Name: Elizabeth "Betty" Graver

Nicknames: Betty Graver to the public, Lizzy to close friends. Sometimes also called Ms Gray.

Age: 27

Birthday: August 1

Sign: Leo

Blood Type: AB

Fav. Food: Her mother's cooking! Betty adores Asian food, which is her mother's specialty.

Hated Food: Overly greasy food. Food with fats is okay once in a while, but Betty is squicky about those with visible fat, and likes tearing off, for example, the fats in a KFC fried chicken.

Occupation: Talk Show Host of "The Grey Area"

Hobbies:
Cartoons -- Even as Betty is a grown up adult now, she still enjoys watching cartoons, and argues that cartoons are for everyone. Cartoon physics have always intrigued her, a prime example being Looney Tunes' Roadrunner series. She is fond of wacky old cartoon shorts and loves tuning in to the channel Boomerang from Cartoon Network.

Reading fantasy books -- Books with a fantasy setting are Betty's favorite. They have always drawn her in with magic and things thought impossible in reality, which is probably why she was interested in the Senshi and Negaverse, because they proved that such situations exist.

The Grey Area -- Betty's talk show is her life. What she does mostly are because of it; reading news to find out the latest monster attacks and skirmishes between the Senshi and Negaverse, keeping a ear out for gossip, and coming up with new topics for her next sessions.

Gemstone: Diamond

Virtues:

Confident -- Without confidence, Betty would have never been who she is today. She is always full of vigor on and off the show, and is very self-assured with her own success. She knows that her show is a hit with Destiny City, and always aims to bring the best to her show. Betty has faith in her own ideas; hey, she came up with "The Grey Area", theme, title and all! Even when producers she talked to were not keen on it eventually, she persevered, and with the growing number of cases in Destiny City about the Senshi and Negaverse, she was given a shot, and she made good use of it.

Creative -- Creative thinking is another piece to the puzzle that brought Betty to being a talk show host. As said above, the show she hosts was originally her own idea, after seeing the increasing number of debates that were going on about the situation in Destiny City. She comes up with each week's topic herself, and allows both the live audience and the public to call in to express their thoughts about the topic at hand.

Warm -- Betty always wants to be the sun of the show, to bring warmth and understanding to the people of Destiny City. She often sympathizes with the audience's thoughts and as the show grew to be more popular, she set up a charity called "The Grey Area Gives" for not only herself, but the public too, to donate and help those who have been hurt in the ongoing battles in Destiny City.

Flaws:

I want it my way -- Being too confident is never a good thing; and Betty is that. She is overly-confident in her own ideas, and believes that she does what is best for her show. Thus, she is not very open to ideas posed to her by colleagues about what she should do on her show. She is incredibly protective of her own show, and she'll run it her way. She thinks herself perfectly capable of organizing it and all the details, and sometimes come across as pushy and bossy this way. As such, Betty is always busy, with responsibilities she puts upon her own shoulders.

Busy Little Bee -- Betty is an incredibly busy woman. Every living, breathing moment seems to be dedicated to work, and friends have found that she's extremely hard to catch hold of for shopping trips or even just hanging out together. Friends have also discovered that it's easy to lose contact with her; it's not that Betty's not sociable, it's just that she always seems to be terribly busy.

Takes No Stand -- One feature of Betty that is clear to everyone who watches her show is that she doesn't exactly side with the Senshi or Negaverse. She doesn't believe you can properly separate both into good and evil, black and white, which is also how the name for the show came about. It can get pretty annoying to viewers, and many have asked her about which side she sides with, but to no avail.
(Some speculate it is because she is afraid that if she speaks about which side she is on, the other will hunt her down.)

This doesn't only apply to the Senshi and Negaverse; Betty's not very good with siding with anyone at all. If two people argue, she is able to point out the flaws and virtues in each person's argument, but never voices out which side is best.

Physical Description:

Hair: Betty has long wavy Rose Red hair which she likes to either side braid, leave down, or partly braid.

Eyes: Brown, almond shaped eyes; she has double eyelids.

Face: Betty has a small face shape, which she has inherited from her mother.

Body: Tall and slim (170cm)

Fashion: Office chic. Adores high heels.

The Grey Area

What is it about?
The Grey Area is a talk show which airs live every week, Fridays at 9PM on DCNN (Destiny City News Network). The topics revolve around the current situation in Destiny City, namely the battles between the Senshi and Negaverse, and monster attacks. The Grey Area is held in a studio with a live audience, who can stand up to express their opinions on the topic, and the public is encouraged to call in to do the same as well.

Each episode starts off with host Betty Graver, "Good evening, Destiny City, and welcome to DCNN! This is the Grey Area, with Betty Graver." Betty then goes on to summarize the attacks in the past week, especially those of monster attacks. She then introduces the topic of the week, and starts the discussion, taking opinions from the audience and the public as well.

