Mourning Fog laid peacefully on a large mangrove root. He peered over the edge at the murky water below. Pleasant memories came to his mind, some from the minds of kimeti long gone who happened upon this place. He smiled, knowing that someday his memories would be in the minds of another like him. The memory that stood out to him the most was that of Life-Pulse. After all, this is where they first met.
The stag's tail flicked with energy at the thought of her. He was different now, not only in appearance, but in heart as well. He no longer felt severed from the Motherfather. He could feel her breathe inside him. Although it felt heavy and sad, being in this place alleviated those feelings. And he hoped through him, Matope would feel some peace as well.
He had felt nervous ever since his change. New responsibilities were laid on him, not only of his newfound status. But he was a father now. He wondered if any of the larva would find their way back to him. And in this spot he vowed that he would be the best father he could be..

Where could that buck have possibly run off to? The doe asked herself silently. For a few suns now, she had been searching the swamp for any signs of her favorite companion, the purple & pink buck that had captured her heart: Mourning Fog. She had picked up his scent a few times, followed it's path, just to be disappointed by it ending abruptly in one place or another. Today was going to be different, though, she could tell. She had woken up that morning and caught her tail on a particularly thorny bramble-bush. In the midst of getting it untangled, something had caught her eye, something slimy and glimmering. It didn't take her long to realise the bundle was a living, breathing baby. One that smelt like her lover, Mourning Fog.

Without further ado, the bright doe picked up the sac, carrying it by the two sticks it had been caught on, and she was on her way. Today, she would find her buck, because there was only one last place to check: the very place they had first met.
Sticks in her mouth, ears perked, tail twitching in tight little circles, Life-Pulse made her way towards that magical place, taking a calmer route than normal, not wanting to take any risks with the precious package hanging out of her mouth. But she couldn't quite bring herself to leaving the cover of the brush, at least, not until she convinced herself that she was seeing things.
She had made it to the end of the path, and her nose and ears were telling her that the being up ahead was her beloved buck, but her eyes were telling her that it was all wrong. Confused, the doe gently places the sac down and takes two steps overtop of it, edging closer to the other being, edging closer to it's twitching tail.

Mourning Fog yawned, he mouth stretching greatly as he overlooked this nostalgic spot. He brought a hoof up to scratch his cheek when a draft of wind came gently up from behind. It brought with it not only a cooling breeze, but a familiar scent. It smelled exactly like that beautiful doe, Life-Pulse, and he smiled. He missed her even more now, and wondered what she had been doing since they last met. Another excited twitch of the tail, but this time it brushed up against something. That was strange, he knew he was far enough away from the mangrove trunk to not rub against it...
Craning his neck to take a look, he found to his surprise, the very doe he had been thinking of all day. A weak smile formed on his lips and it grew to a full crescent as he stood up to turn around. Immediately he nuzzled her, whispering only her name in her ear.
"So much has happened...You don't know how much i've missed you.." he spoke softly. Then his hoof rubbed against something else. Something slimy. Looking down he found a larva sac. At first he thought it was hers, and wasn't surprised, knowing she was already a mother. Then he took a closer look at it and bent down to smell it. A few breathy huffs and he realized...it was his! She found his sac!

As he turned, her jaw opened slightly, and she stared. It was definitely Mourning Fog -especially since he embraced and greeted her with such delicate affection, such care- but he was so... different. Her eyes wide, shining blue on both the male and the sac at her feet, and she dumbly listened to what he was saying, wanting to smile back, to return the affection, but she was in a state of shock, shock that for once had her silenced.
Her gaze followed his muzzle down to the sac and she managed to close her mouth, and instead furrow her brow. Slightly confused an strangely still, Life-Pulse said quietly, "It smells like you..." a pause, "...and... you're... you're different." With that, she tilted her head to the side, blue eyes glowing brightly and scanned him over, noting all the physical differences, and wondering if there were any mental ones too. What had happened to him?

Mourning Fog's eyes flickered up at Life-Pulse when he heard her speak. Well now he was a little embarrassed!
"I..umm..well it may be obvious now, but I am a father now.." he chuckled weakly. He watched her stillness, her silence, and frowned. He did look a lot different, did she know it was him?
"It's hard to explain what's happened. I've had dreams lately, dreams where I saw the Motherfather, and she spoke to me. She returned to me my other half, and granted me this new form, and new powers. I used to think I was severed from her because I was unable to hear her call...until now...I feel like I've been reunited to something I've missed for so long...and now I feel that way again, with you." he said. He paused, realizing his explanation might seem ridiculous, and as proof, he shifted into his giant moth form, to show her.

