There were times when Spenta tired of the mundane scenery that the rogue lands had to offer. When this happened, he would tread lightly on the borders of various prides, careful to never be caught outright trespassing. Spenta didn't desire to fight on someone elses land, but he figured the further away he could get from the heart of the rogue lands, the farther away he'd be from his brother.
He found a strange, low-lying tree with a squat trunk; it looked to be the perfect place for a rest. Spen's stomach was still full from a stray, wounded buzzard he'd found and dispatched. Resting in the meager shade the tree provided, Spenta stretched his legs out in front of him and yawned.

After hunting his part for the day, Mwovu desired to not dwell within the caves, but continue to stretch his legs. As entertaining as the caves could be (especially in startling young ones), other times the warmth of the sun was more comforting than the cool caves of the Mtango'bui.
His eyes caught movement; something, someone light-coated. It always struck out to him more than a dark coat, perhaps because he himself wasn't as pale as this creature. He creeped over, the lion always having to seem just a bit odd to everyone he met. Life was more entertaining that way.

Spen inhaled deeply; the acrid scent of his brother wasn't evident on the slight breeze that carried. It would be a peaceful rest. Wait... there was an unfamiliar scent. Spenta groaned and rose to his feet, peering about him.
It was then that he spotted the male inching towards him. Spen's crimson gaze narrowed slightly; the other lion didn't appear to be aggressive, but then again, Spen wasn't the best at judging the character of others. He had a sickening way of hoping for the best.
"Hello?" he greeted, the pitch of his voice rising in a question.

"A greeting with a growl," Mwovu grinned. He knew that the growl was much before the greeting, but it was always fun to twist a little bit of reality to make it more exciting.
"I apologize, but your demeanor and coat was too much to resist, and so I came to ask about yourself," he continued to grin, plopping his rump down on the ground with a thump. It was obvious that he had no intention of harm, but that meant physically. Sometimes pulling up dark stories hurt in a much different way.
"Mwovu is my name, and when I am not hunting, I like to collect stories. Lots of stories, if the time permits."

Spen was instantly charmed by the other lions seemingly easy-going demeanor. It was such a refreshing change from his suffocating brother.
"Mwovu," Spenta had to return his grin, "I am Spenta."
Stories, he'd said? Spenta had a handful or ten of such things; they weren't stories that could be shared with new acquaintances, or so Spen thought. "I enjoy hearing stories," he replied slowly. "They can be a nice escape for the weary troubles the world has to offer, don't you agree?"

Mwovu nodded, "Alright, Spenta," he repeated, the smile fading from his face as he studied the lion. Yes, normally you couldn't really tell anything about someone just from looking at them. Mwovu was an example of that in some ways.
"My pride is nothing but stories," he mentioned casually. "Though, I fear most of them like the happy ending stories. Those are too far from reality for me. I enjoy the ones that don't end quite so perfectly." His grin crept back on his face, though his tail flopped around like a happy little thing. Mwovu himself was full of conflicting things.

Spenta couldn't stop the wry chuckle that burst from his throat. "I have more tragic stories than I'd care to acknowledge, Mwovu." Sometimes it seemed as though his life had been nothing BUT sick tragedies in one way or another. Love lost, brothers at war... he could go on and on, truly.
Spenta relaxed a bit, moving to a seated position. He was very glad to have the company of another lion, one that seemed to be eager to listen and to talk.
"And do you share stories that you collect, Mwovu?"

Mwovu's ears perked up. "Oh, really." Well, then Mwovu was just going to have to get at least one of these stories out of this fellow. Oh, the tales he could weave~! Mwovu was a fan of taking truth and adding just a bit to it to make it all the more dramatic. He had a feeling that this is exactly what he needed.
"I share them within the pride," he replied bluntly. "If one chose to share it with someone outside of us, well, that is their choice. I enjoy mentioning the better ones only with my pride, exclusively."

Spen nodded slowly, "A story of love found and lost, a family torn by responsibilities and strife." He paused, noticing the other lions interested expression. It was hard for Spen to get excited about telling the story he was now thinking about, one that he'd never told anyone.
"I would just hate to bore you with such a story, Mwovu." If the lion asked to hear it, Spenta decided he would share. If not, well, there was nothing wrong with a little companionship for the evening, now was there?
"It might be a story one could learn a lesson from, I imagine."

Mwovu snapped his mouth, mildly irritated at his one comment. "I do not get bored," he clarified. The smile returned, if only smaller. "You could only bore me if nothing happened; even those that end well are alright in their own mind, I just prefer the tragic ones."
His tail curled, his mood rising again. "Usually my stories are passed to young ones, to remind them to not be too reckless when they are still young and naive," he grinned. The way he stressed reckless was more harsh than need be.
"I will gladly listen," he encouraged Spenta, comfortable where he was.

Spenta chuckled softly, offering a nod to Mwovu. "Many, many years ago I met a lioness." He paused, memories flooding him, some good, some bad. All were painful to think about now. "We were quite fond of one another, we shared a special time together that resulted in her becoming round with my cubs." It was one of the fondest memories he had, really, of his life so far. He was a father, and though he'd never see his cubs again, he knew they were well taken-care of.
Now a frown scored his face, "My brother, his name is Angra, is a most foul lion. He seems to thrive on death and dissent, and I left this lioness to spare her from such a beast. Unfortunately, he found her despite my attempts to keep him from doing so. Their first meeting, she was thick with pregnancy." Spenta fell silent as he was lost in his memories, a pained expression on his features.

Mwovu's ears perked forward, listening intently. He tried to not look too excited about it, since it wasn't a good story. Well, at least to the lion he was speaking to, who was telling the story. TO Mwovu's mind, he was already wondering how he could spin it into something more.
He wasn't a 'good' lion, either, but nothing ever got past stories. He liked being a gentleman on the outside, as it let him gather what he wanted most; stories.
He nodded, encouraging the other to continue. "Take your time," he said softly, as if to comfort Spenta.

Spenta continued at Mwovu's urgings, "The next time they met, my brother brought me to her. Kizuka, the lioness, had been searching for me to tell me that I would be a father. She also carried with her other news."
Spenta unsheathed a claw, idly flicking at a small pebble that had caught his attention. He wasn't sure why he was telling this story, no good would come of it; there was no life lesson to be learned here. Nonetheless, he carried on.
"She told me that she was now the leader of her pride, bound to another lion now."

It took a turn that he wasn't quite expecting. Well, that was quite alright. That meant that this story was a little more unique, and not something that the young ones (or whomever he told it too), would be able to predict. Those were the best stories, as they always kept them enraptured.
"It sounds like she had no choice," he replied quietly. Hmhmhmmm, this was enjoyable.

Spenta snorted to himself; yes, she'd had little choice, but it left a sour taste in his mouth nonetheless.
"At the time she agreed to such duties, she had no idea she was pregnant with my cubs." It infuriated him to a point, really, that he'd never know his children. "I was permitted to stay until she'd birthed them safely, and then I was escorted from her den. I've never met them." His voice carried a bitter tone.
"I blame my brother for it, really."