The Grey Area aims to have a fair and equal debate on the topic at hand.

What kind of topics are discussed?

Topics to do with the Senshi, Negaverse or the Monsters, basically.

One future idea is for Betty to discuss how witnesses have said that the Senshi and Negaverse agents typically range from teenagers to young adults, and ask parents how would they feel if they knew their children was doing such things. Or perhaps even ask if parents think that these attacks are having a negative influence on their children.

How does it work?

Basically, I'm aiming for Betty starting off the show then opening the discussion to the public, and players can then have their characters, or even their characters' relatives call in. Players could even puppet NPCs (See Disposable Characters sticky in main guild) to call in to voice different opinions.

One more post just in case!

I love that you picked a talkshow host. xD <3 Would definitely help round out the setting, if there was something to watch that reported all these going-ons besides the news~ <3

Just two little things, from me. Her 'Confident' virtue seems to conflict with the 'No criticism please', for me. If she was so confident, would she really be paranoid about whether she was doing well or not if she got criticism?

As for her 'Takes No Stand' flaw; I really like this. However, does it apply to her outside of the Negaverse/Senshi? Is she infuriatingly neutral on other subjects? I dunno, it just seems like you could apply it outside of the forces in Destiny City, too.

Other than that, she looks great! Dan would eat her show up, I tell you what.

Thank you for the crit, tsun! biggrin

I replaced the criticism flaw (thank you for pointing that out!) with another; 'Busy Little Bee', and expanded the 'Takes No Stand' flaw a bit!

Hey Mel! Crit one of two, coming your way! :]

Okay, let’s start with Betty’s virtues!

I like confident a lot, and appreciate that you’ve given us an example of her confidence. For curiosity’s sake, I’m wondering, was she born this confident, or is it something she has to work for? Did she become more confident as her talk show succeeded, or was she more or less already at this level?

I’m liking creative too, especially because confidence gives her the ability to go after whatever she imagines! As with above, more for curiosity’s sake, how else does this apply to her life? Is she also the show’s problem solver? Does she extend her creativity beyond the script? Does she ever allow anyone to stifle her creativity?

Aww, I’m finding myself exceptionally attracted to ‘warm’! She set up a charity! I think that’s a really unique idea! Again, playing the devil’s advocate: what happens when she tries to extend a helping hand and it’s refused. Not everyone is willing to have someone sympathize with them, after all. I’m curious to know what would happen if Betty was rebuffed by someone. Would she keep trying to help, or would she leave them on their own? Does she wait to be asked for help, or does she take initiative?

Okay, and let’s head on to flaws!

Hehe, overconfidence. I love when there’s a pair of virtue/flaw two sides of the same coin business. I like that Betty knows what’s best for The Grey Area, and that she’s so protective of it. You’ve really covered all your bases on this one, I can’t think of any questions to pose!

Mhhm, I like the busy flaw, as well. You mention it’s easy to lose contact with other people; am I to assume she doesn’t really work to keep up relationships? Are these only personal relationships, or does she let business relationships slip as well? Does Betty ever have me time? On that note, does she want it? Does this girl have a breaking point? With all the responsibilities she piles onto her own shoulders, does it ever become a little too overwhelming for her? If so, how does she handle that?

I find your last flaw very interesting. Are you saying she’s indecisive? I’m curious: did the refusal to pick sides start out as something for The Grey Area and seep into the rest of her life, or was she always the one who didn’t pick sides? If asked to pick a side in an argument, what does she do? Again, curiosity, does this mean her moral scale is a little bit more about ‘shades of grey’ than ‘right and wrong’? Is she herself willing to bend the rules, since she won’t assign those labels to others? Is Betty only indecisive when it comes to other people, or does she have trouble making decisions for herself, as well? I only ask because she’s confident/overconfident, so I’m trying to get a feel if this flaw is ‘indecisive’ or about her morality levels. I think it’s a good flaw, but I’m just not sure where you’re coming from!

Alright, and after the personality, I read the hobbies~

All I can say is, does Betty read Twilight? XD No, no, in all honesty, her hobbies are interesting: I can definitely see how her talk show fits into her life and personality, and I like how the fantasy books are what led her into the realm of the senshi and Negaverse in the first place. The fact that you mentioned Boomerang makes me really happy, and I can see her confidence in her ability to watch cartoons even as a grown adult, hehe. Hobbies look great!

Overall, I think this character looks great. She’s well thought out, she’s unique and I get a really good image of Betty painted in my head the way you described her. The only issue I really had was I wasn’t quite sure where you were headed with her refusal to pick sides, but other than that, I mostly only wanted to know more about her, and that’s not a bad thing at all! You’ve got me interested, hehe!

I hope this crit helps you out some. If anything I’ve said seems unclear or doesn’t make sense, feel free to ask me to clarify. Good luck with your quest! :]
