Delilah walked over the open field, looking around for a place to set up. She had a basket in one hand, and a teddy bear in the other. She looked about and then spotted a nice tree to set up under. She had been let out of the grasp of her father to go visit her new nieces and nephews, but she took a new route and decided to do something better. She walked over to the tree and set down the teddy bear very carefully at the base of the tree. She set down the basket and pulled out a light blue blanket and spread it out over the grass. Delilah then set up all the little plastic plates and opened the basket all the way to reveal sandwiches and juice boxes that she had brought with her. She ran over and picked the teddy bear back up and hopped back onto the blanket and sat down, her mask covered any expression shown through her mouth as she set the teddy bear back down in front of a plate and then set a sandwich on the plate. Nodding, she pulled out a book from the basket and began to read it. She was really enjoying being outside for once. Delilah usually was forced to stay inside as her illness tended to prevent her from have the energy to play, but today she was feeling exceptionally well, or at least better than usual. She let out a cough as she then proceed to go back to reading her book, playing with her hair a little as she did so.

Enosio had only taken his eyes off of him for a second, but it was more than enough time for River to have slipped away, unknowingly leaving his adoptive father in a state of panic.

River wandered over the hills, past the park, until he came to a stop when he laid eyes on Delilah and her picnic set up. He glanced back over his shoulder, no longer able to see Eno... Well, he figured that since he wasn't with Eno, he should at least be with someone... That was why his daddy hired a babysitter for while he was at work, right? Satisfied with the explanation, River hobbled down the hill over to Delilah.

"What'cha doin?" He approached her slowly, not wanting to startle her or anything since she was reading. He'd done that to his father on multiple occasions, and while it was funny, it wasn't the best way to meet someone.

Delilah had been so consumed by her book that she hadn't even noticed someone walk up to her. As she heard a voice, her eyes whipped upward to meet his gaze. She stared at him with big green eyes and said nothing. Delilah was unsure on how to react with people, since the last time she had tried to make friends, she had hurt them badly. She was reminded that Daemin had explained how she could no longer affect humans, but were these special people able to be infected to. She didn't know yet, and she was scared to take her chances. After a few moments, she realized she had done nothing but stare at him for a while. After she'd drive him off and lose the opportunity to finally make a friend, she grabbed a sandwich out of the basket and held it up to him. By that time, she had closed the book and set it down next to herself, waiting to see what the boy would do.

Maybe talking to her hadn't been such a good idea after all... River stared back at Delilah with his own wide blue eyes, wondering if he'd made a horrible mistake or not. That was until she got the sandwich out and offered it to him. "For me?" His face lit up with a smile and he took it gently and then sat down.

"M'names River... What's yours?" He hadn't quite caught on that she might not be able to speak, but even when he figured it out, River would likely just find a way around it.

If Delilah had not been wearing her medical mask, it probably would have shown her frowning. She wanted to speak, but she was too scared. Talking was not her forte, as she blinked at him with furrowed brows. She searched for any way to tell him what her name was without speaking. She then realized that the basket was hers, so that meant it was labeled on the inside of the lid. She pointed to the lid as a small embroidered tag was attached on the inside, displaying her name in a lovely cursive. Delilah bit her lip beneath the mask, it was hard to meet you people, and she never expected it to be like this. She wanted to tell him a lot about herself, but she simply couldn't muster up the courage yet to speak to him. She hoped he may pick up on that sound, else she'd have to continue the conversation staring at him blankly.

River stared at the tag, taking a moment to figure out what it said. He was still struggling with reading cursive since it was harder than printed text. "De... Deli...lah. Delilah?" He grinned, looking to her for approval. "Oh.. you c'n't talk, huh?" He frowned a little, but shrugged his shoulders. "Thassokay. I c'n talk." He nodded, once more grinning widely.

