It had been a few weeks since they had arrived at their new home - his new home - and Glacier thought he was settling in nicely. It was a pretty decent place to live once you got used to how things worked and not really having anything else to compare life too that hadn't been very hard for Glacier to do.
The arrival of Thealia's pups had changed things a bit - and Glacier still wondered just why they had gone from four to two - had something happened to the missing pups? He wasn't sure but it did worry him a bit and he was currently chewing his lip fretfully and staring into the water of a nearby stream in an attempt to figure things out. He was slightly worried that he might be fussed at for not doing some chore or another - but it was rare that he got away from all of the pack members and he had chosen to take advantage of this alone time rather then squander it by returning swiftly.

Penthesilea padded along the warn trail that lead to the stream looking for the wayward pup Glacier. His scent was relatively fresh as she walked along which would make finding him less of a chore. He had been adjusting quite well to lift in the pack sticking close to Iosef during his duties to learn everything he could. At other time she would spend time with him if she were free and try to teach him things that male pups were often denied in Antianeira.
Spotting the pup sitting at the waters edge Penthesilea slowly walked up to him. Lowering herself onto her haunches beside him she glanced over at Glacier for a moment and then looked out at the water. "Is something bothering you?" He seemed to be concentrating on something, perhaps a thought or maybe he was just trying to spot a fish in the stream.

Glacier looked up at Pen as she joined him by the stream - carefully gauging her expression to see if she were displeased with him for straying - she didn't seem to be, or at least if she was, she was keeping it well hidden from him. In any case she had asked him what he was thinking about and Glacier furrowed his brow slightly as he tried to gather his thoughts.
"Well...yes it's just that" He paused somewhat unsure about how to continue, he finally decided that he might as well just blurt it out "I was..wondering what happened to Thealia's other puppies..I mean one day there were four of them and then there were only two...Did something happen to them? Were they taken?" Having been an orphan of sorts Glacier was somewhat troubled by the thoughts of a puppy being left alone somewhere like he had been - it had been awful and he certainly didn't want someone else sharing the same fate.

Penthesilea had been worried that one day this question would come up. Surely he would notice that the pups were missing and would eventually wonder why. The answer was simple and complicated. But here in Antianeira the truth was always told even if it may hurt another. Moving her eyes from the water down to the blue pup Penthesilea let out a small sigh.
"You know that Thealia is not kinda towards males and with most of her puppies being male there was some disappointment in Thealia's life. She did not wish to raise them and would have merely abandoned them in the woods if I hadn't have stepped in." She paused for a moment to let those words soak in before continuing. "So to keep them safe I took them to their father who lives in a pack south of here. It is a good place for them to be, they will be raised by a loving family there and most importantly be far from Thealia's wrath."

Glacier considered Penthesilea's words for a few moments - they drug up some rather painful thoughts and while he was obviously glad to hear that the puppies had been saved and sent on to a better life with their father, and Pen was swiftly becoming more then just his Saviour in the small pups eyes - those troublesome thoughts still surfaced, caused hi ears to flatten slightly and his head to duck a little as he pondered the possibility for a few moments before venturing forth in a small voice.
"Do you think my mother abandoned me because I am a boy?" He asked her though his eyes remained cast upon the water, how terrible would it be to know you were a disappointment in your own mothers life from the very moment you were born? How shameful - he already sometimes wished he'd been born a girl and if Pen said it might be the reason for his mother's disapearence - well that would certainly drive home that shame. He supposed he'd just have to prove useful and worthwhile regardless of his gender...but it seemed such a very hard path to take.

Her eyes narrowed slightly as she watched his reaction to the news of the other puppies. She knew he would be somewhat disappointed that they wouldn't be around to become him friends and help him out with his chores but what she had done was truly for the best. Her maw fell open in shock at his question but she quickly snapped it shut.
"Nonsense!" She exclaimed, though if she ever did find out who his mother was Penthesilea would certainly give her a piece of her mind about this whole situation. "Don't you ever think that. You're mother is not like Thealia." Though to be perfectly honest Penthesilea couldn't say that for certain. "Sometimes pups become abandoned for a number of reasons but gender is not one of them. Leaving you was wrong but you must not dwell on those thoughts."

Glacier was pretty sure Penthesilea only said these things to make him feel better - but it was hard to take her words as truth when there were still so many unknowns about his past. But he was grateful to the queen wolf - without her he would have no doubt perished in the wood and despite the fact that he was male and lesser in her pack she seemed to care about him - even if she didn't outwardly show it all the time.
"It's alright - I don't dwell on them often" He told her "Bracken and Lichen going missing just brought them all back" He admired and then with a quick glance around to make sure no one was around she sidled closet to the pale queen and nuzzled her leg "Your a better mom then my other one was anyways"

Though she wasn't entirely convinced that Glacier believed what she told him he at least seemed a bit more at ease now. "I would have told you what was happening to them but I feared if I left them for even a short time with their mother I would have nothing to return to." Thealia certain would not be winning any mother of the year awards this time or any other time she had pups. In fact Penthesilea did hope that the green wolf would reconsider next time she saw a male that could serve that very purpose.
Her heart melted as Glacier rubbed against her leg and spoke those words. The smile that crossed her maw could not be hidden and she lowered her head giving him a lick on the cheek. "And I could not have asked for a better son." This was the first time Penthesilea even said those words to Glacier or any other pack member. They may not be bonded through blood but she had raised him so far and if that didn't make him her son than she didn't know what would.

