Angusho glanced around as he made his patrol around the Mteo lands, but today was different. Every day it had been different for a while now, he'd been deliberately going out a little farther from his pride's lands each day, hoping to find a rogue to drive off, something, ANYTHING. He had to prove that he wasn't getting old, and the best way for him to do that was to get in a good fight. Ordinarily he did not seek out violence, not anymore anyway, but he didn't have any other options. He had two full grown litters now, and he wasn't getting any younger.

As much as he hated to admit it though, Angusho was feeling the strain on his muscles and bones with each step. He was getting older, perhaps too old to be a warrior any longer, but his pride would not allow him to step down unless he absolutely had to. He had been one of the best and most dependable Shujaa in his pride since he was in his prime. He wasn't going to let a little pain get to him.

Still, the sun was hot and high in the sky, and he was nowhere near the end of his recently self-extended route. He was getting so hot and tired, eventually the massive lion decided to take a short break, sitting down for a few moments to regain his strength.

Something felt wrong.

Somehow, it seemed like there was something off in the universe. Like two things who never should meet were about to cross paths. Angusho couldn’t place the reason behind it, though he found it made the hair on his back stand on end, giving him kind of a long Mohawk from the base of his mane all the way down to his tail. Or so he imagined, of course. Really he looked like the same uninteresting, dark gray animal as always. Someone who obviously found no real interest in grooming himself. His dark fur was decorated with dried blood and dirt.

Spoils of war, as far as he was concerned. Nothing to wash off.

As he moved along, musing over the strange feeling that had washed over him, the large male noticed another animal not that far from him. An animal with disgusting bright colors on him. Honestly, were only ugly bright animals around these days? Recently all he had met were these colorful creatures whose pelts hurt his eyes. This lion was no different, though the white base was a bit more welcome than normal. Growling lowly, he moved closer, his extended claws digging against the dirt with each step. This was another potential threat.

“Feeling a bit tired, old-timer?” he asked, as if he had any room to talk. He probably wasn’t much younger than this other lion. Hell, he was probably older than this other lion.

Angusho snapped to attention at the sound of an unfamiliar voice. He glared at the black lion, standing up and lumbering toward him. This intruder was large and very strong looking, but Angusho was as well. He was nearly as large as the outsider, though his muscles were not as strong as they looked. Not anymore.

"Who are you calling old?" He laughed roughly, looking the black lion up and down. "You're not so young yourself. Though age clearly has not given you tact." He snorted. He had met cubs more polite than this random intruder, but he didn't care. It just made him even more justified in his retaliation.

"Might want to watch yourself, you're dangerously close to my pride's lands." He growled, "And we do not take kindly to rude interlopers like yourself. Move along, or I will have to make you." There it was. He had made the challenge, and all he had left to do was wait for him to either take his warning, which he saw as unlikely, or to take the first swing. He hoped desperately that they would get into a fight, that he would be able to taunt this lion into attack. But he could not do it himself, no, his nature would not allow it. He had to wait for the intruder to attack him.

After that, it was all self defense.

"So what will it be, fellow old-timer?" He smirked, "Or are you hard of hearing at your age?"

Angusho watched the lion move towards him, assessing his opponent carefully. This male, while getting on in experience, was nothing to take lightly. He was large and seemed to be built for fighting, much like himself. Though it seemed he might not have had a battle in some time, while the black male had been fighting a good deal recently. Which, really, could work to his disadvantage.

Luckily, he didn’t feel too tired. Quite the opposite, in fact. He felt like he could take on four lions at once and still come out on top. If they pissed him off enough before had, of course.

He fought better in a blind rage.

“Tact is a crutch for idiots who don’t know how to speak their minds,” he replied gruffly, rolling his shoulders as though stretching himself out. Prepping. Then, the challenge came, and Angusho couldn’t keep himself from smiling. “You know, pinky, I was really hoping you would say something like that- I’d be more than happy to push through you if I have to. Anyway, it seems you’re old enough to have lived a full live. Perhaps it’s time someone came along to put you out of your misery.”

