Name: Kazuo Saito

Nickname: Kaz is the official one, while there's also ten tons of other nicknames due to Akio constantly butchering his name. He is not amused. (AKIO LOVES YOU, KIZZY <333)

Age: 18, though doesn't look it

Birthday: May 1st

Sign: Taurus

Gemstone: Emerald

Blood Type: B-

Fav. Food: Anything involving a good amount of cooked vegetables and rice. He's also quite fond of udon noodles.

Hated Food: Anything involving an overabundance of meat. In small amounts it's fine, but give him say...a giant steak and he's going to feel quite sick.

School: Meadowview High School

Hobbies:

Caring for Sho - Sho is a small, extremely colorful finch that Kazuo's host family gave him as a welcoming gift. Sho is also incredibly noisy and a total pain to catch if someone accidently lets him out of the cage. Kazuo is working on getting Sho to be better behaved, but so far all they've got down pretty well is the use of Kaz's hair as a nest anid his math homework as nesting material. While small, this is at least something and Kazuo swears they're on the path to a well trained finch. His host family is still skeptical.

Drawing from Nature - Kazuo loves spending time outside, and usually brings along a small sketchbook to have some sort of record of what he saw. Some enjoy people watching, and while Kaz will occasionally partake in this he prefers to observe wildlife. His sketchbook is filled with drawings of birds, trees, and the absolutely perfect spiderweb he found just the other day. It should also be noted he's not really a recluse, and if one wanted to join him on his trips 'into nature' he'd be fine with that. Even if it's a certain seal who seemingly never shuts up.

Monster Movies - Call it what you will, but Kazuo enjoys any and all movies featuring Kaiju. He's watched movies in several languages, and while he doesn't always really understand what's going on that's okay, it has giant rampaging monsters. That's enough for him. King Ghidorah of Godzilla fame is one of his favorites, though he must admit to a special love of The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. So it's not a traditional monster movie...so what?

Virtues:

Patient -- Patience is passion tamed. Kaz has his ideas and goals, but knows that to get them a good deal of patience will be required. There's no need to rush, as working slowly towards a goal will make the victory all the more sweet. Why finish something haphazardly in a day when if you just wait you can make it perfect?

Polite -- Kaz sees no reason to be rude, and really doesn't understand the silly habit of calling someone 'hey dude' or 'you, over there!'. People have names and titles for a reason, and he -will- be using them thank you very much. He is also the one stooping to help someone who has tripped back to the feet, rather than standing by and laughing. Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

Observant -- Careful observation can teach you many things. Where others might rush right on in, Kazuo is quite content to sit back and watch to get a better understanding of just what is going on. Why yes, he did notice that the person who just stumbled has their laces untied. No really, he did try to warn them, they just didn't notice. Sigh. He'll go help them now.

Flaws:

Soft Spoken -- Kazuo really has no concept of an 'outside voice'. He speaks loud enough to be heard, but only by those nearby and actually paying attention. This often leads to him being overlooked, or simply unable to get a word in if others around are having a conversation. Kaz swears this is okay, really guys it is. He'll just sit by and pipe in when able (which isn't often with his usual company), and quietly say "Told you so" when something doesn't go right. Really, he did, you just didn't hear him.

Kaz the Spaz -- Kaz has a good grip on reality. Really, he does. But there are just times where he is out of his element of control* and it's visible. Kazuo likes having at least a vague idea of what's going on, some sort of plan to how things will be, or the simple thought that there are friends around he can depend on. When thrust into a situation without these things, Kaz grows increasingly nervous and fidgety. Akio has so kindly added "Spaz' to his long list of nicknames due to this. Becoming part of the exchange program was a big deal to him, and once arriving in Destiny City it took a few days for him to calm down and settle in.
*Kaz doesn't really feel a need to be in -total- control of everything all the time, but does at least like to know where things are going. Coming to Destiny City was a hell of a shock to him as it was something totally new. But say, if he was invited shopping he'd only need to know that they were -going- and who he was going with. Not necessarily exactly which stores and how long they'd be gone.