Glacier gave an involuntary shudder when Pen spoke of thealia and what she would have done to her pups - the green wolf was pretty to look at with her swirls of pink and bright green, you wouldn't think she was as mean as she was by looks alone. Why...she was scarier then Pol in truth even though Pol looked the part of vicious female to the hilt.
Perhaps there was a lesson in there somewhere, if there was Glacier would have to reflect upon it later because his thoughts right now were taken over with pride as Penthesilea called him son. He had never dared to hope she would ever look at him like that - and even as her son he knew his place in the pack was not much more then any other male..but her words meant more to him then any sort of gained reputation from the others. He didn't even think he would care if she never said them again - he'd heard them once and he would always know. That was the important bit and h beamed up at her.
"Is the dad nice?" He asked suddenly curious about the green pups father and wishing to change the subject before Pen changed her mind about the son bit or someone came along ad ruined their time together. He'd already learned that when in front of the others Pen was cool towards him outwardly. Best to just cut moments off while they were still perfect and he could remember them.

Penthesilea sat quiet for a couple of moments looking out at the stream before turning her attention back to Glacier. "In truth I did not meet the father. Though the Alpha of that pack said that they would be well taken care of for their pack is a sanctuary for the lost, shy and wanderers and I believed her whole heartedly that that is the case." She wasn't as doubtful as other wolves would have been in that situation but Chivosi had seemed terribly concerned by the pups situation and Penthesilea found it hard to believe that all the emotion was faked.
"I plan to go check on the pups in a few days and you would be more than welcome to come along and see them if you wish." Perhaps seeing that the pups were safe would make him worry less about these things.

Glacier considered that for a few moments - so she hadn't met the father. That was a bit worrisome - but Glacier had faith in Penthesilea and if she said this other Alpha would take care of them then he believed her. "I bet he's green.." Glacier mentioned in an off handed way as though the pup was thinking out loud more then really expecting a confirmation of this guess.
Pen's next words however drew him back into the conversation and he perked up tag wagging slightly in excitement "Can I? I would love to!" He exclaimed hopefully - a trip to visit the pups at another pack. How terribly exciting! And he would have the entire trip there and back alone with Pen - when she didn't have to worry about the other's seeing her be kind to him!

"I'm sure he's very green." She said with a slight chuckle. Thealia would surely have picked a male with a coat that compliments hers and since non of the pups had any markings to suggest otherwise it was pretty obvious the male would have been green.
"Of course you can come along." Penthesilea smiled at Glacier. Seeing the pups as well as how another pack ran could certainly do him some good, plus she had to admit it would be nice to focus on him for a while. Glancing over her should for a moment Penthesilea looked back down at Glacier and then playfully batted him in the shoulder with her paw before glancing out at the stream innocently.

Glacier was bubbling over in excitement after Penthesilea agreed that he could come along on this trip of her's - it would be so much fun and he was sure he could easily keep up. He'd managed to keep up during the long trip here hadn't he? And this time he wouldn't drag along an antler with him!
He was in fact so wrapped up in imaginary adventures that might happen during the trip that he failed to notice Pen look over her shoulder - or the movement of her paw until it smacked him in the shoulder and sent him tumbling head over heels into the stream shallows.
Sputtering a bit he regained his feet and bounced towards Pen with a playful growl trying to splash her with the wave his jump would cause.

Penthesilea really couldn't help but to burst out in laughter. She knew the stream wasn't deep enough to be concerned for his safety though if he did show any signs of struggle she certainly would have jumped in after him. But when he got to his feet and let out the growl she stood lowering her front end down in a playful manner. Ignoring the water that splashed towards her legs Penthesilea curled her lips back showing off her fangs, though there was no real threat behind the display.
"You and your army cannot defeat me mighty Glacier." She said to him with a slight snarl. It was good to have some time to just relax like this with him as it didn't happen often enough.

Glacier was well aware that being allowed to play with Penthesilea would be a sought after privilege for the packs pups - that he was allowed to do so, not even blood of the pack - and a male no less made it more so. The fact that it was a privilege however did not stop him from throwing his heart and soul into the exercise, playing with an intensity that gave the impression that the blue pup did not wish to waste even a moment of this precious time.
Growling his own challenge in return "Surrender while you have the chance!" he told her - although he didn't give her much of a chance to do that at all, launching himself forward to snap playfully at her ears.
