Darkness came early in the forest, already the sun had disappeared behind the thick canopy of trees leaving Ellette to try and navigate through the thick underbrush in the darkness.
She shivered as she continued on, she needed to find someplace warm and safe to spend the night, This particular forest was no place for idle wandering, there were many dangers even in the daylight it was foolish to travel at night but she felt secure in her strength and size, she was much taller and muscular than most soquili. Usually that was enough to avoid conflict. She wouldn't have taken the path through this particular forest if she had had any other choice, despite her care she has lost the path a few miles in and was now quite thoroughly lost. She glanced up at the thick screen created by the tough evergreens but it was no use. Even when she could manage to catch a glimpse at the sky she couldn't make out any constellations, for all she knew she was heading back the way she had come.
It was a wonder she had managed to pass this far unmolested, with any luck the rest of her journey would be just as eventful.

His nose twitched, his head raised slowly. He took in a deep breath.. there was an unfamiliar scent that roamed the breeze tonight. "Food", he thought to himself. The large male scanned the area, he didn't see any movement nearby, his stomach grumbled just a bit as he thought of a tasty morsel of meat. His ears twitched, swiveling around listening for any sounds. The scent again caught his nostrils and he began tracking the scent to the source, his claws digging into the ground slightly as he pawed through the forest. He licked his lips in hopes of something tender...maybe a small foal or fawn had lost their way into his territory...there meat was always the best.

Ellette paused in her hoofbeats, her body tensed as she listened for the rustle of leaves or the hiss of breath. The forest has gone silent, smaller animals fleeing the scent that permeated her flaring nostrils. The pungent odor of old meat and a tangy hint of dried blood. She tried to make her breathing as quiet as possible and she started foreword again, cursing her pride fueled stupidity for moving through unfamiliar territory at such a late hour.
The back of her neck prickled, whatever it was was moving but it's footfalls were far too quiet, hooves could navigate through this underbrush with such impossible silence. Her heart began to pound audibly against her ribcage as her eyes wildly searched through the penetrating darkness.
She broke into a trot, the need for silence had passed, it was far too late for that. She needed to find a defensible spot or get out of there in any way she could. She stumbled over a root, snorting at the pain that flared in her hoof, "just perfect" she growled through teeth bared against the pain.

Nos stopped at the sudden sound, someone or something had made a terrible mistake. Targeted.
He shifted his form to his smaller size. It was easier for him to move un-noticed and easier for him to move through the thickets of the forest without getting trapped.
Quickly, but silently, he made his way towards the sound. A flash of cream coat caught his eyes. "There you are..." he broke into a toothy grin.
The mare was larger than most, her muscles were toned under her coat. She would be a challenge to take down, but he licked his lips anyway. Any meat was good meat.

She could feel its proximity...whatever it was. Her breathing came in shallow gasps from fear intermingled with the pain from her leg. She broke free of the path littered with snarled roots and thick underbrush into a small overgrown clearing, the grass tickled her stomach. Stretched towards the clouds infront of her was a tall outcropping of grey stone. She whirled around, placing it at her back and scanned the area trying to glimpse her pursuer.
She bared her teeth in defiance, the warm buzz of adrenaline pumping through her veins as she shifted into a defensive stance. Her eyes flashed, she would teach it the dangers if trifling with a warhorse.
"Well come out then!" She called out to the darkness, "I can hear you, unless you've re considered." Better the thing blunt its teeth on her than attack some other helpless traveler. An image of a young sapphire maned stallion flashed through her mind. She had last seen him in this forest, if the boy was foolish enough to linger against her advice, he would be endangered by this creature. He might be a fool but she wasn't about to let him get killed before she could finish training him to defend himself.
Ellette laughed softly, here she was about to be made someone's supper and she was distracting herself from the upcoming battle with minutiae, foolish.

Nos watched from the shadows, he was amused by the large mare bareing her teeth out into the nothingness that surrounded her.
He heard her words as a challenge. She was ither brave... or very foolish. None the less, he would answer her call to him. His golden eyes flashed from the shadows of the bushes, slowly he stalked out in front of her.
His smaller cat frame made a semi-circle around the mare, sizing her up. If she moved, he would transfer back to his normal state and attack in an instant. He would have to be in his larger state to even attempt to bring down this mare. In his small size, he would not be able to hardly damage her.
His ears pinned back on his head and his stomach growled, it was time to eat.
