Either the translation was sloppy, or Cirno just has just passed a level in stupid. "Your surroundings are full of unnatural naturalness!" This was after blasting patchy, and it made me both laugh and "what?" at the same time.

Well, when you consider that alchemy is the art of making one kind of thing, such as wood, into another thing, such as a metal, you can kinda understand that.
It's exactly as the little 9 said, "Unnatural Naturalness".

Although I didn't know patchy knew alchemy... Then again I never looked much up on her. neutral
And, on the subject of alchemy, wouldn't the wood have to have the materials that compose the metal (IE: Changing a high carbon object a lesser amount of iron into a high-carbon iron.), or am I thinking of different alchemy?

Alchemy is her specific brand of magic, she's not called the 7-Day mage for nothing, she uses the 7 Oriental Elements, which represent the 7 days of the week. Well, since Patchy's an Alchemist-type, I would assume that she's got a little bit of Philosopher's Stone, which would enable such a feat. After all, it was said to turn base metals like lead into the highly-valueable precious metal, gold.

(The whole, magically rearranging the atom particles is still silly, but it kinda makes sense ignoring the magical portion.)
Oh yes, I thought about something as silly as that.
Anyway, anyone else ever seen any bizarre phrases in a touhou game?

That there is a reference to the practice of weighting down pickled vegtables with something called a Pickling Stone. Try to wiki it, I don't know too much about it.

Anyway, anyone else ever seen any bizarre phrases in a touhou game? It's magic, we don't need to understand it, we aren't mages like Alice or Patchy. xD Let's just agree that "A Mage Did It". xD It's touhou, let's agree to go by what I said above. xD There's that Pickling remark that the 9 made, as brought our attention by Sten.

That's pretty interesting 3nodding I just thought it was hilarious when I saw it xd How about Youmu's quote to Yuyuko about pickling? "Oh right, about the things I had pickled before.... Strangely, I leave them out for days or years but they don't ever change much. And to think the food at the shrine becomes delicious after one day of pickling.... " (I like pickling sweatdrop ) There are a myriad of other food-based quotes in 12.5...I wonder, did Yuyuko help with the script?

It is odd though. xD Youmu likes pickling stuff huh....? Yet another Touhou Girl I'd get along with! I do enjoy pickled foods, and hanging around Hakugyokoro would mean run-ins with Yuyuko, which would provide me with someone to deabte with on the best way to eat certain foods. Hmmm.....that would maybe mean that Yukari was involved too, seeing as how they're close friends. Which would explain the Nerfing Yukari's gone through lately in the SWR/UNL games. EDIT: 9th Post, woo-hoo! xd

Well, since Patchy's an Alchemist-type, I would assume that she's got a little bit of Philosopher's Stone, which would enable such a feat. I think you're mixing up Hermetic alchemy and Sino-Japanese folklore. While the seven alchemical elements are Fire, Air, Water, Earth, Sulphur, Mercury and Salt (plus the quintaessentia), the Chinese elements are only five: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. There's also a Japanese system involving Fire, Air, Water, Earth and Void; but judging by Patchy's spellcard names, we can deduce she's working under the Chinese paradigm. By the way, since the Chinese elements are 5 and not 7, in Japanese lore the Chinese element Metal divides itself into Gold/Moon (the moon represents the silver metal) and Fire divides itself into Fire/Sun to make up for it. Thus, the 5 Chinese elements for the Japanese week end up being 7: Sun, Moon, Fire, Water, Wood, Gold and Earth.

ANYWAY, she uases a slight variation, having plain metal where gold is supposed to be. That actually works out better, as sun/moon can then be seen as light/dark, separating them from fire and metal, creating variety while eliminating redundancy. The Patchy system wins.

Hahahah, indeed. I really like it when ZUN does research on such specific subjects and includes them into his games. EoSD is awesome because of that: it has Japanese characters with European culture, plus some references to Japanese lore, Nordic mythology, and Eastern Europe creatures. ^-^

Considering her last EoSD Extra spellcard was called Philosopher's Stone, it'd actually be somewhat likely. It would also help explain why Remilia is so rich.
