rhythmic beat. It had a pattern. He did not stop running until he saw the people.

By the time he had made it there, he was panting, his hands on his knees to support his upper body. Finally, he stood upright, looking around.

"What's al' dis? Ye... al'... musicians?" he asked, keeping his treasures, his drumsticks, close by his side. He stared at them, too stunned to smile. He wasn't alone.

Melody turned at the sudden presence of a boy with ashy colored hair. She smiled at his two questions. "What does all this look like? It's a party duh..." A few months ago she would have been more suspicious of the boy thinking he might be an undercover agent like her sister was, but now after working as a secretary for the A.M. she had access to police and agent files and read them regularly till she could see them in her sleep.

"And no, not all of us are musicians," Melody added, pulling her blonde hair out of her face into a high pony tail, finally tired of the breeze blowing it in her face constantly. "I'm just a music lover and a smuggler." She held a hand out to him and said brightly, "My name is Melody."

Gareth scowled at the girl, who began by mocking him. Playful or not, he did not tolerate being made fun of. She approached him, and he stepped back away from her out of reflex. The uneven footing of sand causing him to sway a little, physically and emotionally, but he soon regained his balance, his composure, and finally, his scowl.

"Nice ter meet yer," he said coldly, not receiving the girl's hand. She was far too happy for his mood, and even if she had not said the teasing comment to his earlier, her current preppy attitude guaranteed he would not welcome her warmly.

And even if she was not a bright spark, who knows? Perhaps he had no idea how to welcome someone warmly.

"Still, dis is... rapid, he said in awe, letting a deep breath of amazment escape in the pause. 'ow... 'ow ye al' c** together?" he asked, hope shining through his rough voice. A small part of him, deep inside, wanted to be part of this. But this thought was not active in his mind. Not from the boy who wanted to be a part of nothing.
