This was dumb.

Walküre was out on patrol, not for youmas or cats to save out of trees, but for Variscite. A full, long, and agonizing month had passed since they last encountered each other. What started out as a fight ended up as a cuddle-love-fest.

This had left Sailor Walküre quite confused. On one hand, things just felt right.... On the other, Variscite really wanted to kill her. Usually, she would have used her logic and stayed away from the girl, but her logic had long since flown out the window.

It was dusk, and the streetlights in Destiny City were starting to come on. Patrolling in a relatively populated part of town, Walküre hoped to find Variscite causing some kind of trouble. The thought of seeking out a villain in the act, but not trying to stop them was... weird.

She couldn't shake it from her mind; she had to see her again.

Another day at Fondue Haus, another day with aching feet. If Dale didn't have another shift the next day, she would've thrown her apron on the ground and stomped it mercilessly into the dust. But, Mr. Rook was busy and she hadn't quite gotten the hang of doing her own laundry yet. (One time, the poor man had walked-- sorry, slipped in to the laundry room with suds all over the floor. "Well, it needs soap for it to be clean, right?" Dale had retorted. Oh, dear.)

In the streets near the restaurant, the glint of a winged tiara caught Dale's blue eyes. She let an intoxicating smirk overcome her features. Things had been annoying since her last encounter with the Senshi of Battle. How appropriate was it for Variscite to woo her! Amour was a battle fought skillfully by not just the young people of Destiny City, but the Vikings of long ago.

Dale sauntered behind a large tree and let her lieutenant's uniform melt onto her. Would she take Walküre's Seed tonight? Probably not. She already had the senshi dancing in the palm of her hand, what use would it be to cut it short?

Of course, all this was an excuse for: "She could beat the living s**t out of me if I tried." But Variscite would never admit it.

Walküre wasn't like the other girls. She knew some of the truth. She knew, at least, that Variscite hadn't been beaten for nothing. She knew that Variscite wasn't pathetic. No, Variscite wasn't. She would get stronger, strong enough to beat Walküre someday.

Until then, Variscite walked away from the line of trees, her eyes focused solely on the Valkyrie.

Sailor Walküre approached a delicious smelling restaurant. If she hadn't been on a mission, she would have powered down and gotten a bite to eat. No time for her to be distracted tonight though. She made a mental note of the restaurant's name for later. "Fondue Haus" Maybe she could convince Father to bring her here, although going to a restaurant like that with your parent was pretty lame.

Out of the corner of her eye, Walküre saw a yellow sash blow out from behind a tree. Could it be her? Did Variscite also have good taste in food? She let her imagination wander as she envisioned them together in a dark booth dipping piece of bread into the gooey vats of cheese and feeding them to each other.

She quickly fought these thoughts away. There was always a chance that their last encounter was a fluke, and she had to keep her wits about her in case Variscite tried to do anything sneaky.

Although she was confident she would win in a fight again, she knew it would break her heart to have it happen. Poor love-sick little senshi.

If Variscite could read thoughts, she would've been all over that. It would've been chocolate fondue, even. No, first steak in au juice, then chocolate fondue. With strawberries. She'd rent out the entire building and shoo out all the workers. Oh, wouldn't that be fun.

Well, perhaps if she wasn't broke.

The wind was always lovely with Variscite's sash. When you had short hair and a generally short uniform, you needed something long to accent it. Variscite had wanted to try wearing a yellow feather boa to match, but she had forgotten. Oh, well.

To be honest, Variscite wished that she could have been dressed like Annie Lennox as she approached the Valkyrie. Or at least had one of her cars with her. She would never forgive her father for that. For certainly, it wasn't her fault that the accident happened. It was anyone's fault but her's.

"You look so much better around here than in an alley. Places like that just don't suit you," she drawled.

Walküre blushed as she saw the object of her affection approach. She stood up a little straighter, chest out, butt back.

"No. They really don't suit me," she replied; vein as usual.

She looked over her shoulder, making sure there wasn't anyone watching. The two of them stood out so there really wasn't a way to be discreet about this, but that didn't mean they had do anything to draw attention.

