See these four Pokemon up there? They can be potential partners for your Pokemon Trainer; maybe they where your first Pokemon, or maybe they where abandoned by their pervious trainer, or a wild Pokemon that you had been tracking down for days.

Basically the story behind these Pokemon are your choice, but I want to see what you can come up with! It doesn't have to be long or elaborate, however it should have some substance to it.

You may try for two (coming up with individual back stories for each mind you!), but you can only win one. If you have a preference for which Pokemon you want more, than make sure to note it as such.

The end date for this will be 8:00 MST on Monday night, April 19th

How Elegancia & Mimi (Lopunny) came to be!

There was once a spoiled, naughty little b***h of a child who enjoyed following her parents everywhere they went. This child's name was Elegancia. Unfortunately for Elegancia's parents, she caused problems here, there, and everywhere she went. At mother's work, the child would call all of the models ugly! At father's work, the child would spill bottles of hair styling solution! To remedy this toxic situation, the parents came together and bought her the cutest Pokemon they could manage-- a Buneary! It was very expensive, costing several million pokedollars, because they had to import it from Sinnoh. Unfortunately, the two hated eachother on meeting! Elegancia would pull on Buneary's fluffy tail, and Buneary would sock Elegancia in the face with its ear! This made Elegancia's parents sad. Had they made the situation worse?

One day, however, the two of them were bickering like any other humdrum day, when Elegancia suddenly stopped. She thought Buneary would look pretty cute with a sash on-- so she put one on! The Buneary looked at itself in the mirror and bounced around happily, thinking of itself as being pretty hot for a Pokemon. The Buneary, in return, would brush Elegancia's hair in the morning, and on occasion, would bring her some clothes from the closet! Not before Elegancia dressed it, of course! If she didn't, it would hop around angrily, as if to say "Me! Me!"

This earned Buneary the name "Mimi," which the two both found quite cute. In the end, everyone was happy-- Elegancia's parents had kept her occupied, Elegancia had a new friend, and Buneary now had a grooming slave! As the two grew-up together, they endured many battles, experienced evolution, and made many friends!

I was a new trainer learning to ropes…except it was hard to BE a trainer without a Pokémon. So every day I would wander around the forest alone (to my parent’s angry protests) searching for the perfect partner. Maybe I was a sucker for power, so seeing all the common grass Pokémon wouldn’t cut it for me (no pun intended). I also didn’t like bugs much. The forest was quiet tonight which set an eerie chill through my bones. Nothing moved. Nothing stirred. I paused to listen and heard a soft whimper coming from my right. Part of me wanted to rush to help, but I was always cautious and had the option of running back home. Against better judgment I approached the painful cries to my right. It only took a few moments before I stumbled upon a Nindoqueen hiding under a broken tree. I whistled at the damage. Branches, rocks, leaves and dirt piles littered the grounds between us.

The tree behind the Pokémon hunched menacingly over its victim as if to devour its prey. I heard her whimpers again. Yes I could tell it was a girl because Nindoqueens are females. Cautiously I approached, trying to both get closer and stay out of reach. Luckily I was well prepared having stocked items: 5 pokeballs, 2 potions, and a few berries on hand for any situation. There was a sickly purple ooze spilling out slowly beneath, her hinting that she had been attacked by a poison type pokemon earlier. She needed an antidote quick! Rummaging through my pack I found a Pecha berry.

Now the problem was getting the Nindoqueen to eat the berry. A branch cracked under my foot which alerted the creature. She swung her face to look at me, her growl coming out more of a hurt whimper. Her body tensed watching me cautiously ready to either run or pounce. Except her weight was leaning forward, she was ready to fight to the end. I had to admire that. Slowly, oh so slowly I showed her the berry in my hand not moving once her eyes caught the gift. I smiled kindly trying to keep my fear down. We stood still for what felt like hours not moving a muscle. She was assessing me and I, her. Something happened and she slowly crawled towards me. Inwardly I sighed in relief and took a step forward which the creature arched and growled as if demanding I not move. So I obeyed waiting until she made it to me. Teeth suddenly showed up in my vision as the hint came that I was supposed to feed it to her. I blinked and tossed the berry in which she snatched and quickly munched away on.