He charged forward at that, more than happy to throw the first attack. Picking up speed on his surprisingly light paws, he pushed himself off to the side, avoiding a direct frontal attack to throw himself at the male and somewhat of an angle.

His claws were ready, but it was his teeth he seemed more eager to us, the male attempting to bite into the other’s flesh where ever he could get his fangs.

Angusho rolled his eyes. He knew full well how to speak his mind, he just avoided being deliberately offensive. "Just because you aren't smart enough to know how to get your point across without being childish doesn't mean you aren't an idiot." He prodded further, though it apparently wasn't needed as the black lion was already charging at him as he finished speaking.

Angusho braced himself for the impact instead of moving, his stubborn nature preventing him from making any attempt to evade his foe. His opponent hit him full force and Angusho grunted, sliding back a few inches, his claws leaving deep grooves in the earth. The impact wasn't bad, but the teeth were another story.

He let out an ear-shattering roar as he felt his foe's fangs pierce the flesh on his shoulder, rearing up on his hind legs to take a brutal swipe at the intruder. The act of getting on his hind legs, while it gave him more power behind his paw, forced the teeth deeper into his muscle, aggravating the already serious wound. He didn't care, though, not yet. He'd feel the effects soon enough, but for now he was all adrenaline.

His razor sharp claws flew through the air with surprising speed toward the face of the dark lion, eager for blood.

Angusho knew just when to let go, to keep himself from getting attacked so soon. He knew, of course, that he wouldn’t be able to avoid injury forever, but he could at least keep anything really vital from getting hit. Anyway, he wanted more battle scars. Anything to help him feel like he was actually alive again. If he didn’t walk away from the battle bleeding in some way, than it wasn’t worth the fight.

However, he was a skilled, agile creature despite his age, releasing the male’s shoulder just in time to fall back and away from the other’s attack to his face. He just missed the claws, his face probably less than an inch from the sharp weapons.

So he was a little out of practice.

Wasting no time, he moved into another attack, moving forward and slash at the male’s chest while he was settling down after rearing up as he had. Anything he could take as a moment of weakness, he was happy to exploit to the best of his abilities. This was a fight, and wasn’t there a saying about everything being fair in a fight? Or was that war? Eh, that was close enough for his tastes. He slashed a paw at the male’s chest, green eyes locked on target.

In battle mode, nothing was going to distract him from his victory.

Angusho managed to back up slightly, still on his hind legs as he saw the dark male swipe at him. He was clumsy though, lions not being meant to stand on their hind legs for more than a few seconds, and the claws made contact. It stung, but it wasn't too bad.

The real pain happened when he crashed back down to earth on his front legs, the injury to his shoulder causing his leg to crumple under his weight for a moment. He recovered quickly though, now in a blind rage. This wasn't about his selfish pride anymore, this fight was about survival. If he didn't kill this other male, he'd get killed himself.

In a desperate attempt to drive the intruder out before his adrenaline rush faded, he lunged at him full force, baring his teeth and aiming for anything he could reach. He had to finish this fight quickly, or he'd start to really be affected by his wounds and would surely lose.

Surely die.

He couldn't let that happen. Angusho put all his might behind this attack, knowing that he could not kill this other male, but may find himself able to injure him enough to survive. Maybe.

Angusho let the other come at him, bracing himself and letting out a low snarl. Being more of an offensive fighter, he was never one to really block when someone was coming at him. Not when he was in such a rage. It felt like he would be able to hold back any attack at that point, just to make sure he had the room he needed to launch his counter-attack. The best way to get his attack in was to make his move when they were too close to wiggle free.

Such a brilliant plan.

So he only pulled up when the male got close, letting his front leg get the attack while the other paw moved in for a strike of its own. He slashed at whatever he could reach, his long, sharp fangs going for any kind of flesh he could latch onto. He wasn’t even thinking about what kind of damage he could do or what his killing attack would be. All he wanted to do was make the guy hurt.

Maybe if he calmed down a bit later he would focus on just how he was going to kill the other male. For now, it was all blind attacking. The rush was amazing- it made him feel completely young again.

Perfect. Fighting was just perfect.