Walking over to meet Variscite, Walküre took long, decisive steps. Between her posture and her stride, she carried herself like someone of great importance.

Although, once she reached her, she wasn't sure what to do next. This was usually the part where she'd punch Variscite.

Variscite didn't move forward to greet the senshi. No, she'd let Walküre strut herself over. And strut she could, even her posture screamed that she wanted something more than a beating. All she needed to do was the 'bend and snap' move, really. It would've been annoying if it hadn't been Walküre, but the fact that the Battle Senshi was working her moves to impress her... well, that was something new and adorable.

"Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't have any Star Seeds on me. I'll be nice, though. You can deck me, anyway," Variscite laughed. "Yeah, go ahead and hit me. I've healed up enough, I need more abuse."

Variscite leaned forward so she was almost at the senshi's height, and patted her own cheek. "Right here, go ahead. Give it all you've got."

Annoyed, Walküre looked at her. "You want me to punch you?" Wait, was this what happens in relationships? She thought she remembered Father saying something about not tolerating abuse. Then again, he was implying that she would be on the receiving end of it.

She pulled her fist back, and readied the strike. This was routine for her. Battle was, you know, her thing. It was what she did. Yet, she stood there with her arm still and motionless; the only thing moving was her mind.

Do it.

Do it.

Hit her.

Instinct gave way to the sappy feelings she had, "love hurts, baby" she said as punched Variscite.

And then Variscite got walloped in the face. As the woman went reeling back, she had to think-- what exactly had she done to merit getting punched in the face?

Oh, right. She had flirted... and the Senshi of Battle took her seriously. She learned the difficult way to never joke with Sailor Walküre when it came to blows.

Variscite stumbled back a few steps, and then decided to dramatize it up by falling on her rear. She lifted a hand to her injured cheek, which would surely bruise.

"Well, if the General-King asks what I've been up to, at least I have proof of battle," said Variscite. She offered a bitter chuckle before rising back to her feet. "Right, perhaps that will serve me in the end..."

She was blushing angrily at herself.

"Who do you senshi serve, anyway? I doubt they could be as fearsome as our General-King. ... Why do you take orders from them, anyhow?" Variscite looked almost pleading, but it was just for a moment. "Oh, forget it. We shouldn't talk about things like that now, should we?"

Variscite's smirk widened as she walked beside the senshi and snaked an arm around her waist.

Oh! She was being sarcastic when she asked to be punched! And here she thought it was just some sort of kinky-love-game.

Walküre immediately felt horrible for punching her; very different to the pride she usually felt from doing it.

"Who do we serve?" she thought for the first time ever. She really had not considered it. Sailor Walküre was very much for beating up the bad guys and saving the day, but in the end, she never thought about why she was doing it. Maybe she should have.

She would ask one of the other senshi, but she really wasn't in contact with any of them. Sure, she ran into one here and there, but they were one time encounters. This...ordeal... this...relationship.... with Variscite was the most lasting thing she had encountered so far.

Then suddenly, there was an arm around her. She must have been zoning out and lost in her own mind. The Senshi of Battle let her heart melt, and she put her hand on Variscite's face. "I'm really sorry I punched you. Can I make it up to you somehow?"

Variscite smiled and put her hand over the Valkyrie's. She could've gotten what she wanted. It would be easy to get what she wanted from this senshi.

However, that wouldn't be fun, would it? A simple taking with little reward. It would be better, in the long-run, to let this "relationship" grow more before plucking. Better-tended trees gave better fruit, after all.

"Children often say that kisses make injuries feel better," Variscite laughed. "Maybe a kiss on the cheek from the Senshi of Battle would heal my wounds."

Variscite let go of her hand and looked away.

"It was my own fault for joking like that with you. I should've known better. Senshi are taught only to battle. They get paranoid, scared. The only things they're taught to do is act or re-act. Throw the first punch or defend. Our Queen and leaders teach us so much more. They give us power, but they also teach us to lead. They teach us to rely on not only ourselves, but on our companions. We're far closer than any senshi team..."

Variscite shrugged, and put on the drama by looking forlornly at the sky.

