Laka had spent a few days dithering on what to say to her parents. She knew her father would be a complete wreck once he found out that his little girl wanted to leave the lands and going on an adventure. He'd say: "No. Not a chance. Don't even think about it! It's too dangerous! I forbid you!!"

This was one of those times when she wished that he wasn't so timid and more open-minded when it came to the outside world. Mother, after all, came from another pride and she was the best lioness that Laka knew! She also determined to use that point to try and persuade them to let her go.

But she also realised that, if she were to win this battle of words, she'd have more chance with her mother, seeing as Rehema did know of the outside world.

So, she moved towards her birth-den, hoping they were both at home and hoping they were both in good moods.

Ughhh she was scared and nervous and...her legs felt all wibbly! But she had to do this. Time was running out and it was now or never. Yes or no, she needed an answer.

Rehema laid out in a small patch of sunlight filtering in from the mouth of their den with her newly born litter curled up against her belly. She had the youngest, a little white cub with a mane to match his father's, nessled inbetween her front paws. The cub protested in loud mews and squeaks as she ran her tongue over his little face. Their eyes were still shut, their bodies hardly covered in baby fuzz. Rehema hadn't left the den for days. It was driving her quietly insane, but she was used to the routene by then. Kohana and Ona were the men of the household- they'd bring back meals and keep the territory safe enough. Still, it would be nice to get some fresh air.

As Laka approached, Rehema lifted her head and flattened her ears, a long-lived instinct she still had trouble dropping, even within her family's territory. After a moment she sighed and offered her daughter a warm smile.

"Laka, are you going to be keeping me company today?"

She peeped timidly up at her, mouse-like in her delicate appearance and now in the way she edged herself slowly forwards. She gave her mother a shy sort of smile and crawled ever forwards.

"Um....maybe?"

She blinked and looked around. Just Mother then, by the looks of it. Maybe good. Maybe not. She guessed she'd just have to find out the hard way.

"Um, Dad not about?"

Rehema straightened up and narrowed her eyes. The young lady was up to something no doubt. Her smile became a knowing, coy one as Laka approached. Howi flopped over his mother's paw, his tiny little legs stretching and kneeding at the soft fur. He was hungry, she knew he was, but he wasn't done being groomed. He wasn't going anywhere.

"He's not around, no...", She lowered a brow and cleared her throat. "...Laka what did you do?"

She sighed, seeing that look in her mother's eye and knowing full well that the older female had cottoned onto the fact that something was wrong. She made a mental note to try and be a better actress in the future.

"Well...it's not really what I've done..." Well, actually it sort of was. "No, it sort of is. I guess." She gave her mother a sheepish look and then sat heavily, looking across at the dark-pelted female. "I strayed to the borders. I know I shouldn't have, Mother, but I couldn't help it! I wanted to see if there was anyone out there and there usually isn't but this time there was and...well..."

Oops.

"Not that I go to the borders a lot! Hardly ever in fact!"

Yeah...smooth.

The lioness' brow creased as the smile slowly faced from her maw. The boarder was a dangerous place... especially for a lion as young as Laka. While she had taught her offspring basic survial and how to defend themselves- it was a dangerous place. She shouldn't have gone alone- that was the first thing that came to mind. She shouldn't have gone at all. There were hostile rogues out there, she should know..

Taking a deep breath, she reached a paw up and rubbed at her temple. "Laka... I've told you about the boarders... you could have been hurt. You should have at least asked. We'd have taken you, or sent someone along."

She flattened her ears, knowing full well that the lecture had been deserved. Even still...it didn't seem far. Mother and Father were way too protective! Nothing bad had ever happened! Nope!

"I knowwww..." She whined. "I'm sorry. I just couldn't help it! I wanted to see some of the lions from your old world, Mother. Ones without tattoos. Ones from different lands. I wanted to hear their stories!"

And that was truth.

"I didn't mean to worry you. Honest. I just...wasn't thinking. That's all."

Rehema shook her head firmly, her eyes unrelenting. Laka was far too young to be out there on her own! She'd been an adult when she and Malik had left the pridelands, even then they'd been injured terribly. She couldn't bear to think of one of her babies out there alone... It was hard enough watching her sons marry into other clans.

Howi yowled again and began nibbling at her paw. The lioness sighed and gently guided the cub over to his nursing siblings. Boys... empty bellies meant for cranky nibbles.

"Not alone. The lions out there can be very dangerous- and large. There are whole prides out there dedicated to killing anyone they see as weak or bearing the wrong pelt color. Trust me, I know."

She dipped her head, pawing sheepishly at the ground. "Well...you see..." Ugh...what was she going to say to convince her Mother that it was all going to be okay? "I...I sort of bumped into a rogue." And quickly she added. "But don't worry!! He was really nice. We had a good chat and he told me all about his adventures."

A pause, swallowing the lump in her throat. "And...well..the thing is...he sort of...maybe...kind of asked whether..."

She blinked, lifting her eyes up to briefly look Rehema in the face. Only briefly, mind. She lowered them a couple of seconds later and gathered enough courage to finish her sentence.

"Whether I wanted to go on an adventure with him." The last was said so quickly that one could almost have missed what she'd said. Almost.

Rehema's look hardened as the story progressed. Meeting a rogue... it could have been a roving male or a hostile from beyond their boarders. She quietly thanked her lucky starts that the young lioness had come back unharmed. As much as she encouraged her offspring to be bold and learn new things, the thought of one of them roaming a little too far, running into the wrong lion at the wrong time, of any of them falling to harm was at the forefront of her mind. If anything happened to any of them...

"You were reckless." She pressed her ears back against her skull and lifted her chin slowly. "Laka...the world out there is not like the good, comfortable life we enjoy here. The rogues aren't always friendly, many of them are rogues for a reason or they've hardened themselves to endure the life of hardship they've found themselves in. Some will kill another lion without a second thought, if only to eat for another day...what if he'd have been one of them? You are far too young to go so far by yourself. I'm very disappointed in you."

She shook her head firmly. "You are far too young... I don't know this rogue, and neither do you... I understand that you are curious, you always have been, but curiosity is best coupled with wisdom... if you're to meet with him again, I would have you bring one of your older siblings."