Right before my eyes, she sighed contentedly that her ailment had passed her, but she was weak. How did I know? Perhaps it was the way she crawled. Her eyes showed fire and strength while her body retaliated and demanded rest. Cautiously I reached into my bag and pulled out a potion. No words were needed and the Pokémon drank the concoction regaining her vigor. Curious eyes looked at me as she tilted her head to the side. I couldn’t help but grin, not once did we say anything to each other and yet we understood each other perfectly. It looked as if I had found my partner.

That was how Artemis and her partner Oasis met.

It was my first family vacation. I was six years old, and my parents had finally decided to take me on a weekend trip. We entered the canyon, the name of which I cannot recall, and found our tour guide. It was about 2 hours into our journey through the canyon when we stopped for a lunch break. I was content enough to eat my peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the shade of a nearby rock. Well, I was content until I noticed the small flame flickering from behind another rock a short way down the canyon. Natural curiosity overtook me, and I started to walk to it. My parents were so involved in an excited discussion with the guide over some rock formation that they did not even notice their precious little boy scampering off.

As I rounded the rock, I noticed that the flame was on a tail. As I followed the tail, I noticed that it was attached to a Charmander. As I looked at the Charmander, who was only two feet away from me, I saw my own curiosity mirrored in its eyes. It suddenly looked interested in me, but when I noticed it was gazing slightly downward, I realized it was interested in my sandwich. I timidly held the sandwich out towards the Charmander. It quickly snatched the sandwich from my hand, devouring it whole and leaving me speechless, jaw agape. Now I had no lunch, and my bottom lip started to quiver as I prepared to cry. Strangely, the Charmander seemed to sense my sadness and pulled an Oran Berry from a stash in a hole under the rock, which I had not noticed before. The Charmander handed me the berry, and I took a bite. I realized why pokemon loved Oran berries so much, as I quickly devoured the delicious berry. I smiled at the Charmander, and for a second I could have sworn it smiled back. It was then that I heard my parents calling my name, searching for me. I waved to the Charmander, then turned and ran back to my parents. We left the canyon that day, their excuse being some fear of me disappearing into the canyon and never coming out.

A few years later...
"Mom, can I go check out the rest of the canyon?" I asked, as we had finally returned to the canyon to finish our trip, after months of begging, bribing, and pleading with them to take me on one last trip before I started my pokemon journey. I had still not found a pokemon, but they decided that they would help me after the trip. "Okay, but stay where you can hear me." She replied, but I had already taken off, running further into the canyon.

I was walking along the side of the canyon when I noticed a shadow pass over me. It had moved too quickly for me to identify it, but when I looked over my shoulder, I was startled by the sight of a Charizard diving towards me. I let out a startled shout, but was out of earshot of my parents. I turned and started to run, but before I knew it, my legs were kicking through nothing but air. Looking up, I saw that the Charizard had grabbed me and lifted me into the air. I was unsure where I was being taken, but stopped my struggling as we gained altitude, as I did not want to fall.

I was taken to a small cave in the side of the canyon. I took it to be the Charizard's nest, but was unsure why I was taken there. Terrifying thoughts entered my head, the first of which was being on the menu. I curled into a ball, scared and shaking. When nothing happened after five minutes, I opened my eyes slightly, looking through openings in my fingers, which I had been using to cover my face. The sight that met my eyes was that of a perplexed Charizard, whose head was tilted and whose eyes looked at me inquiringly, almost as if to ask what I was doing. Realizing that I was in no immediate harm from the Charizard, I sat up. The Charizard seemed to smile, but I took it for a menacing gesture and almost started to cry. Seeing my fear, the Charizard walked behind a rock which was near the center of its nest. Before I could decide how to escape, it had returned, its claw held out towards me. In its claw was an Oran berry, and when I met its gaze I realized that it was the same Charmander I had met all those years ago on my first trip to the canyon.

After spending the afternoon with the Charizard, playing tag and hide-and-seek through the canyon, I decided that I should return to my parents. The Charizard flew me close to my parents, landing behind a bend in the canyon where they could not see. As I started to walk away, I looked back over my shoulder. The Charizard looked sad, and I thought I could see a tear in its eye. "Charizard, would you like to come with me?" I asked. Instantly, its head perked up and a smile came to its face.