She nodded in confirmation as he said her name and seemed to smile beneath the mask she wore. She was happy to be making a new friend, as long as she could eventually muster up the courage to speak, everything would probably turn out okay. She motioned for him to sit down and pulled out two juice boxes, offering one to River. Delilah then found enough courage to try to say something. "...r-...r-....riiiiivuuur...." she then stared at him, waiting for a response or a reaction to her speaking. She began to blush, embarrassed at her inability to speak well as her eyes darted to the side.

River happily took the juice box and then peeled the straw off of it. He poked it through the hole in the top and took a few sips. "Yeah, River." He nodded happily. "Issit hard fer you to speak? Y'dun have too." He frowned a bit, his daddy had told him that he shouldn't push people to do things that were hard for them if they didn't want to do it.

Delilah began to smile beneath her mask as it showed through her eyes. She had said it right, and she felt accomplished that he wasn't making fun of her for her bad speech. She looked at him curiously as she then leaned into her words, giving it extra effort as she spoke. "...i c-can...t-.....t-talk..." she stated as a matter of fact. Delilah seemed concerned at first but then shook it off as she offered River a sandwich. "s-sand-dwich?" she asked, holding it out to him with a smile in her eyes once more.

"Oh, okay." River grinned, nodding a little. He felt relieved that she was okay with talking, he wasn't too keen on guessing things all the time. "Oh, thanku.. I dun... have anythin' t'share tho." He took the sandwich and frowned a little. She was being awfully nice by offering him things but he had nothing to give back.

"It's.. o-okay... I have p-plenty." she responded slowly. It was becoming a little easier to get the courage to continue talking, but it didn't change that her stuttering was very prominent. She seemed happy that she finally had a real friend for the short time being. Looking over to the teddy bear sitting patiently in front of a plate with a sandwich on it, she then squeaked a little. "..I almost.. f-...f-forgot. Th-this is R-......R-......." she paused for a moment, closing her eyes to help force the stubborn words from her mouth. "R-Roosev-velt.." she stammered lightly as she then looked to River and blushed. She felt like he might think she was a freak for not being able to speak right. "..i-i'm s-..s-sorry.."

River nibbled at his sandwich while she spoke, nodding his head a little. She must really have a hard time speaking... Kind of like how his Dadda had a hard time being around "humans." He looked to the teddy bear and smiled. "Nice t'meetyu Roosevelt." He giggled a bit and looked to Delilah. "Sorry fer what?" He blinked, not comprehending that she would probably be upset about her inability to speak like a "normal" person could.

[Since he's technically ready to grow I think I might start letting him behave older than he really is...]

Delilah frowned slightly. "..sorry th-that I can't t-talk straight..... I n-never went out a lot.... so I n-never learned to t-talk properly... s-sorry..." she explained, her eyes darting to the ground as she felt embarrassed about the way she spoke. Delilah was intelligent, and knew it, but her speech could never reflect the knowledge she had learned over the years of reading books and nothing else. She sighed a bit, then took up a sandwich and placed it down on a plate in front of her. Pausing for a moment as she stared at the sandwich, she then removed her face mask and placed it next to her as she then picked up the sandwich and took a bite out of it. "Th-there's more.. if you'd l-like some.." she offered, taking another bite with a smile creeping back to her face.

"Oh... thassokay, my Dadda says that some peeple jus' can't do thin's like othur peeple can." He smiled a bit and nibbled at his sandwich, not at all minding Delilah's awkward speech. He could understand her for the most part, so it was fine. "Oh, thanku." The smile grew wider and he took a sip of his juice. "What'cha doin' out here by yerself...?"

Delilah smiled at River's acceptance of her despite her awkward speech. She looked to him curiously. "..D-daddy said I could go out t-today... since I was f-feeling better.." she answered with a frown. This was the first time she had been out on her own, but her father trusted her to be okay, and if anything were to happen he was sure she'd come back quickly. She had been sick for most of her childhood, and for once she was feeling much better since she had returned to the academy. "Why are y-you by yourself?" she asked in return curiously.
