Faded golden beams filtered through the half leaved branches of the trees. Spring had sprung, and although Brin had never known any other season she found it to be quite interesting. Blossoms fell, giving way so that new leaves could form. Unfortunately it meant that every day there was less and less sunlight seeping though to the ground, and Brin, below. Although there were fewer warming rays Brin couldn't help but feel warm and refreshed this afternoon. She hadn't gone very far from home yet but she was due to meet with her sparing partner here soon. She had to find an opening to escape her mothers watchful eye, and what better way to do so than to explore the area around one's own home? Humming lightly to herself Brin romped through the foliage of the forest floor, chasing an invisible playmate in an odd game of tag.

Suppi had long since grown accustomed to her own company - something that was only broken by very sporadic and brief meetings with an Angeni who had immediately decided that she was his new best friend. She had always considered a rather superficial friendship, one that he had selected so that he might practice his holy ways and make sure he was prepared for the world when he grew up. That was how things had always been, she had always had a 'use' but very few were aware of any personal details. Admittedly she had failed to realise that her 'friend' was the most considerate and loving of creatures towards her, but having experienced so much disgust and horror she found it difficult to trust such caring words beyond that of her adoptive mother.
...Nyx had taken good care of her.
Alas, with so few aware of who this strange mare truly was she was granted the opportunity to go about her day undisturbed. It was something that quite a number of individuals might have craved, but the quiet was often horrible and lonely for the mare who experienced so much of it. In order to protect herself from such hatred she had long ago mastered the art of skulking through the shadows and only the flowers and trees were privvy to her little secret pleasures.
This afternoon was of no exception and the ebony mare made quick work of navigating her way through the scattered tree trunks. Weaving in and out of each obstacle, occasionally leaping over a fallen logs. She ducked silently beneath low lying branches but gave no indication of her existance save for the occasional dull thump or shuffle of a hoof. Her plan for the day was to retreat into one of her more obscure groves, it wasn't anything particularly special but with the coming of spring the flowers were beginning to bloom and she had been watching the tiny stems for weeks. Suffice to say, the mare wanted to be there when these blossoms opened their eyes and greeted the world.
A smile teased it's way onto the corners of her mouth and caused her teeth to protrude quite visibly at this thought. Thankfully, the smile wasn't so significant as to warp her facial features but had she drawn it back into a cheshire cat grin things would have been different - she'd learnt that a number of years ago as a filly.
Needless to say, she would be in for a shock when she discovered another soquili in her midst, something she would not be prepared for!

The forest suddenly fell silent as Brin froze in her steps. She hadn't actually heard anything, didn't smell anything, but... A shadow had passed through her sight from one of her wings and it startled her. She had assumed that she was alone, but now she was not so sure. Still, even after Brin had gone silent, there wasn't a sound from any other being. Brin shrugged off the feeling that there was another near by and returned to her playing.
And then there it was again, this time on the other side of her. Brin didn't think it could be a predator circling her, hunting her; they passed as if they were simply walking by. Brin would have disregarded the first shadow, but the second one she simply could not ignore. Curiosity was getting the better of her. She turned to see who the shadow belonged to to find the being it belonged to gone.
"Hmmm..." Brin muttered to herself. Should she pursue the being or not? Well, the worst thing that could happen is she could be yelled at - a predator would have attacked her already she assumed. With a giggle and a smile Brin set out to find the shadow and it's owner.

She'd been followed before, pursued relentlessly until her adoptive 'father' had stepped in and terrified the poor sop who had thought to harm her. Though he was no more than a shadowy and elusive being, she'd always been thankful for his existence and his superb timing. Alas, now that she had grown older, Sylph Forcas was not a regular visitor to the grove any longer and seemed more than satisfied with her progress. It made her warm inside to know that both he and Nyx recognised that she was not a beast, that she had worked hard not to transform into something that seemed natural based on her blood.
Nevertheless that wariness had never left her and when the hair on her neck prickled she knew she wasn't alone. Her muscles grew tight and her pale eyes shifted left, right and then behind as she swung her head back to check. Alas, she hadn't taken note of anyone in her surroundings to begin with but who was to say they weren't like her? She wasn't so naive as to believe she was the only individual capable of skulking and stealth. Her lips pursed into a thin line, a grimace almost and eventually she chose to move on.
...It was then that she heard the giggle.
Her ears swivelled immediately, pinpointing the direction the sound had come from and with a tiny hiss of fright the ebony mare quickly retreated to the shadows. Said shadows would give her reasonable cover, provided by a thick cluster of tree trunks, but an observant creature would see her on a double take. She'd just have to hope they weren't observant and were merely passing through!
