In the deep forest there is a solitary patch of flowers; growing in a small clearing. Most herla don't know about it; but a small fawn does. Her gold hair shimmering in the rays of sun that are able to break through the trees and their leaves. She smiles to herself; happy with her find. A group of wild flowers that grow only here; in this one spot. The color of fire. Deep reds and oranges with tinges of yellow towards the outer most part of the petals.
Flora can't help but be excited as she lays in the flowers; staring at them intensely. She hasn't brought anyone here yet; it's her little hide away. She's certain Ember would like these flowers. But she doesn't want to show them to her yet... She wants to be selfish with this place; to keep it all to herself and never let anyone else have it.
When she's an adult! She'll live here; and play in the flowers all day! Flora smiled as she laid her head down in the flowers and closed her eyes. This place was full of magic; she was certain of it. It was too pretty; and peaceful; and quiet to not be. And even though she's all alone in this place; she doesn't feel lonely. She feels content here; not that she knows what that feeling really is; all she knows is; when she's here; no matter how sad or upset she is... She's happy.

Kindle's day had been the worst. So far he had slipped down an embankment and faceplanted, tripped on a root while strutting in front of a lady herla, AND had eaten some bad grass. This was NOT how he had planned on spending his day; sick, dirty and humiliated. He just needed to get away from it all for a while. Away from all the expectations and drama of the herd. So he headed for his favorite clearing.
He had never seen anyone in the clearing, so it was easy to think of it as his secret place. Somewhere for him to go and relax without worrying about being stumbled upon. He hadn't been here in a while, as herd obligations had taken him to places outside of the usual forest, but he was glad to be back. He broke from the trees surrounding his clearing and sighed in pure joy at being there.
Walking with a purpose he made a beeline to the middle of a giant patch of beautiful flowers, and, dropping all signs of dignity, he threw himself to the ground. "Ahhhh....", his relieved sigh echoed throughout the hollow as he continued to roll around in the flowers, at peace for the first time in a long time.

Flora lifted her head at the sounds of an adult coming but quickly hid it again; blending in with the tall grass and the dirt and the flowers. When she saw heard the sigh she lifted her head again albeit timidly to look at who ever was in her space. All she saw was long legs sticking up in the air and moving side to side... She smiled and tried to stop her self from laughing. They looked funny doing that! <3
But still... the point of the matter was... this herla was in her secret place... and she wasn't so sure if she liked it all that much... she should go and ask them to please leave. Nodding to herself Flora quietly stood to her feet; she wished Emebr was here. Flora hated confrontation but Ember was so good about it.
Flora worried at her lower lip nervously; unsure about what she should do here... Finally; she decided she should go and ask the other herla what they were doing here. They probably didn't know that this was her spot... Yeah that's it.
The closer she got; the more she could see some smoke... smoke? OH! it was Asher and Ember's daddy! that's who it was. She smiled excitedly; their daddy was pretty and he was nice too. "Um... e-e-excuse me... Mr. Embers daddy sir?" She called; having stopped a few feet away and not getting a good look at him; but certain that this is Suvius cause mr. Ember's daddy has red on his legs like this herla does. It all made perfect sense. "what are you doing here?"

"Wha...?" Hearing a little voice calling him Ember's dad was the LAST thing Kindle expected to hear at HIS secret spot. Flipping over and standing up, he peered through the bright sunlight. It took him a second, but he finally realized that pretty little flower was in fact a pretty little herla. Tilting his head his jaw dropped a little at just HOW pretty she was.
"Uhm....hello?" As he's not sure what to say next.

Flora's eyes widened as she suddenly realized that this was not in fact Mister Ember's dad; this was someone else... this was a STRANGER. She looked around nervously; her ears going back against her head as she wasn't sure what to do. Where was Ember when she needed her???
"U-U-um I... uh... who are you?" She asked nervously; worrying at her lower lip. Sure she was certain she looked silly now. "Why are you here?" She asked looking from side to side awkwardly.

Sees how nervous the child has suddenly gotten. "Oh, um. I'm Kindle. Suvius is my dad?" Trying to un-freak her out. "Oh, I know who YOU are. Flora, right? You're friends with my little sister Ember." He gets back on the ground in a kneeling position, making himself as small as possible. He may not know how to handle a panicked child, but he could do his best to stop her from panicking.
"Why am I here? Why, this is my special place." Smiling at her, he keeps his voice low and calm, "I've been coming here ever since I found it as a child. It's wonderful isn't it?" He inspects the child, seeing if he had reassured her any.

