N.B.: We do NOT intend to try out this style anytime soon; it will not replace scheduled Mafias or Mini-Mafias (which I intend to write up an FAQ on this weekend, for members interested in running one. smile )So I was reading up on Mafiascum.net, and I came across an interesting variation of the Mafia game called Kingmaker.
Basic rules and roles here.
The biggest difference is that instead of voting on who to lynch, we attempt to influence a single player, who then makes the decision on their own. (The decider changes daily; most of us will survive long enough to get a turn as King.)
What I like about this one is that it won't be heavily reliant on a deadlined day-and-night phase, due to the small number of roles and the single-person vote. It should also be fairly easy for newbies to understand, because it's not chock-full of roles.
Twists I would propose, to keep this game style fresh: -Instead of having a Kingmaker, the town votes after the night kill on the next appointed King. (This would require a 'morning' phase between night and day.) -Instead of one Kingmaker, there are a group of them, who must come to a consensus on the next King. Mafia wins if all Kingmakers die.
What do you think? Something you'd be interested in giving a shot?

It wouldn't replace the April 20th Mafia, or any mini-mafias our members would like to run. It just might be something we experiment with in the future. smile

it's not that it's just the theme is so similar to the one I have for my mini that I wouldn't feel comfortable running mine maybe I could make another...

Riv, it's not one style for everyone. No one will really care if your style matches another one. xD We just care if the theme is different. And that the rules are fair. Plus this would work out better. If we let our mods come with with a Kingmaker mafia, it'd be an easier way to get everyone used to the style. That way, no one would be apprehensive to join your mini.
I'm with it.

That would be a lot of fun. I've never played Kingmakers before, but I'll be willing to give it a try.

Kingmaker is a LOT of fun, but definitely not for beginners. I'd prefer to have everyone playing hav at least 5 good games of experience under their belts beforehand, y'know?