"Hey Mom, Dad, guess what?" I said, excitement in my voice. "What?" They both asked in unison. "I think I found my first pokemon." I answered as Charizard came around the bend in the canyon. They both gasped simultaneously, but then overcame their surprise. That evening, we went home. Charizard included.

I was an excited bow, my parents and I had been planning a trip to the Sinnoh region for a while now, and we were finally going! I Hummed happily as my mother helped me gather my stuff and put them into my travel bag. I thought of all the great places we could see. Like the Oerburgh coal mine or the light house in Sunnyshore. It was going to be such an adventure for sure!

Saddly when we got there my father informed us that we would be staying in Pastoria city and that the only sightseeing would be the Great Marsh. Now the Great Marsh isn't all that Great for a boy, it's full of mud that you weren't allowed to jump around in and trees that you couldn't climb in, even worse the Croagunk Festival was three weeks ago so we couldn't have seen that! To make it even worse my father had to work the whole time so it was just me and my mother there.

The only good thing that had happened that day was when I ran into a Mudkip, you should have seen the look on my mothers face when it tackled me down, (playfully might I add) and started to play with me. Later that day my father came to find us to take us to the place we were staying, getting up I pat the Mudkip on the head and started to walk off. To all of our surprises the mudkip followed us home. It was father who suggested that we keep it as a pet and caught it.

A few years later we had a Swampert named West (We found him in the westren part of the Great Marsh) living in our backyard who always followed me everywhere I went. I always felt lucky that my father got his boss to allow him to take us to the Sinnoh region, and I always quitely said thank you to Arcues for allowing us to meet.

It was a quiet afternoon and John sat reading peacefully on a large flat rock in the shade of the tall trees around him. It was serene in the forest and apart from the trickling of a nearby stream and the faint sounds of pokemon chattering it was virtually silent.

Sighing to himself John turned the page and continued reading. He was just starting to consider maybe talking a little nap, when suddenly he felt somebody watching him. John looked up quickly, gazing around him in every direction. But whatever it was was gone now and with a sigh he returned to his book.

Wait, did something just brush past his shoulder? John looked back and saw nothing. Now getting more then a little suspicious, he smirked. “Ohh I see” he said softly, “Well… I’ll just return to reading my book then since there’s NOBODY watching me!” but as he turned back to his book he saw, (much to his horror), that there had been a huge bite taken out of it.

For several moments he sat there staring at the missing chuck of his book, gently running his fingers over the teeth marks. He was so engrossed by the devastation to the pages that he didn’t notice what was sneaking up on him, and was caught completely off guard as he finally looked up and came face to face with the smiling Nidoqueen. “Oh my-!” John nearly fell back off the rock, but noting that the pokemon didn’t seem dangerous he smiled softly, “Did you do this?” he indicated the teeth marks in his book.

The Nidoqueen nodded and reached out a clawed hand indicating that she wanted the rest of it.

John frowned, holding the book away from her, “No, now you mustn’t eat books. They are not for eating they are for reading” noting how much he sounded like an angry parent he couldn’t help but smile again, “Sorry… but if you’re hungry I can get you some food?”

The Nidoqueen seemed to think about this for a moment before nodding, content to follow him wherever he went so long as he gave her food.

John quickly tucked the torn pages of his book away in his bag and grinned, hopping off the rock, “Brilliant! My house is this way, if you just wait here I’ll bring you back some berries and maybe a pokeblock or two”

The Nidoqueen took a step towards him, making John somewhat nervous until she grabbed him and pulled him into an overly zealous hug. She had no intention of waiting anywhere; not while this human was being so kind to her lunconditionally like that.

((It’s not really a background for the pokemon I just realised sweatdrop but it explains their first meeting. I’m also still thinking of my trainer’s name for this shop so I just used a fairly generic name like John til I can come up with something better, hope that’s ok :3 ))

"All my life I had grown up watching my grandfather - a pokemon breeder. As soon as I was old enough to begin dreaming about turning eleven and heading off on my own journey, I was determined that I would become a breeder, like he was. When I was born, I lived with both my parents in Lilycove city, as my dad had a job at the Lilycove Department store. Unfortunately, however, my parents got divorced when I was only five. My mother and I ended up moving to Slateport, where she had grown up, and where my grandfather still lived. So, when I was young, I often spent the days with him, while my mother went to work. I didn't mind, though, spending the day with him was a great chance to be around Pokemon, which, like many people, I discovered a love for at a very young age.