Doormat - Let's face it, quiet and polite kids do not rule the school. In fact, quiet and polite kids are usually the ones constantly getting bullied and tortured. While being an exchange student might save him from at least a bit of torment, his personality still lends itself to making him a target. He's the kid that has his homework outright -stolen- and rather than pursue the thief simply does it over. He's the kid getting dragged along on crazy schemes because arguing against them is just wasting time. When he gets walked all over, he will move past his frustration and be polite over it. In fact, he won't even hate you! He just sometimes wishes you wouldn't do these things.

Point of No Return - Everyone has a breaking point, even people like Kaz. When he does finally reach that point (and it does take a damn lot for him to reach it), he simply snaps, patience and politeness flying right out the window. This is when you end up with a tiny, flustered as hell Kaz screaming in your face (or as close as he can reach, ya know). The pented up frustrations are all released in one big violent burst and it's only after he informs you of every thing you did wrong, or just how every little thing ever seemed to somehow mess up a plan of his that he feels better. If...for a moment. Then Kaz starts to feel extremely guilty. So guilty that he usually goes back to his room to cry and have a one-way conversation with Sho wondering why things have to be this way. Sho is usually no help (too busy shrieking, of course), but it at least helps the guilt a little.

Physical Description

Eyes: Almond shape, dark in color

Hair: Short with a bit of a messy style

Face: Boyish, like he never really grew out of the young kid stage.

Clothes: When out of uniform, Kaz is found in things such as nice comfy pants and a slightly oversized jacket or light hoodie. No, he doesn't care if it's the middle of summer -or- if he looks funny. He's comfortable, that's all that matters, thank you.

Stature: Small. Around 4'11. He doesn't really mind.

Quail's Eye:

As Quail's Eye, Kazuo will have minor powers dealing with wind. Nothing along the lines of a senshi attack, just little things here and there. Per meta-letter, I will discuss things with the staff over what would or wouldn't be acceptable.

Okay, I've got this partially filled out but I'm having a major brain block ;_;() Profiles are just not my strong point. If anyone has any comments PLEASE feel free to post them? I know I need at -least- another flaw, and that I am working on.

For an amusing mental image, picture Kazuo giving a long suffering sigh as he's stuck in between Itsuki and Akio's quarreling.

This particular post will have some extra info once I confirm some things :3

Akio believes "Doormat" could be a possible flaw, if Kazzball is going to let himself get walked over all the time biggrin

Hey, you got some good stuff so far, but I'm concerned you might risk making the same mistake I did with Simon in making out all his flaws to be sorta victimizing on his part. This can result in making a very passive, primarily reactive character who can be really difficult to move an RP along.

So, does he have any tendencies that other people might find aggravating, that don't require someone else's actions to "activate?" Is he ever whiny or passive-aggressive, etc, etc? Basically I'm looking for stuff that can allow him the potential to be the bad guy in some situations instead of just the victim. <3

I actually kept Simon in mind when writing Kaz's profile, both because I didn't want to end up with Simon 2.0 and also so he didn't hit the same dead ends as Simon did in terms of moving an RP along. I always thought one of Simon's big problems (and this is you know, in a loving way because I adore Simon to death) is that he comes off as incredibly shy/nervous of most situations and -that's- what made it hard for him to move along RPs? That's why Kaz is neither shy nor nervous (except on occasion, as noted in Spaz).

I'm trying to avoid passive aggressive (at least to the point of it being a real -flaw-, everyone can be a bit PA at times) because to me being PA a lot goes against being polite, and I don't want to nix out his main virtues while trying to add something in to make him a bad guy.

Ende has suggested to me that he be 'underfoot', in that he has a real tendency to huddle close to people (stand right next to, directly behind, etc) and since he's so quiet it'd be hard to notice? IDK, I think that'd be pretty obnoxious, and it also fits in with his current personality (plus it adds just one more bird like trait to him later on when he's actually Quail's Eye). Is this something more along the lines of what you're looking for, or still not bad guy enough?