She nodded at the admittance of fatherhood. That much was obvious, and she had come here, not to scold really, but to tease and pry at his whereabouts. She had missed him! And now she came back to find he had children with someone else. Sadness was pushing in, trying to overtake her, but she bravely shoved it away. This was not the time to be sad, Mourning Fog had things to share with her now.
And so, she listened to what he had to say, to the dreams he spoke of, and to the part about missing half... It was all very confusing, but she valiantly tried to keep up with all this new information, until he shifted. That took her over the edge, and threw her into complete shock. Her rump met the ground suddenly and her eyes widened to watch the transformation, the moth fly about. What in the world was going on?
The moth looked like her beloved, but... it was... a moth.
She was thoroughly confused, and with her jaw dropped once more, she merely sat there staring at the moth, unable to bring herself to do anything else.

His love's reaction caught Mourning Fog by surprise. He immediately switched back, stepping forward quickly. His hoof slipped slightly and he fumbled around to right himself. Bending down to her, he nuzzled her cheek gently and spoke:
"Are you alright? Is this...too much at once? It is a lot to take in...I haven't seen you in so long..Let's take things slow for now alright?" he said, sitting down. He then proceeded to explain to her his new forms, his dreams in detail, and the feeling of completeness now that he was with her, and his full self. All the while he kept scooting closer, until their ankles touched and he could feel her breath on his chest. It filled him with a warmth unlike anything the sun could have provided.

She sat, dumbfounded and in utter shock, but she tried her very best to listen, to concentrate. Her entire body was still, not a single part of her twitching - entirely unusual for her music-driven self.
She nodded, stating that she was alright, but couldn't quite bring herself to say anything, not even to calm her love down. Instead, she waited and listened as he inched closer and spoke, and at the point of contact, she closed her eyes a moment and sighed rather heavily. She nuzzled her head in under Mourning Fog's chin and sighed once more. Here it was warm and safe, she knew. Here, she could sit forever and just watch time pass by.
His dreams and discoveries really did intrigue her though, and she nodded, wanting to hear more, but why not get comfortable to do so? So she curled up against his chest and stretched out her neck to gently grab onto his tail. She gave it a slight tug, enticing him to curl himself up around her.

The touch of her body against his made him feel like nothing else mattered. For the first time since they reunited, he was silent, his mind clear, focused on one thing: her. As she tugged his tail, he instinctively moved to curl up beside her. He wanted to stay like this forever, always beside her. He looked at the sac that remained near him, watching it as the young kimeti inside breathed, its heart beating gently. Even with this child of his, he yearned for another. One that would smell like Life-Pulse. One that was theirs. He rested his chin on her neck gently and whispered:
"I know I just said we should take things slow...but I can't wait any longer to say this..I love you, Life-Pulse, you know that of course. But I really. really mean it.
I love you. More than anything. And..I want to know if you'd like to be my only. My life-mate.." he said, words hushed and shaky. His chest pounded as he awaited her reply. All he could think about was how each day would be if spent with her. And how happy that made him feel.

Somehow the silence was even warmer than the sound of her love's voice, while they neatly settled against one another. Her head nuzzled into his furry chest and her eyes were shut tightly, soaking in every moment of affection that she could.
Her ear twitched back to hear better when he began to whisper, and as he spoke, her heartbeat quickened and before he was done speaking, their heartbeats had matched up to the same speed, both beating fast, but beating as one.
Without opening her eyes she spoke what poured out of her heart, not having to think and responded softly, "We are already one, my love. Listen to our hearts beating in sync. What you have just asked aloud, is what MotherFather just confirmed. She knows that we walk as two but breathe as one." She paused for a moment to nuzzle him and then continued.
"You know I want nothing else than to be by your side forever..." Her eyes slid open and she tilted her head back to look into his glowing blue ones, "I will happily stand by your side, your life-mate, Mourning Fog. And I look forward to spending the rest of our days together."
Her eyes said it all, and more, but in truth, what they spoke, both already knew. It could merely be tradition that the two spoke this vow aloud, for the Motherfather already knew this bond was unbreakable, but for the two lovers it was just one last confirmation of their commitment to each other.

Mourning Fog sighed with relief and contentedness at her response. His heart felt whole and complete as he was beside her and mentally thanked the Motherfather for this moment in his life. And just like the first day he met her, this memory would be with him, deep in his heart, for all eternity. He nuzzled her once more, with greater passion as the dappled sunlight faded away.