"How could I have expected you to do anything else?"

Walküre leaned in and puckered her lips. A kiss on the cheek was a lot more innocent than their fist kiss. She put her lips to Variscite's punched and warm skin.

If she wasn't so lovestruck like a little puppy dog, the usually tough Senshi of Battle would have realized what was going on here. She was being played with like a wad of putty.

But love was a strange thing.

"I guess," she paused, "you're right. I was sort of just sent out to fight; to stop evil." Walküre blushed, "sorry, no offense meant by that last statement. You'll forgive me, yes?"

Sailor Walküre wondered what it would be like to part of a close team. She was supposed to be with other senshi, but it never worked out for her. Then again, it was her own doing. She shut them out, and cut herself off. Maybe this time, with this family, she shouldn't make the same mistake.

Variscite smiled when Walküre spoke about fighting evil.

"Evil? Really," she ran a hand over Walkure's hair, almost petting her like a lapdog. At least it was affectionate. "That's funny. You see, we see you senshi as the evil ones."

Variscite took a step away and started to slowly pace while explaining her 'situation'. Most of it was false, of course. The Negaverse was evil. They killed innocent people, and who knows what would happen if they succeeded? But Variscite had a way with words. Oh, Walküre didn't know what was about to hit her.

"We follow our Queen because we believe that her rule is what is best for the Earth. Some might call her power hungry, but I don't think so. We are her family. She is our leader, but our mother as well."

If Variscite hadn't been working so hard to convince the pretty senshi, she would've laughed at the 'mother' statement. She did laugh about it later on that evening, in fact. Beryl was terrifying, certainly no mother.

"We do these unfortunate things because we have to. I take no pleasure in hurting others. I mean, you saw me. I end up getting hurt the most."

Variscite offered a pathetic smile. Ugh, she hated trodding herself down. But, well, Walküre had a nice rack... and she could beat her into the dirt. Variscite would have to work on that.

"We do it so that she can lead Earth. There will be peace, order, and no more pain. That's how we see it... that's our goal."

Gag.

Walküre had put no ranks in Sense Motive.

The idea of having a mother was so nice. She hadn't had one for a long time now in her civilian life, and never in her senshi life. She knew there was a queen she was fighting for, but she had never met her or anyone else who directly represented her.

Also, she was enjoying having her hair pet. Basic grooming activities are signs of affection that had long been missing from her life. She remembered the times she spent with Mother so long ago. She wanted that feeling back.

Walküre gave a nod to Variscite silently acknowledging the statement.

Unfortunately, Variscite had taken the time to make sure that she had a high ability score in Charisma. This plus a couple of high rolls put the advantage towards Variscite's speech.

The lieutenant turned around and looked at Walküre closely. She was silent, waiting. Finally, she sighed:

"You're not questioning my sanity. That's refreshing. Most people attack without even listening. It's nice that the Senshi of Battles listens to the motives of her enemies. Informed soldiers are the best, don't you think?"

She walked over to a bench and sat down.

"What about your Queen? I'm not asking for secrets or anything," she waved her hand, dismissing the idea. "I just want to know why this Queen has so many soldiers fighting for her. What does she want with the Earth?"

Variscite couldn't gather any intelligence even if she wanted to because Walküre didn't have any to give. She had been a good little sailor solider fighting all this time even though she really didn't know why. Sure, she had fought enough to become more powerful than the other scouts she'd encountered, but that didn't mean that she knew what was going on.

Walküre walked over to the bench, sat down, and cozied up next to the more talkative woman. She didn't look at her, but rather stared off into the distance.

"Look, I have no idea," she said as her nose wrinkled and her eyes narrowed, "They don't tell me anything. The other senshi, they're kind of bitches. I beat up monsters for them, and then they tell me we'll meet up again, but it never happens."

She stood back up and folded her arms under her breasts and hugged herself tightly. "Our Queen wants to protect the Earth; wants us to protect the Earth for her. You'd think that damn talking cat that got me into this mess would have told me more, but maybe I was expecting too much. I wanted to get out there and play the super hero, to matter. Look where all of those noble intentions got me: flirting with danger. Literally."
