Something of a word game, I love scrolling through topics like these for ideas and to see how other people built their avatars. Quite simple - is it built from a color scheme? A certain item? a theme? Just threw it together? Post what the newest avi is about smile
My current avi is built around my fav. items on Gaia in their fav poses just to see if I could mesh them all together. (CN Scarf (regal hero) +Pico's Urn (wrap) ) Golden Laurels + Base 3 eyes)

O: Oh fun. I love hearing what people's inspirations were too.
You meshed those items together very well.
Since the Deejay Pants sponsor item was just released yesterday, I'm still playing around with it. My first idea was to go cyberpunk with the wig. I used goggles and the cyberpunk suit. I eventually switched to the shoes instead of the suit. I added gold because the yellow on the goggles drove me nuts. This made the avatar unbalanced so I had to add items to try to even out the clutter. The goggles got covered by a hat. And my last move covered the hair's pigtails. Their shape was too much for the avatar. I then added a mole and frown to fill space and make the avatar look a little more "high fashion." So, my avatar was inspired by the shape of the wig, and the shape got covered up at the end.

I started off with the Deejay pants + hat idea and wanted to make a non-matching avatar with teal as the unifying color.

My current avatar I wanted to make some kind of robot-ish-thing without using droid skin or leaning too heavily on the automaton items. Edit: This avatar.

I'm going to say favorite items, because with most of my avis I incorporate at least two of these.
Royal Crown Red Dark Halo Spartan Cloak Katana Horns Of The Demon Nitemare Sash

I try to build around items I like... I'm really new to this. O___O
My favorite item is Artemis... so I keep trying to find creative ways to use it. Kind of failing on that frontier. Most things won't layer well with it.

I was looking for avatar ideas and someone suggested "blue" as a prompt which isn't much but I decided to try it. I started with the bracers because I haven't used that pose of Inari's in a long time. I also wanted to use my Nitemare Scarf and my favorite pair of jeans. I wanted to use this Urn pose because I'd never seen it used even semi-successfully and hoped I might manage it. The lantern was added to help balance the dark blue tail feathers of the Urn pose. I didn't want to use contacts and skins and wigs like I always do so I actually picked out some shoes and used an undershirt and gloves and a mask to cover all my avatar's skin and compromised by using a wig (because I never change my avatar's hair) but when I went to equip it no matter what I did the mask equipped over the hair so I caved and used Yemaya's Pearl for white skin on the face and Frigid Night Jewel for the eyes and decided to add the WtD Horns and Nervegas Crisis headband.

I started investing in the Nightmare for a Marketplace profit but got way too carried away. Eventually it turned towards clutter and seeing just how many layers I can work with. I still don't understand them all xDD
Mostly I tend towards visual themes in patterns. For this one I began with the pants detail, so on my usual base (Uncanny Form and White Clown Makeup) I gathered up a couple of the black and white items I had and bought some more. And then a few, since there were complaints about white distribution. This was when I whipped out this nifty bandana from the Pirate Sando's Vest, which adds a little bit of yellow underneath the Fascinator, and it's all downhill from there.

I have to say that this particular one of yours developed to be really awesome. The best use of any of those Halftone poses that I've seen.

Sure. Lately I've been into the "realistic" type of avatars. So I was having trouble getting started, so I just thought, Why don't I make an avatar that looks like what I'm wearing right now? I have a blue T-shirt and plaid shorts on. Well, there aren't any plaid shorts on gaia, but these boxers were the closest thing to what my shorts look like. And blue obviously doesn't go with them, so I looked for a shirt that would work and I settled with this starter top.
Then I picked shoes. I decided on sandals because I'm going more for a summer look. And I love these sandals and I've never used them before. Then something on my head. I realized that my head looked huge (so I need a different hairstyle!) I really liked the way caps looked, and I've never worn the John Cena cap before, so I figured I'd use it.
Then I picked accessories. I don't know why, but I really like the way this handkerchief looks. And then sunglasses fit with the theme. The handhelds were next. I liked the soda, because.. people drink soft drinks in the summer. And the lute looked cool. I just put on a couple of extra accessories after that.
Items I used that I've never used before: Nicolae's Underwear, Striped Boxers, Buddhist Monk's Straw Sandals, John Cena's Cap, Pongo the Ferret, REBEL YELLO! Bottled Cooler, Eloquent Lute

OOOH! This avatar is so very gorgeous! heart I have a weak spot for black and blue, so it really appeals to my eyes! *o* Actually, I should even say that my favorite color is "black&blue". x'D Anyway, awesome work! ^___^
Sooo, my current avatar.
I had had my old avatar for a while, and decided it was time to change. I wanted to stick with the elf skin though, and since as of late I've wanted to make rpg character-themed avatars, I decided to keep the theme as well. I usually start off from a color or two, and that's what I did this time, too. I decided to put blue and green together, and the rest of the avatar kind of created itself. The final details took a while to figure out, I couldn't decide where to insert tattoos and what handheld items to use, but I'm pretty satisfied with the result. I might swap the clover into something else, put something in the face and switch an item or two, but other than that, I really like the adventurous look she has now. :3

This avatar started out as a theme and an item. I had the Victorianna skirt and I wanted to make something adorable and sweet. Then I came up with this dress layering and it sort of came alive when my Reve evolved to give me cute looking eyes.

This avatar was not made by me for once. It was made by a friend (Sayurixchan) who entered it in a tek-tek contest I was having because I had conjunctivitis and could only pretend to see by donning my very old glasses, blowing up everything on my computer screen and sitting very close to it (this also achieved giving me a whomping headache in short order). The contest was to create an avatar that incorporated the color lilac or light purple for May 25th, Wear the Lilac for Alzheimer's awareness day. I altered the original slightly by changing the hand the cane was held in and giving him a kiseru to add to the drugged hippie look.
