Quote:
For those that are just starting to read this or are already reading it... The Swimming Pool and the Melting Pot take place on two different days.

It was one of the days she'd read to the tots at the library, gone for her lesson in using her daggers, had a small lunch, only to return to the library for her lesson in sign language...

Living on the border of Gambino and Barton down near the beach meant she had to catch a bus in the early morning hours to get to Durem (where the library was that she preferred). Plus, she had to walk several blocks... Not that she minded any of it especially now that it was all grouped together.

Now that she had completed her day in Durem the last thing she wanted to do with go straight home and be 'surrounded' by two tots who just didn't know when to stop.

She had considered going to Balcombe Curiosities to see Kay, however, it was only him he wanted to see and she knew that if she went there was a chance of his mother and potential customers.

Due to the long days and various places she went she had learned to carry an assortment of clothing. Thus when she found herself at the local pool she was prepared with the exception of she hated being exposed and she didn't know how to swim.

With the exception of a towel and a pair of saddles she stuffed the rest of her stuff into a rental locker. The last thing she needed was someone getting a hold of one of her dangers while she was pool side.

She tossed her towel and saddles onto the nearest chair and headed for the pool stairs. She could go one or two in and lean against the wall of the pool and be comfortable.

Had anyone she knew come to the pool they'd have a hard time, at first glance, knowing it was her. Between her being in a swimsuit that was less than modest and the recent small growth spurt (nothing to say she was leaving behind 'kid' years which drove her up the wall). About the only thing that showed that made her, her was the vines that wound themselves around and up her body.

Kay was whistling to himself while wandering the streets of Durem to head to the pool. It was getting warmer out, and ever since last summer he was pretty eager to head to the pool again. It was fun as a child to splash around in the water, but he had a feeling that now that he was a little older he could probably have some new found appreciation for the pool. Mostly because of the swim suits, though.

Along the way, he thought he saw a familiar red head...that was more or less going in the direction he was. A grin came to his lips and he followed the figure at a distance; he had a feeling she was going to the pool, and he didn't want to interrupt or startle her...yet.

Casually he did everything she did, after she did it. Paid to get in, changed into his swim trunks in the men's change rooms, shoved his clothes into a rental locker and lurked around the pool. He waited for Victoria to stand on the steps (and now he was sure it was her, but he had to admit that the strings on her back were pretty cute), and then decided it was time to actually show himself.

With little warning, the young Shaman cannon balled into the pool, far enough away from Victoria to prevent hurting her, but close enough to put her right in the splash zone. A moment or two later he broke through the surface, shaking his hair free of some water, grinning like the idiot he tended to be.

"Heya, Tori! Pretty." He said with a grin and a wave. One of the two hair loops he possessed had been cut a while back, so most of his hair was short enough to spike out at odd angles; with the exception of the second loop on the left side of his face, the human side, which had been braided today and hung down to his chest. Nahual was as displeased as ever, but he seemed to be trying to flatten himself into Kay's skull.

"The swimsuit's nice, too." He added, after looking her over.

Tori had pretty much been in her own world as she sat there. She occasionally blankly glanced to the kiddo pool or out into the actual pool... So when water hit her it thoroughly startled her. It didn't seem to come to mind at first that this was a pool and it was bound to happen.

She ran her fingers through her hair trying to make some sense of it. It just wasn't going to happen. Thus she pulled the ribbon from her hair. And from there it was even worse of a mess. It covered what part of her back wasn't in the water and the rest floated on the surface. The wet parts sticking to her skin almost gave her the appearance of a drawn rat.

The water droplets did have a pretty positive effect though that slightly countered the over all mess that was her hair.

She blinked a couple of times before looking back towards the open pool area. "What a surprise," she smiled at Kay. Had it been any one else (especially her sister) she'd have gone off the handle.

"Aren't you worried about Nahual?" She asked. She didn't move from her spot to join him... After all she didn't know how to swim. And, though there was a good portion that she could stand up in it would be foolish of her to do so in the event that something did happen.

"Shoulda been one, I tracked you for a while." Yay, he was a surprise! It meant his sloothing totally worked. Wait, who was he supposed to be worried about? "Eh? Oh, Nah, he's fine. He's used to water." Shrugging, it was clear Nahual didn't worry him much. He knew the snake better than anyone, since they were, well, one.

"And hey! You don't come to the pool to be a wall flower, c'mon, c'mon!" Reaching out, Kay's dark and scarred hands closed around Victoria's wrists, pulling her away from the steps and from the wall. He wasn't letting her go, but he certainly didn't want her to hang around the wall the entire time. He was still grinning like a mad fiend of course...how could he not? It was a great day and was steadily getting better.

