A cool breeze sailed through the truck's open window, brushing Emilie's dark hair into her face and away again. Her arm rested on the sill and she drummed her fingers against the metal outside as the chipper voice of Professor Oak crackled over the radio. As he began discussing the qualities of mareep she flicked it off, concentrating on the sandy terrain and scanning around for another sign directing her to Ambergris town. The road from the port at Camphoreon was rather straightforward, but it wouldn't do to take a wrong turn and be late on her first day.
Ah, finally! She could see the town. She slowed the borrowed truck and pulled into an empty dirt lot at the edge of some lightly forested land. Smiling to herself, she yanked the keys out of the ignition and swung out. Stretching, she looking around.
Now what? The road seemed empty. She climbed into the truck bed and sat on a crate where she'd have a better view. The open file on Team Rocket in Kodo that she'd sneaked a look at before deserting had been pretty scarce, if there even was more information she'd hadn't had the clearance, and as a result she had no clue what to expect of this new world.

How did he get roped into this again? Somehow he was the one stuck picking up another new trainee. He must have done too good a job the last time. But the pick up point was different. With a window rolled down, he came across a pickup truck, with a... girl. He checked the paper with his directions, Emilie Benoit. Well, at least it matched. On the bright side she looked older then the last kid he brought to HQ. He parked the car, and stepped out, wearing his casual cloths. "Your name Emilie Benoit?" He asked the girl looking up, pulling down his shades to get a better look at her.

"That is correct," she answered, smiling at the grunt. "And you pulled the short straw and got stuck chauffeuring instead of doing something more productive." She rapped her knuckles against the side of one of the crates. She expected he'd have her move them but decided to check anyway. "Your car or mine?"

"Mine." he looked at her crates. That was a lot of stuff, she really planed on moving in it seemed. Little did she know, trainee work was like boot camp. He wasn't inclined to tell her, he didn't want to chase her around. Once you were in, you were in and that was it.
He opened the back seat door and spoke a moment to the charmander sitting back there. "Up front now."
A small squeal of excitement came from the back see and soon a small fire lizard poked it's head out the window. "Char!"
He reached in and pushed the back seat down to make more room.

Emilie walked around to the back of the man's car and peered inside. It would be close, but she would manage. Good thing she'd left the light table behind, she could rig up a replacement for it later. She waved at the little charmander and hoped that the man couldn't tell that she was grinning like a fool. Turning the space required by each box over in her mind, she regained her composure and pointed at two of the taller crates.
"Those first," she said, hopping back into her truck bed. "The flat one will sit on top of them, and the one with the red paint, that's got glass so please be careful with it." The rest were smaller and wouldn't be as much trouble to fit together. As she began shifting the boxes she kicked a small duffel bag out of her way; her clothes really mattered least of all. Suddenly she realized she'd forgotten something.
"What's your name, anyway?"
Somewhere, from the bottom of one of the crates, there came a tiny scratching sound. It wouldn't be quite noticeable to the humans yet.

He grabbed the biggest one, careful of it's weight. "Women, why do they have to have so much stuff?" he rolled his eyes. He was sure that this wasn't all pokemon stuff. He walked over and places it in the car. "I'm Panther."
The charmander struggled to get out the window, wanting to help. She was just a baby, as of yet, but she saw activity and wanted to be part of it. With a final wiggle she hopped from the window and landed walking over to the truck and reaching up for a crate. A small black bandanna with the letter R was tied around her neck.

"Nice to meet you, Panther," she said with a nod, cradling the red box. She decided not to tell him that this was only about half of what she'd initially wanted to keep, the rest would probably rot eternally in that storage locker back in Hoenn. She'd gotten very spoiled, staying in one place for so long. She hoped he didn't think that all this was all clothes or something equally superfluous. At least the transfer of crates was going faster than she'd anticipated.
Out of the corner of her eye Emilie saw the charmander slip to the ground. She barely suppressed the desire to coo at it in some horribly girly fashion as she caught sight of the bandanna and the Pokemon's desire to help.
"What's your name?" she asked, looking at the charmander but implicitly prompting Panther for the reply.

"Her name is Nika." he called from in the car and then walked around, "It's some foreign goddess of victory's name. I thought it suited her, but so far she's nothing but trouble." He sighed a bit and looks down at the charmander, "You were supposed to stay in the car." he scolded.
Time was a waisting and he didn't stay long. The charmander would hop back in when he was done. He walked back to the truck and picked up the next crate, moving faster. The next car could arrive at any moment, even in this deserted area, and he didn't want anyone asking questions.
The charmander fallowed him trying to help still.

"Well she's very cute," Emilie answered, watching the Pokemon trail back and forth after her master. Finally she pushed a last box into the back and hefted the duffel in behind it.
"Do you guys use the same pick up spots? I can move the other car to an alley in town if you don't want it to be discovered here. Otherwise we can go."

"No, too dangerous. But I'll rig it to work." he walked around popped the lid of the car and pulled the radiator hose off. "Now it's not going anywhere, and anyone who sees it will think it's an abandoned car."
He headed back to the company car and held open the door. "In." he said to the charmander and then frowned at exactly how full it was. "Mind if she rides in your lap? I was gonna just leave her in the back, but I don't want her accidentally burning your stuff.
Nika climbed in into the car and onto the diver's seat sitting with her tail on her legs and hands on the wheel. "Char!"

Emilie nodded, approving of Panther's quick modification to the truck. Didn't miss a beat, this one. She headed to the passenger's seat as the grunt asked his charmander to climb inside, and felt her heart jump at the proposed arrangement. Steady, she scolded herself, You're gonna be around Pokemon all the time now. Can't look like a kid in a candy store every time you pass one of them in a hallway.
"Sure, she can sit on my lap. Though she obviously has a alternate idea." Settling into her own seat, Emilie patted her lap. "Come on Nika, if you drive Panther will be stuck riding on the roof."

Nika looked form Emilie, back to Panther and then to her. There was a debate as she looked back at panther and then up.
"Move it, before I sit on you." he started into the seat and Nika moved out of the way and into the proffered lap. Probably safest she decided and tried to see out the front window, standing, her claws unwittingly digging into the human under her.
Looking at Emilie, he smiled. At least this one had a sense of humor, though he wasn't about to ride back on the roof. He pulled himself in and closed the door. "Once your seat belt is on, we roll. Be sure to put her under the dashboard if you see a cop, but I doubt we will. Still, I hate being pulled over."

Emilie grimaced as Nika stood, but let the lizard remain. She'd always heard people complain of meowths or persians unexpectedly extending claws, and found it a bit silly that she'd never considered the situation with other pokemon. She murmured an agreement to Panther's request about getting the charmander out of sight if necessary and pulled on the seat belt. "Ready."
"I thought you saw everything on the way here," she said to Nika. "It's not any more exciting in reverse."
The thing at the bottom of the crate settled once more with the car's movement.

"She sat in the back on the way here. And I think at that age, everything is exciting." he said getting up to speed and heading out to the desert. He kept a window down, and Nika held her tail below the wind sheer.
"Char Char!" she pointed out the passenger window.

Emilie smiled and looked wherever Nika pointed, whether the object of her interest was another car, a lone tree stubbornly clinging to existence on the dry landscape or merely the fluffy white clouds rolling lazily across the sky. She hoped that whatever Pokemon she was first partnered with would hold such unabashed wonder with the world, if only for a little bit.
"Are you mainly a fire type trainer, then, Panther? What jobs do you do for Team Rocket?"