Flora visibly relaxed when she heard that Ember's daddy was his daddy too... but he looked so old! How old was Embers Daddy?? She wondered for a moment; not trying to think on it too hard... he was probably really old... but anyways. "Yu-huh 83" Flora replied nodding her head happily. "Ember and Asher are my most bestest most favoritist friends in the whole wide world!" She stressed the words whole and wide to make sure he understood how much they meant to her.
A small breeze made it's way through the trees and Flora's hair blew a little bit over her face as she listened to him speak. She shook her hair out of her eyes and sneezed; her little nose wrinkling up and her eyes closing shut as she let out a small "a-choo." She sniffled and looked back up to Kindle moving her nose around a bit cause it always felt weird when she sneezed.
She smiled a bit when he called it wonderful and she nodded her head. "It is really pretty.... but... this is your special place?" She asked her face falling and her shoulders sagging lightly. "ooh..." she'd have to find another special hiding place then. What a bummer... what a downer... how sad and unfair... but she wouldn't let it show; he was older; older people got their way first. They were adults after all.
"Can I sit with you for a while? please?" She asked cautiously; almost nervous as if she believed he would say no.

Watching her sneeze, Kindle felt his insides turn into water, like his stomach was melting. 'Hmm, must be that bad grass..' he thought to himself. Hearing her continue on, visibly sad that this was his place and not hers, he couldn't help but almost feel bad for taking the secrecy of the place away from her.
"Sure!" he replied, surprising himself by how excited he was that she wanted to stay. Watching as she nestled herself down in the flowers near to him, he was surprised at how well she seemed to fit into the field. Like she was a little golden flower, not just a little golden, adorable, beautiful...*cough* herla.
"Well, you know Flora..." Pulled himself together, reluctant to do this, but he knew he didn't have a choice. "I...don't really come here that often. If you wanted," steeling himself to make the offer," it could be your secret place instead." Tilting his head he peered at her, waiting for her reaction.

Flora rolled onto her side and nestled against Suvius closing her eyes and breathing lightly; taking in the sweet scent of the pretty flowers. Happy that she was still allowed to be in the secret place; even if it wasn't hers anymore... She wondered how hard it would be to find another secret place as pretty as this one... or as well hidden as this one.
She opened her eyes when he started talking again; she didn't lift her head but she did strain her eyes to look up at him. He didn't even come here a lot anymore! but then when he told her that she could have the place she squealed and flailed to get back to her feet.
"REALLY??" She asked excitedly her little tail wiggling a hundred miles a minute as a huge grin burst open on her face. She licked and nuzzled Kindles face happily. "really? really? you'd let me have this place???" She asked excitedly jumping around now happily as she thought of it.
But she stopped suddenly mid-air; her right ear perking to the side as if she was listening to something; she was in fact listening to her Guardian telling her it wasn't nice to just take it. Even if he'd already offered it.
"Um... I mean..." She looked a little upset at the thought that she might have hurt his feelings and walked back up to him nosing his nose with her own. "I don't want it all to myself... we can share it... if you wanna."

Even though he felt a sadness at offering his secret place to her, he knew that seeing her light up at the offer was more than worth it. But he never expected THIS! "Oh...oh my." He stuttered as she gave him little deer kisses, fairly blinded by her brightness. Trying to work his way through his sudden shortness of breath was difficult, but he managed it, "Why...yes, of course I mean it."
But, as she backed down, all he could feel was disappointment, not at the loss of his clearing, but at the loss of....something else. She was talking, he should really be listening. "Share it?" he thought about what this meant. "Yes! That's a great idea!" brightening at this suggestion. "We could make it our secret place." Smiling at this little ball of wonder.

