x x x It wasn't that Domovoi was completely against meeting wolves along the way - that was hardly avoidable - but long visits wouldn't behoove them. He actually enjoyed listening to the three nobles talk the several days before! Not often could you see royalty convene like that. But the servant was equally glad when they were away and walking once more, much as his paws ached from their travels. Not once did he let slip a complaint, however; it wouldn't do him well to let his princess think that he couldn't handle the journey! Though at length, with the warming temperatures and the noonday sun directly above them, Domo began to pant a little heavier than usual; oh, the curses of having a mostly dark pelt!
"Miss," he said after a while, "Miss, might we pause for a while and drink from the river? The days are growing longer and the heat is coming faster. We cannot neglect water especially at this time of year." The problem was that he was unfamiliar with this area of Telk - oh, he was so useless! Gods help them, maybe a river or lake wasn't far . . .

Delu would be lying if she wasn't suffering the effects of their long and weary march. When Domo suggested a small rest she was very much relieved her own purple coat was dark enough to do little in the way of keeping her cool and like the black male she was finding the heat quite bothersome. After her terrible display during the lynx attack however Delu had told herself she would die..absolutely die before showing herself to be the weak link of their small team.
No...if Domo could keep going then so could she - even if she pinned for her warm and cozy den, the good meals, the known lands...her family...it was all for the greater good right? After everything was said and done she could return home the victor and lead her family away to a life of luxury upon their reclaimed lands. They would drink only from the purest of water sources - those spring fed rock pools rumored to lurk within the mountains, they would sleep in dens lined with soft hides, upon springy beds of foliage and fresh smelling wildflowers.
It would be a lovely life...but for now, her feet hurt and her throat was parched and she was in a slight temper due to the heat. She did her best however to remain the lady and hold herself to proper etiquette. "Yes..yes of course we must keep our strength" She agreed with the black wolf "A rest is certainly in order and a suitable location cannot be so very far away" She continued as she lifted her head to look through the tees - as though this small act of looking would magically make said water source appear. It did not of course and she looked to Domo "Do you have a direction to suggest?"

The sun posed a different problem for the bright pair of siblings. It was hard enough for them to hide during the day, but the damn sunlight made their fur shine like a beacon amongst the natural colours of the land. Gaspard had it a bit easier with his mostly green pelt, but there was nothing for Laera to do but keep as alert as possible. They were both on edge not only because of their inability to pass through quietly, but Gaspard had also had a run-in with what he had thought was a bear. It had frightened them both so badly that they hadn't been able to get a good rest since. They both took lagging steps, just barely picking up their paws to shuffle onward, onward, onward... Something about the monotony of it all was starting to get to them.
"Laera, we need to rest soon... " The whisper came suddenly from behind Laera and the female wolf had to stop herself from swinging around and snapping at Gaspard in surprise. Her energy and focus was waning by the minute, but she still tried to recover and turn to him with a confident smile. She was supposed to be the strong one, even if that meant hiding how she was feeling.
"Yep! I'm looking for a spot right now. I think we're close." Oh gods, she hoped that was the truth! They both hadn't seen water in a while, and food would have been a great find as well. But Laera had no idea where they were going, even if it looked like it as she took a strong lead. It didn't really matter where she went either. Her brother would follow her blindly off a cliff. The thought made the violet female shake her head a little.
"What's that?" Suddenly Gaspard tensed, nose pointed in the air and quivering. Laera caught the scent too. Another pair of wolves had passed through recently. On a regular day, Laera may have gone out of her way to avoid them, but it had been so long since she had seen an unrelated face that she eagerly started to follow. Perhaps they had food or a place to rest? She pressed on despite Gaspard's quiet protests.

Ah, thank the heavens that she agreed! Not that Delusion would be the type to consider marching them forward as if they were going off to greet Death himself and couldn't be late, but the princess could surprise him with how particularly stubborn she could be about somethings. Her servant knew very well that being away from her regular comforts at home must have been tough, and every inch of the way Domovoi sought a new way to try and make her comfortable: moss beds if they were near a suitable patch of land, the first to eat what they hunted (Never scrounged, heavens no! He made sure of it.), allowed to take naps if it pleased her and they happened across a shady spot to settle - oh yes, Domo was quite a spoiler; her happiness meant his.
But it was not always easy, and when things grew especially quiet or difficult - such as now, when they were both beginning to overheat - the large omega would force himself to keep his senses alert as they moved. A good example would be the shimmer of unnatural color he caught at the very utmost corner of his eye when he happened to turn his head just slightly to the side as it bobbed with every few steps: purple-pink and green. Definitely had not been there before. Casually, he leaned himself a little closer to Delusion as they moved forward, saying in a low voice, "M'lady, please do not panic, but I think we are being followed. Shall we lose them in the forest, or do you want me to drive them off for you before any trouble arises?"

At Domos words Delu had to fight viciously with herself to keep from wheeling about and trying to spot the villains following them. Her gaze ticked left and right as she sought a suitable course through the woods. "Do you think the spy's found us already?" She asked Domo in alarm. She didn't see how they could have - they'd left a pretty awkward trail and certainly hadn't stayed anywhere long enough for other wolves to point spy's in their direction.
But of course one could never tell and the unmentionable evil had lots of talent in his ranks. "Do you think we can loose them?" She questioned Domo - the woods they were in were not very thick and she doubted their ability to outright loose them unless they made a run for it. "Perhaps you ought to drive them away" she finally stated "But do be careful!" the last thing she needed was Domo getting wounded again.

"Laera, wait!" Gaspard whispered harshly, wishing his sister wasn't ignoring his pleas. He didn't feel safe with this course of action, and usually Laera would at least stop and listen to him even if she didn't agree with a word he said. What had changed? He looked around shakily, stepping gingerly around twigs and leaves that could reveal their positions if they were stepped on. Laera wasn't being careful enough for his liking and he had to resist the urge to clamp down on her tail to force her to stop. Instead he clamped his mouth shut and drew close to her flank, trying to use his shoulder to push her back into the thicker growth.
Oh, why hadn't he kept his mouth shut! Gaspard should have known something was up with his sister. He was tired, even though he continued to persevere, no doubt Laera was doing the same. Sometimes he was so worried about himself that he forgot about Laera's well-being completely.
He peered into the trees as they walked. He thought he saw a dark sliver that didn't seem quite like a shadow. Then he though he caught a glimpse of something else. Wait... if he could see the strangers, that probably meant they could see them! Especially with their bright fur. Was Laera planning to walk right into them? Gaspard let out the smallest of whimpers.