"Really, really... Kay... I'm fine by the wall." Tori had a momentary look of panic. Not only was she completely exposed in her mind but well she couldn't swim. How did you tell someone you couldn't swim when well you were in the pool. She was starting to think coming was a mistake. But, this way Kay... When had she ever not been able to trust Kay.

"Kay, this really isn't a good idea..." she said with a sigh as she tried to pull them back towards the steps. "I can-" she wasn't able to finish her sentence for tripping over her own feet. She wasn't use to the water... She fell backwards, pulling Kay with her. She hadn't submerged them but well they were a little to conveniently placed.

Tori turned her face and shook her hair to cover it. She was trying to hide the red in her cheeks. This was awkward... She was in no way her normal self. Kay always was able to bring out this side in her.

Kay didn't seem to hear her attempt to get him to stop though he did hear her loud and clear. He would have stopped if he didn't know how to swim, or if they were in deeper water. But as it was? She had no excuse to be a wall flower!

"Whattre you talkin' about? It's a great i----whoa!" The sheer fact she managed to make him stumble was impressive, and on instinct he pulled her wrists forward, releasing them and quickly wrapping them around her, pulling her secure against his chest. By the time he caught her, he had already righted himself, and was standing up properly in the water, holding the apparently shy redhead against him.

"Can't swim?" He guessed with a laugh, gently loosening his grip on her now that they were both safe. Unable to resist, he leaned his head down to press a kiss against her temple, breathing in the scent of her sweet smelling hair. "I can teach ya, if you wanna learn! Swimming's great fun." He prattled on, like he'd done nothing at all.

After taking a moment to use her fingers to comb her hair back away from her face she tilted her head and looked up and into his eye. "Yeah... um, no... but thank you," she smiled.

"You're quite the gentle man... rescuing a damsel in distress," she whispered as she ran a finger across his bare chest. After a moment of being idle she stood on her tip toes and kissed him on the nose.

"But, alas I'm content to just sit where no one notices me- ANY of me." She looked down at the ribbon in her hand and sighed. There was no way she was going to put this mess up now. "I really don't understand why people go out in their nickers in public in the first place... It is entirely... Just completely wrong."

WHAT? How could she not want to know how to swim?! Swimming was awesome! Totally awesome! Oh well...that suddenly didn't matter anymore. The finger against his chest made him shiver, and he grinned when she kissed his nose. This contact thing was fun! Still, he was holding her in the water, a few feet away from the steps she had been content with clinging to.

"If you didn't want to go swimming in a bathing suit in public, why did you come here?" Kay asked honestly, the young man gently tugging on her, keeping her close to him with her head over the water...but slowly moving backwards, to the somewhat deeper water. "Not like anyone forced you here, I didn't see yer Dad or sister...so what was the point?" Truth be told he didn't care about her answer to that particular question; either way he was somehow going to get her to swim. Her refusal just made him want to work harder.

"Soooo...what would happen if I let you go, then?" He asked innocently, though his eye was absolutely glinting with mischief. They were nearly in the middle of the pool; Kay could stand and keep his head above the water...but it was doubtful that she could at this depth.

"The day started with me reading to the tots, then going for dagger training, and then going back to the library to learn sign language. I wasn't ready to go home... My sister's'," she emphasized the 's', "give me such a damn headache. I love them... but..." she sighed.

"I thought about going to see you but I ended up here instead. I normally just sit and sun but I thought today I'd just sit in the water for a little bit instead..." she had talked so much she hadn't realized he had managed to get her a good distance away from the stairs.

"I'd ******** sink that's what," her eyes suddenly went wide with fear at the thought of him letting go of her. She really tried to curve her swearing in public but it slipped more often than not.

She scrambled a bit to cling to him. She wasn't about to give him any opportunity to let go of her. "You know we could abandon this idea and go to dinner instead. I know I said I wasn't hungry... But seriously..." she was trying to worm her way out of this.

"My brothers do the same thing." Kay nodded sagely, completely bypassing all the extra hard work she had to do. His day wasn't nearly that busy, and he could ask why she was doing all that later. As far as he could tell she didn't have daggers on her in the pool, so he figured that was also a topic that could wait.

"Well, it's a good thing I ended up here too then." Clearly, he was just trying to keep the conversation going until he could get far enough out that she'd have to swim from him to get back. He was also waiting for the moment of realization to hit her, and when it finally did...well, he probably enjoyed it a little too much.

Laughing loudly, probably a little too loudly because, well, she was practically face to face with him, he kept his balance as she scrambled around to lock on him, keeping both of their heads above the water. "You're so cute when you panic." He laughed out, hugging her tightly against him. The swearing caught him off guard, but he did that too...and besides, he figured the situation called for it.