"He was a very interesting man. He had lived by the sea for most of his life, having lived for many years in Pacifidlog Town. He loved bitter tea, organic healing methods, and held a particular passion for water pokemon. He often told me about when he was younger, that he was quite the surfer, and had gotten into fishing for a while as well. His first pokemon was a Poliwag, whom he loved, and still had around. By the time he moved to Slateport, finished with his few years of training, that little Poliwag was a Poliwrath, and he had been joined by a team of two other pokemon. A Corsola, and a Kingler. He had only been out journeying as a trainer for two years, and it was when he happened upon a breeder in Verdanturf Town in the Pokemon Contest Hall, that he fell in love with the art of breeding, and that man he met in the hall soon became his mentor.

"Once he had learned everything he could from his mentor, he moved to Slateport to open a small practice. It slowly grew, and although it was only a small place, he was soon well-known around the city for his earnest and good-natured ways. He worked well with all pokemon, however it was obvious that he held a real gift with water pokemon.

"When I was nine, I really got into helping him at his practice. I loved seeing all the pokemon and trainers that came through, getting more and more impatient about starting my own journey. The more I stayed around, the more he let me help, sometimes teaching me simple massages, and informing me of different, self-made remedies. However, the day that truly stands out for me, was when the door to his practice burst open, and a middle-aged man came running in, holding an exhausted and injured Mudkip. He said he had just seen it swim onto the shore of the beach, and didn't know what to do but to take it to him. The poor thing was crumpled in the man's arms, and my grandfather asked me to help comfort the Pokemon while he brewed up something for it. I sat there and massaged the pokemon's fins delicately, like he had shown me before, being very careful of the Mudkip's obvious aching.

"It took almost two weeks to heal the small pokemon back to full health, and by then, the man who had brought him in was long-gone. My grandfather assumed he was just a traveller. However, we had grown quite fond of the little guy, and in return, he had gotten quite comfortable with us. So, my grandfather kept him as his fourth pokemon. I played with Mudkip constantly from then on, and he became one of my best friends.

"It was when I was just ten, that my grandfather got very sick. He was bedridden, and although the doctors assured my mother and I that he would recover enough, he may have to be put in a wheelchair. The thought was horrible for both us, and for him, as he was used to being quite independent. He was always very lively and active, despite his age. I would go and visit him every day, to tell him about anything interesting that had happened that day, and also to visit Mudkip, as well. He soon moved in with my mother and I, and he did get better, however, the wheelchair did seem necessary for a walk anything longer than across the house. I was slowly approaching the age of eleven, and I was getting more and more excited as the day grew nearer and nearer. The thought of leaving my mom and grandfather was scary, but I felt ready, and both of them assured me that I was.

"On the morning of my eleventh birthday, I woke up to find a small square box, that looked like it could fit an orange, on the table. From the short card attached, it was obviously from my grandfather. Both he and my mother watched as I opened it excitedly, still not believing I had finally reached the age! When I opened the box, I was astonished and thrilled to find a pokeball.

"'It's empty,' my grandfather started, looking at me with eyes shining brightly, 'for now'.' He then stood up, and walked over to where Mudkip was lounging on a pillow. He leant down and picked the small water pokemon up, and carried it back. 'I want you to take Mudkip with you, when you go' he said, a smile on his face. His smile, though, was nothing compared to the enthusiastic grin that appeared on my face - the excitement that only a recently-eleven-year-old could accomplish. "Really?!" I asked, overwhelmed. He merely nodded, and held out the pokemon to me. Mudkip jumped eagerly into my arms, and I hugged him tightly. It was comforting to know that I wouldn't be completely alone on my journey. I would have Mudkip with me.

"I soon left on my own journey, Mudkip skipping happily alongside me. I felt more alive than I ever had, and I was full of dreams - of meeting new people, of catching water pokemon, of learning the true art of breeding, and most of all, raising Mudkip. Slowly, over time of training, he evolved from a Mudkip to a Marshtomp, from a Marshtomp to a Swampert. When I went home to visit, my grandfather couldn't believe that Swampert was once that little injured Mudkip. Neither could I. But I wouldn't have changed anything for the world."
