I'm thinking about starting up a shop on Etsy, but I'm a bit intimidated by the whole ordeal. How will I manage mailing art? Is there special rules I need to follow? hidden fees anywhere? I'd like to get some help from people who have some experience with managing Etsy art accounts, or just managing freelance art businesses in general. Anyone out there?

My mom uses etsy for selling doll clothing that she knits and otherwise hand makes. There's a small fee for each sale that you make. I don't know what the fee is exactly, but it's pretty minimal (probably because etsy has millions of users now.)
It seems pretty intuitive to use. My mother can do it for crying out loud. I think she also had to set up a pay pal account to receive her payments. Hopefully someone with hands on etsy experience can respond to this. I can't say that I've used it personally. I've just spied on my mom on a handful of occasions.

Really? Huh! Haha, that's cool. I mostly just worry about how shipping works and all, but maybe it is pretty much self-solve and easy to do... Hm. We shall see.

I know mom takes shipping into consideration when she prices her stuff on etsy. You ship things yourself so you may want to do a bit of research on how much shipping costs for various sizes and weights in your area. Because that is something you should take into account when you're pricing your items on Etsy. If it's large and heavy, shipping will cost an arm a leg, so that item should probably cost more than the others. Y'know?

Much appreciated for the tips. It was what I thought, too, but I just wasn't all too sure. Thanks though! 3nodding