"Nah, I'm not hungry. I'd rather swim." Kay commented innocently, having stopped his insane laughing fit. "But if you wanna go eat, by all means, swim back."

Tori hated to be this helpless. She needed to take control, get a hold of her self... and get out of this 'mess'. She took several deep breaths. 'So, he'll stop if I get from point b back to point a.' She thought to herself. Her eyes were darting back and forth... Then she saw it, a raft. She remembered how it kept her sisters afloat. 'He never said how.' she thought.

"Peace of cake," she chuckled. Her confidence was completely back and it showed in the sultry look she gave him.

Her legs were still completely wrapped around him as she let go with her arms. She was completely prepared for being submerged. She took those few brief seconds to grab the forgotten about raft. Once she had a good hold on the raft she let go with her legs. And, with everything she had she pulled herself onto the raft.

Next she reached for a man's shoulder. Making it look like she'd bumped into him. "Sorry," she was apologetic as possible even though she wasn't sorry at all. This was totally not something she'd do on regular basis.

With a nod of his head he pushed her forward. She sighed relief that it was in the direction of the stairs... 'Almost there,' she thought as she reached for the railing.

Kay watched in amusement while she tried to grab the raft nearby, and laughed when she finally let go of him to climb onto it instead. He knew what she was up to of course, but he still just wanted to watch her make the attempt. He didn't say how...but that didn't mean that he couldn't change the rules either. By the time she bumped into that man, Kay had started to move, and full out swam after her once the raft went gliding through the water.

Before her fingers could touch the railing, Kay managed to grab onto the end of the float, and after planting his feet on the ground and mentally thanking the shallow water, pulled her back, away from it. Next he grabbed her ankle when it was close enough, tugging lightly and releasing her to quickly grab her waist instead, pulling her off of the raft and back into the water.

...When he might have accidentally not caught her in time before her head submerged. Maybe. Regardless she would only have been under for a second, two tops before he hoisted her back up, happily holding her against his chest again.

"Cheat." He accused with a laugh after she recovered from her potential trip under the water. "Swim back, no floatation devices, using your own arms and legs." He challenged, humming a merry little tune and dragging the both of them back into the deeper waters.

When Victoria had been 'captured' once more she made a little humph sound. Even though she wouldn't admit it openly she was glad to be back in Kay's arms.

"Just arms and legs," she muttered. She was starting to realize that it wasn't the water she was scared of it was being exposed... She was already exposed so what else was there to loose if she tried.

She thought back to the few times she'd gone with the tots to pool and how they had learned to swim. When it came down to it there wasn't anything really to it... Just flail your arms like crazy.

After taking one last breath her eyes closed as she let go of Kay. Sinking was an odd sensation especially so once she opened her eyes and watched the world slip away from her.

After a moment or two she started to do her best to get her head back above water. She flailed around for a good bit. She really didn't feel like she was making much progress. Okay, so her sisters made it look a whole lot easier.

She wasn't going to let this get the best of her. Nor was she about to find some means to get her through it for Kay to make her try again.

And, some where in all of that she actually managed to get her head back above water. However, she was still panicky and without second thought she reached out for Kay grabbing the rim of his shorts. It wasn't intentional it was one of those first thing you grab moments.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 24, 2010 8:25 am

Kay laughed when she muttered; it sounded like defeat to him, and that was awesome in his books. He liked winning, but he would have had fun with this either way. He let her go when she seemed to want to try on her own, letting her sink but tilting his head down to watch her like a hawk. He was just about to submerge himself to collect her...when she grabbed his shorts! Oh crap!

"Whoa there!" He called out, taking a deep breath and pushing himself under the water to save from getting pantsed in the pool. Oh, and to save Victoria, too. His dark hands found hers, peeling her fingers away from his clothing before holding her, pushing back up to the surface with her.

"Ever heard of baby steps, eh?" He laughed, holding her a safe distance away so he could shake his hair free of some water...like a dog. "Also, word to the wise, pantsing me ain't gonna make me wanna let you cheat." Winking at her, he tilted his head, trying to figure out where to start.

"Ever ridden a bike before, 'Tori?"

"What the ******** does riding a bike have to do with swimming?" Victoria huffed. She was totally out of breath and feeling extremely defeated... She'd never felt this way before and she down right hated it. "But, no... no I've never ridden a bike and never wanted to. Just like I really didn't want to swim. But for you I tried. I failed. Now please... please," she looked up and into his eye. "I'd do anything for you, but trying that again... just no," despite clinging to a firm figure she was shaking.

Reluctantly she only held onto him with one hand so that she could use the other to do something with her mess of hair.
