Hey guys! I'm graduating in a month, and my high school requires that girls wear all white (unless you're wearing a man suit). It kinda pissed me off for a while, until I decided I would just do something neo-Victorian, and everything would be okay. So here's my design: http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh209/Feigning_Ignorance/Random/GradDressDesign.jpgIt will be in 3 pieces - skirt, bustle, and shirt. I'm not a particularly skilled seamstress, so I'll try the skirt and the bustle, but my friend will help me with the shirt. We figured out that I don't have a way to get into my shirt, so we're going to fit a zipper in somewhere. I'm going to make a mini top hat to go along with it, which will have some gears and stuff on it. I don't know whether I can wear it at the ceremony, though. Tell me your opinions/ideas about my design! ps - I can't spell collar. Yeah.

Well, it's going to look awfully lumpy under your graduation gown, but it's a gorgeous pattern. For my graduation, I just went with something old-fashioned and lacy!
Pictures when it's completed?

Iseult Afire Well, it's going to look awfully lumpy under your graduation gown, but it's a gorgeous pattern. Ah, there will be no graduation gown. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise, since if we had them they would be blue and orange and it would look horrible. But at the same time, I preferred the gowns for a long time because at least it wouldn't look like a mass wedding... I will absolutely post pictures!

My school's were blue with white and orange and they looked normal. Although those colors can go horrifically wrong so... Have you seen the threadbanger video about steampunk. They have a tutorial on making Civil war style buttons. Your's is a feminization of that. Also, some shirts make zippers that are under the sleeve, so it won't obstruct the design of the back.

Could you make the whole front of that shirt unbotton up one side and solve the problem that way or is it because of the neck part that you can not get into the top?

See, colors used to be navy blue and orange, which isn't nearly as bad, but it's sorta bright blue and orange now. I did see the Threadbanger video! I have to admit, that's where I got the idea for that part of the design. I was planning on referencing it in order to construct that part.

So, just an update: graduation is in 4 days. I began work on my shirt today with help from my friend. We put a zipper up the left side and are going to put some buttons through the lace so I can get my head through the collar. The bodice is not entirely finished yet. It still needs to be hemmed and the darts sewn. It was my friend's first time working from a pattern, but I think it went reasonably smoothly. We're going to work more on the shirt in 2 days. In the meantime, there are plenty of other things to be sewn...

Very cute! Personally, it reminds me a bit of a Lolita dress. Really pretty.
If I were wearing it I'd probably go without the collar or sleeves, but that's a matter of personal preference.

What gorgeous design! I kind of wish my high school didn't have grad gowns now, because I would totally wear something like this! biggrin
Granted... I still planned to, but still. I would even have worn lolita, and then put the petticoat back on after I could take the gown off xd
But that is a great design. How is it going? (I know you're working on the shirt, but what about the skirt and bustle? Do you have the stockings you had in the design?

ayva-damas But that is a great design. How is it going? (I know you're working on the shirt, but what about the skirt and bustle? Do you have the stockings you had in the design? I am currently working on the skirt. I only have to sew on the waist band and the zipper. The bustle skirt... I dunno. I'll whip something up quickly. I got the stockings in the mail today. They are white and sheer horizontal stripes, just as I hoped and dreamed. I also got some boots a few weeks ago from eBay. They're more cream than white, but hopefully they won't kick me out for that smile I still have so much to do and only one day left!!!