On the polite thing, that depends on how you interpret politeness! Some really nasty individuals are polite for various reasons, e.g. to be holier-than-thou or as a strategy to earn the respect of others -- or even to be passive-aggressive; just because you're minding all your P's and Q's when talking doesn't mean you're saying nice things when doing it.

If you're playing on Kazuo being GENUINELY polite, then maybe one thing he has going for him could be that there's some things he will refuse to do because they don't fit in with his morals? His Patient virtue also suggests he might move a little too slowly and meticulously sometimes, and that would get a little aggravating for some people.

IMHO the end-notes on Observant and Softspoken suggest there's SOMETHING mean about him, otherwise he wouldn't be all hum-ho-sighing about people screwing up when he 'tried to warn them' about something or other. I feel like you're trying to avoid labelling him as mean when he's Supposed to Be Polite, but his sighing and told-you-so-ing make him out to be a bit of a passive grouch, like, he's sort of melodramatically blaming other people for his own inaction.

BELATED EDIT: Sorry if the above is abrasive or confusing, it was sort of written in a rush of leaving-in-ten-minutes and my wording's probably a bit crappy. XD;; Um, what I was trying to get at is that with some stuff you've written out, it looks like Kazuo makes himself out to be some sort of straight man who's all siiiigh, am I the only right and sane person in the universe, siiigh.

So, I'm a bit confused that you're saying he's not passive-aggressive when you have some passive-aggressive tendencies going on in his writeup -- I'd recommend rewording or fixing up Soft-Spoken partially because that's going to be a bit difficult to play out in an RP, and I really think you could add more to his character with the I-told-you-soing than you could with him being overlooked.

On the Doormat flaw, can I get some more on why he lets people walk all over him and less on the bad things that happen to him? Is he afraid of conflict or confrontation, and acts in such a way to try and avoid it? Does he think his politeness will be reciprocated or somehow rub off on other people he's around?

He seems absolutely adorable! I just had one thing to ask. When you say that he's patient and will take a little longer to finish and make things perfect, does it ever cause him problems? Such as time management? Or does he start things as soon as it's assigned and get things done like that, or does he end up staying up all night to get something finished because he doesn't want to rush it? Does he have trouble getting things finished?Congratulations on your win! He really is precious!

Like Mouse said, you need a flaw that makes Kazuo bad or annoying. I had the same problem writing Odile out the first time, but Rose insisted (possibly due to experience learned from Mouse and Simon), so we have to insist here as well.

If you don't want to him to be passive-aggressive, have you considered flaws like overly-clingy, overly-affectionate (and/or no sense of personal space), know-it-all (even if it's softly), or maybe link in to his "spaz" trait to say he can have meltdowns if things get too stressful or exciting for him? Idk, maybe none of those suit him in your mind, but there are ways to give him a truly annoying/bad trait without sticking a random a*****e-seeming trait in there.

I would also like some more detail in the virtues? Your flaw write-ups are two to three times the length, so the virtues seem very rushed-over in comparison.

With virtues and flaws like Patient,Observant, Soft Spoken and even Doormat, it sounds like Kazuo is Enneagram Personality Type Nine.

Since it has been suggested that you choose stronger flaws, I suggest skimming the Type Nine or another personality type that you feel fits Kazuo for ideas.

Some potential flaws of the Type Nine are:
-Slothful
-Disengaged (Usually emotionally, sometimes mentally; this sometimes manifests as "zoning out")
-Poor at maintaining relationships
-Passive-Aggressive
-Stubborn
-Forgetful/Neglectful
-Repressed (all emotions, but mostly rage)

If you would like me to go into more detail about any of these, let me know.

My personal opinion is that Type Nines are the most difficult to roleplay, since they tend to act or even view themselves as a non-participant in their own lives.

New flaw is definitely an improvement!
