ive decided that fender are long gone. since their fall of the 80s, fender havent been synonamous with rock the way they used to be. their guitars are not even of great quality.
squires are almost as bad as their real fender counterparts. maybe im just crazy, but fender are gone

Fender is hardly dead. Fender didn't fall in the 80's but rather in the 70's when Leo sold the company to CBS. But when FMIC bought the company back in 1985 I believe, The quality cam back. Obviously the guitars arn't going to be to the standard that original, handmade instruments were, and that is only because Fedner need to make alot of instruments. The main reason, atleast in my opinion why you think Fender is synonamous with rock is because rock is changing. Now rock stands for heavier things than it used to. I don't see why you can say that Fender are low quality, because Fender have a range lange of products at different price- and quality points. You may of played one of their guitars, and if it was a Mexican or a Squier, I can understand that those models are the greatest of quality, even though I would also think you were being picky if you said that the mexican ones are bad quality, but if you find a mexican bad quality, you can't go around saying that the whole company makes crappy products, because that just isn't true, and is called generalisation, and a very unfair one at that, because the mexican series is quite a small part of the Fender range.....sorry, about that. I just really like Fender and I found that personally insulting. sweatdrop

Fender is not dead.
You play guitars to suit the music you play. To me, I don't particuarly like Fender, but that's because Fender doesn't cater to my kind of playing.
Fender may not be known as well for rock as they used to, being the playing changed. It's mostly Gibson [Les Paul] guitars that are well known for hard rock.
At least I can respect that many, many people still enjoy using their Fender instruments, and that Fenders are still good guitars, it just depends what music you're playing.
And they are an excellent starting point for a new guitarist.

Fender is one of the most overrated brands of guitars out and one of the top most sellin brands on the planet. Fenders are nothin that spexial cept the flat headed telecaster and 1962 telecaster. I triede to many fenders includin that gay red and white one (all over the head and neck its pained head and white) and honestly those were the only to I liked (Flat headed tele and 1962 tele). I think that for some music is sounds like crap (it sounds crap when tryin to play most metal).

I also agree it's kinda over-rated, but they are not bad for a beginner, or someone who's going to play that clean kinda tone. They're good for the right people, no mistake there. But they sure aren't for everyone or every genre.

I play classic rock, and I like fender, but I'm not too fond of ESP. It all depends on the music you play.

I dont mind fenders, Ive played them before, ( at least a mexican strat) and that model is pretty good, but even though Im not a metal player ( I like it but its not my main taste) I prefer humbucking sounds and the look of a Les Paul...(wich I am gonna get) , I wish I could afford both really...

I agree with Tanner and Black Metal (do I detect some German in that name? wink ) that they are good for the right kind of people. And as far as the squires or any other lesser brand, the guitarist makes up the instrument not the guitar itself.

Agreed. Fenders are good for what they do. If you're a metal player, then of course you'll lack that sound. Still, for older rock and blues and such, you can't beat Fenders. 3nodding Use the right guitar for the right music.

If I were to play blues or light rock and I needed that nice OD, I would probably pair up a Strat through an old fender twin and crank it. It's the best blues sound you'll ever get, and for a clean tone it's bloody fantastic.