"I'd like that a lot Kindle!" She told him giggling a big ball of sunshine and unicorn rainbows. "I know I'd be sad if I had to give this place up! It's so pretty and quiet and awesome! and nifty!" She told him giggling; laying back down in the flowers still next to Kindle and nudging him with her nose.
"Why are you breathing funny?" Flora asked tilting her head to the side and still smiling up at him. "Are you sick or something?" She asked giggling lightly. "If you're sick my daddy can help you! he know's lots of stuff about plants and things and he can help anyone!" She nodded her head proud of her parents; certain that everyone knew who they were no matter if she'd just met the person or not.
"Maybe you should go to sleep? That's what I do when I'm not feeling good! I can make sure you get some good sleep!" nodding her head a couple of times she nuzzled into the lower part of his shoulder; since that's all she could get to really. "You can't feel bad when you're here. It's not allowed!"

Happy because she was happy, Kindle just sat back and watched her prance around. He had never realized how interesting it could be just to watch another living thing. Well, he knew that all things were interesting, but Flora, she was special...even if he didn't understand why yet.
"Breathing funny?" Noticed it himself, controlling it. "It's nothing Flora, just some bad grass I ate earlier, it'll pass." Looking down at her, lying in the grass almost covered by it, he couldn't stop the warm tingly feeling in the middle of his chest. 'This..." he thought to himself, 'this is nice.' Again, she was speaking, listen Kindle!
"Sleep? Well..." thought about it, "But I am not very tired. why don't you take a nap, and i'll watch over you, to make sure you're safe." Nuzzling the top of her head, assuring her that all will be well. "And I know there's no feeling bad here, I invented that rule myself."

Flora smiled happy to hear that one of her rules was also one of his rules as well for this place. She closed her eyes when he told her that she should sleep and she shook her head yawning slightly now. This field was a long ways away for a fawn... She was kind of tired....
"But I'm not tiiiired~" She told him yawning as she said the word tired; it becoming more of a gurbled mess as she tucked her self in closer to Kindle; laying her head around his body. He sure was big compared to her... even compared to her daddy he was huge! She wondered briefly if Ember would get this big. That'd be so cool! She thought smiling to herself as she closed her eyes and her whole body relaxed at the thought of sleep. Even though she really didn't want to sleep yet; this herla was fun to talk to.
"I'm always safe..." She mumbled to him. "Others just like taking care of me.... I don't know why though; but they do."

Looking down at Flora's sleeping form Kindle couldn't help but curl his tail closer around her. "That's fine little one, i'll keep watch." He murmured to her as she drifted to sleep.
Looking off into the reaches of his field...no, their field, he felt a strange fluttering motion inside his stomach. Like he was super excited or super nervous, he couldn't tell which, but it was a powerful feeling. 'Uhg.' apparently accompanied by brief bouts of nausea. He'd never felt anything like this before! Well, once, when he was very young he remembered a feeling KINDA like this...whenever he was around Lazuli. But surely this wasn't the same...
Realization struck him. His head jerked back, eyes wide and nostrils flaring as he looked down at Flora's sleeping body. 'God no...' his usually deep purple hide rapidly changing to a pale lavender as all the blood drained from his face. 'With a child Kindle?!' Panicking, he stood as fast as possible in an attempt to get his body away from her frail form. Turning with no idea where he was to go, he readied himself to take off. But... he couldn't just leave her there, defenseless.
Mustering up the last of his courage Kindle turned back to Flora's form and stuttered something to wake her. "I...I...have to go Flora, please wake up..." He couldn't even look at her, shame coursing through his body.

Flora lifted one heavy eyelid as Kindle began to nudge her and tell her she needed to get up becuase he had to go. She looked up at him with sleepy eyes; and yawned again shaking her head slightly and putting it back down to try and go to sleep.
"Why are you leaving?" She asked; more of a mumble. "Don't you want to stay with me? Is it becuase I'm boring? I'm sorry..." She told him waking up a bit more now as the thoughts went through her head. Even though her guardian told her she didn't have to entertain anyone; Flora still felt that she was the reason Kindle wanted to leave all of a sudden. Becuase Flora knew for a fact that she could spend a few hours here if she was having a really bad day... but then he wanted to leave all of a sudden.
She frowned up at him and stood up. She looked around the flower patch; and wondered why anyone would want to leave this place. "w-w-well if you're gonna go... I geuss... I should go home too then... Mommy probably wonders where I am...." She looked up at Kindle but he looked almost like he was afraid of her... had she done something bad? "I'm sorry if I did something bad...."
