Quick! Check Page 2!!

I've had this idea in my head for a sequel of sorts for FFVIII that kickstarts with an alternate ending to the game.
I don't know if I want to make it an RP, make a comic of it or both (RP it out and then make a comic of it) but that's not my dilemma right now so I'll just get on with it.

Warning!
If you haven't yet passed the game or know how it ends, I don't suggest reading parts of this!

The alternate end to FFVIII that I had in mind is after the battle against Ultimecia. Remember how Squall ended up separated from the group and slipped into the past, watching Edea accept the dying Ultimecia's powers and also kickstarting her idea of the Gardens and SeeD?
Here's where the problem starts. I've got two ideas on how this scene could've changed, both with different consequences.

The battle ends, Squall becoming separated from the group as he should.

The First Option
He ends up in front of the orphanage, yet Ultimecia does not. The sorceress, dying and defeated, somehow manages to end up elsewhere, passing on her power to another.
Squall, believing that the battle had completely done in Ultimecia, eventually returns to his appropriate time with his friends but the world as they knew it has changed. The Gardens and SeeD are no more, due to the ideals of Edea never seeing light. The world is completely under the reign of the sorceresses and is hanging on the edge of utter ruin.

The Second Option
Squall somehow remains in the void, facing the fading Ultimecia on his own. Using the last of her failing strength, she latches onto the unsuspecting Squall and forces her powers unto him, uttering out "You... will know my pain... and you too... shall suffer... as I have..." with her final breath as she collapses. Once it's over, the void fades away, revealing the front of the orphanage with it's Matron, Edea, watching as the sorceress dies before Squall. He eventually returns to his rightful time alongside his friends, the world almost the same as they had left it. The Gardens and SeeD are still around, but Squall, now weilding a power he never wanted, no longer fits in where he should...

I don't know which one to go with because I think either way would turn out pretty cool.
What do you guys think?
Plus, if you feel like it, lemme know what I should do with it (what I stated at the beginning of the post) and any suggestions for the options!

Thats... interesting.

With both options it would, at the very least, subtly alter the time loop presented in game.

For the first option, it could work. The only reason I can see for Ultimecia to have appeared at the orphanage and pass on her powers to Edea is the fact that her castle is chained to that spot, and possibly she feels a bit of recognition of Matron. Although, it could just have been that Edea got there first.

For the second option... I'm not so sure. It would be interesting to see if that could be played out, but as I understand it, only females can receive Hyne's powers. ie: Daughter of Hyne. That may only be because no male in history has ever received the powers.

I'd be interested to see these turned into an RP or a comic. If you make an RP, I would be excited to join it. 3nodding

That's a very valid point about the location. I can't argue that. xd

I remember Hyne being refered to as male, though (from that one story told in-game on the White SeeD Ship). But then again, that could've been a translation error (he/she are always commonly mistranslated.) But that tiny snippet aside, it could possible for a male to recieve them. Probably just as you said, "no male in history has ever received the powers" but it's probably not common or hasn't been tried. With option two, I figured that would make it a lot more interesting than the power being passed onto Selphie or Quistis (or Rinoa but she already had both the powers of Edea and Adel). Not to mention, Squall is the last one she sees (excluding Edea because of how I thought up the scenario).

Thanks for the feedback, Grims! I really appreciate it! 3nodding

No problem.

Yeah, Hyne is male, from what I gathered from the game. They have the story on the White SeeD ship, and the grandfather that lives next door to the Dinchts tells a story about Hyne as well.

Hyne is a male but not totally human, i think i read somewhere that only human females had the ability to house the powers without the body destroying itself, much like how women are the only ones capable of giving birth

Sort of.
The whole "only human females had the ability to house the powers without the body destroying itself" thing doesn't seem terribly right after looking back at certain events.
The veins on Edea's face, Adel's manly body, the flood of Sorceresses you fight during the Time Compression and Ultimecia's final form... That kinda seems like the body destroying itself to me, just at different extremes than others.

Well, yes, but it also extends their lives to a degree. I think what halo means to say is, it might have a much worse effect on males, to the point of after having the power for a year to maybe 5 years, the body could not handle it at all.

That makes a bit more sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

...Wow, that'd make the second option that much more intense, wouldn't it? Poor Squall's life would be on a time limit! Like a Doom counter but longer! xd

Yeah, that would make it a lot more interesting :3

Hey, guys, check out what I found (if you hadn't seen this already)! A translated part of the FF8 Ultimania about the Witches!

I read it all and it didn't cover our little debate but it's still an interesting read! 3nodding
