Yellow and green butterflies danced in the sky around a flourescent youth. Though his paws were nimble and quick, they lacked the weightless grace of his partners. Try as he might, Mojito could never make himself look as beautiful as they did.
Alot of idea plagued him. For one, his new pack. He technically hadn't joined yet, but it was much his in spirit, even if he lacked a title. And that was it; the other.
He slowly came to a halt and mused as he watched the butterflies play. What rank would he be?

Koka stepped lightly, her head down, dazzling with the eyes of a huntress. The white nose twitched, pulling up scents, hearing sounds of scurrying rodents and air-bound birds.
Suddenly, the seriousness broke and Koka gave a small laugh, moving forward, but her eyes were still alert. Despite being simply huntress, she was being trained as the leader of her clan. Her political mind was a strong one...
But she wasn't ready yet. She knew she would have to lead the clan soon. Her body was ready, her heart was not. She was simply glad she didn't have to take on a mate to become Rubani.
A small sigh - she would be ready in time. Mentally, she steeled her nerves and relaxed further.
Oh? Her gaze landed upon a white and faintly green dog. "Hello," She called, stepping closer to the unfamiliar male. She, at least, hadn't seen him herself.
Was he pack? He seemed comfortable in the pack lands at least.

Mojito turned around to see who had called out to him. She was young, with a pelt that looked like a river running through dry land. "Hello." He smiled easily.
Rising onto his paws, he closed the gap between them with a light jog. "Did you know about them, the butterflies? This must be a truly special place for so many of them to stay."

Koka gave a small smile, gazing at the winged insects she would chase as a small pup. She gave a small chuckle. "Yes, I used to chase them about. I never wanted to catch one though," Koka shook her head.
No, they were far too pretty.
Ruby eyes turned back to the white male and she gave a smile. "This... it is a truly special place. I could not imagine living anywhere else."
There was also the fact that she had only been out of the pack once or twice with her mother or Ziwa. The Outside was a scary place as a pup.
Koka gave a closed-eyes smile. "I'm Koka - Maji'kukoka that is. And you are?" She asked as politely as she could.

Mojito's tail swayed lazily behind him as his eyes followed the little bugs. "They say if you touch a butterflies wing it will never fly again. Their beautiful, but far too delicate for my tastes." He smiled. All they did was flutter and tease, but you could never really play with them, lest they die.
The young adult tilted his ears back sheepishly and looked down at his paws. "Nice to meet you. I'm Mojito. I guess you could say that I'm a new recruit." He laughed nervously, then shut his mouth with a snap.

"Yeah," Koka said in an soft voice, looking up at one of the butterflies - one that had floated close to her face before moving off again after realizing she wasn't a plant. She gave a soft smile and looked back towards the male.
"Nice to meet you, as well, Mojito," Koka gave a small nod of courtesy to the male. "New Recruit? I thought I hadn't seen you before." Koka shifted a bit. The pack was closely knit after all.
"Do you hold a position yet?" She figured he did - new recruit after all. Perhaps he was a Mwindaji as she was, but he hadn't been in her party. Or maybe he was a Mlezi like her mother or some of her brothers and sisters.
She didn't know him before, either way.

Butterflies temporarily forgotten, Mojito watched her reaction tensely. He as much figured that not everyone in the pack would accept him with open paws like Uru had, but that made him all the more determined for her to do so.
Then that damnable question popped up. "Urrrm..." His ears flipped back, his eyes wandering off. "Not...not yet. I don't really know what to pick."
It was embarrassing, to say the least, but it bugged him. This would be the position he held for possibly the rest of his life. His legacy would depend on it!

The small female gave a crooked half-smile in curiosity. Well, she had grown up in the pack. He was... really new though. She tended to meet the new recruits weeks after they had settled into their new ranks and responsibilities. "I guess that's fine..."
She tilted her head a bit to one side. "It'll probably come to you soon enough. Perhaps I can help... I'm being trained in clan politics," Koka shifted nervously.
She didn't know everything, but she knew a lot of the ranks and how they worked. In her clan, anyways. All clans were different, her mother had said.

"Really?" Mojito tilted his head to the side. Why was she being trained? It seemed odd to him, that someone with a position already should have to go through that, but maybe it was a full time gig? Who knew. Packs were weird.
He shifted around to face her and took a deep breath. "Okay, I can tell you what I don't want. I'm not a fighter. At all. Won't do it." He stated it plainly, though not bluntly. In all his years, never had he voluntarily shed blood or started a fight, and really, he didn't want to now. He'd rather just pack up, and leave the way he came.

"Mlinzi are the pack's only fighters, as guards, though we haven't had to defend ourselves from anyone yet - so we can eliminate that." Koka gave a pause. Shifting on her paws. "Mwindaji only hunt, though they would fight too, if needed, I think," she stated.
She shook her head. "That keeps a lot of ranks open. Are you fond of pups?" She questioned suddenly. That would pull two more ranks from the list or narrow it down to two.

Mojito pondered, then shook his head. "I am, but I haven't the patience to deal with them all the time. Thats a little more responsibility than what I'm used to." And it was true; he'd avoided mating in the first place because he wasn't ready to become a father, and now the idea of watching some one elses pups didn't sit well with him.
"How about something....I don't know, entertaining?"

"Entertainment is subjective, I think. Mother believes watching children is fun, but I'd rather not," She gave a small laugh. "I'd rather hunt, or work out problems - that's what I find fun," she told him.
"What do you find entertaining - that might help you find your rank," he tiled her head to one side, and her ears were perched forward in attentiveness. It would help - a lot.

"Hrm." He pondered over that tidbit of information curiously. He'd never thought of that kind of work to be fun, but it did make sense. Not that he wanted to try it anytime soon.
Mojito turned back to her, place a hand on his chest and pointing to her repetitively. "This. I like talking and sharing things, ideals and concepts. I'm always looking to learn more."

"Hmm... Perhaps a Diwani then?" She shifted. He wasn't part of a clan, so she didn't know if that would work. She wondered for a moment if there was one for clanless folk, but couldn't think of one.
"They're council-men and women who share their ideas with the pack to help improve it," she said with a smile. It was similar to what he spoke of. "Paroko-ae are similar to Diwani, but they simply advise one person, mostly leaders in their clans or the Sheikh or Mkuu... Then Paroko-te are teachers, so that could work too..."

"That sounds like an idea, but..." Mojito pondered. He wasn't ready to commit to anything at the moment, and still he strived for an answer. "How about I ponder on it for a while? You've been a lot of help, but there's someone I want to talk with it about before I decide. At least now I have a starting block."
His little mud pup would tell him exactly what one of Koka's ideas were best. "Actually, I think I'll go find her now." He dipped his head in respect to the female and started to trot off, then thought better of it and stopped. "Thank you, Koka! May we meet again." Then he broke off into a run to find the pup.
