 The sun was shining bright, a few clouds lingering about in the sky from the previous nights rainfall. The grass sparkled, and little rainbows could be seen near the puddles of water. Drei'mak found the phenomenon that is a Rainbow, to be the most amazing sight he had ever seen, thus far in his short life span.
Jumping about, from puddle to puddle, Drei giggled contently. What a wonderful world he lived in, everything around him was still new. New sights, new sounds even new smells, all that made his senses tingle. Everything in the world is new, and so many things Drei doesn't understand yet. And on this day, Drei was pondering the meaning of a particular word while he played.. Family.
What does it mean to be Family? he wondered long and hard. Does it mean I have to share my treats? he pondered for a moment and giggled. Still jumping about the puddles, Drei had no idea yet, how deep and meaningful a family really is.

Moja decided she disliked the rain and the wetness it brought. More than that, she hated the puddles and mud that followed.
It was her first day out of the den since her birth. Mo stretched her muscles, enjoying the sun and the way it warmed her fur. After a lengthy yawn, her bright blue eyes blinked twice. She caught sight of another pup in the distance, one who actually seemed to enjoy the mud and muck the rainfall had brought.
With a distasteful look on her face, she moved towards the pup. Mo was very careful to ever-so-carefully dodge any and all puddles and suspicious looking soft spots in the dirt. The rich brown earth squished between her toes despite her best efforts to stay clean, and she huffed disgustedly.
Drawing closer to the pup, she flopped her ears towards him. "Hey," she called. "Hey! What are you doing?"

Drei observes his darling sister trying to avoid the puddles of mud, his faces widens with surprise, Why would she want to avoid the mud!? He tried to fathom what possible reason she could have to avoid the delightful mud. He watched her carefully, giggling at her silly action. His little toes wiggling in the mud, cold and squishy, a sensation he very much enjoys.
Then, a sudden idea flew into his head. I'll show her the fun of mud! Yes, she will definitely enjoy the mud once I show her how enjoyable it is. Hearing her call him, he runs over and dives into the puddle of mud just a tiny bit away from her. Mud is sent flying everywhere, he giggles as it splashes up over his pelt, and landing on hers. "I'm playing in the mud!" he said with a big smile on his face. "It's fun, join me!" he says eagerly as he wags his little tail.

Mo gaped at her brother, a small cry of dismay slipping past her lips. Now she was dirty, thanks to him, and would have to clean up! "No!" She took a few steps back from her sibling, shaking her head and setting her ears to swaying along with the movements of her head. "It's cold, it's wet, and it stinks!"
He did look like he was having a lot of fun, though, getting his fur all sticky and crusty with a mixture of wet and drying mud. She couldn't figure out what was so fun about getting disgusting and wet. Where was the fun in rolling around in gritty, wet dirt?
"You're going to be in trouble, I bet!" Moja crowed, looking smugly at Drei. "Maybe you should clean up before mom catches you." She should clean up too, come to think of it. Mo really didn't want to be caught making a mess, she just knew her mum would be most upset.
"There's a patch of grass over there," she cajoled, "It looks like it's still damp, maybe rolling around in it could help you clean up? You're really dirty," her nose wrinkled, "and really smelly."

Drei let out a laugh, loud and awkward sounding. Such thoughts of being in trouble never cross his mind. Only fun, only playing from when the sun rises to the sun sets. "Mother won't yell at me for having fun! he snorted, positive he would be just told to clean up afterward.
Drei flicked his paw at the mud, sending a few more drops to splash out at Moja. Giggling profusely, he stops to take a big breath, enjoy the aroma around him "How does this stink?" He asked curiously. The smell of fresh wet grass and clean air was among Drei's favorite smells, a smell he always looked forward too after rainfall.
"Come play, sister!" he insisted. For playing was what Drei did best.

Mo snorted at her brother, "Don't be silly, Drei. Mother will be angry that you're covered in muck." Gingerly she made her way over to a patch of low-lying brush and proceeded to wipe clean her muddied paws. "You really should come clean," she called back to him, "Maybe we could do something... not as muddy, like look for pretty rocks!" She wagged her tail at him, ears perked, "I bet mother would like some pretty rocks."
Suddenly, collecting some pretty, shiny rocks didn't seem like such a terrible idea. Turning her back to her brother and ignoring his frolicking, Moja gave her paws a once over. Assured that they were clean, she set forth and began to carefully pick through the drier dirt covered by the brush.

Intrigued at digging through the dirt, Drei thought he would go along with what Moja wanted. Running off towards the dirt, Drei didn't care about the mud in his fur, he loved it. He didn't like feeling clean, it made him uncomfortable.
Playfully wiggling his tail Drei shouts "I bet I can find the bestest rock!" His tail wagging rapidly, he found a way to turn his sisters boring activity into a game! He sets to work digging in a nearby patch of dirt, flinging it in the air to the side. It begins to pile up just a few feet from Moja. Unaware of how close he was to getting his sister dirty again, Drei had one thought on his mind, I can win this game!

Satisfied that she'd saved her brother from the terrible, smelly mud, Moja started digging into the dusty soil with gusto. Her own tail wagged from side to side in glee, going along with Drei's prospect of a game. This could be fun! Mo didn't mind the drier dirt they played in now; it could be easily removed with a quick shake. It wasn't like the gluey mud Drei had been playing in earlier.
"Oh, I bet I can find the best rock!" she parroted, paws moving swifly in the dirt. Her own pile of discarded earth mounded up next to her. She even brought her nose into the action, rooting around almost gleefully, careful to not inhale too much dirt.

Digging for several minutes now, Drei had found himself in a small hole. His head barely just making it out of his little hole he would begin to giggle. Being in the small hole made Drei feel like he was tiny, and the world around him so much bigger. Trying to climb his way up, a small little painted rock falls out from the side wall. Nothing spectacular, just a faded orange with little black speckles.
To Drei, this rock was definitely the most beautiful. With this, I can win! he thought, before dashing over to his sister, digging several feet away from him. Dropping the small stone beside her he yelled "Look, Look! I win!" His tail wagging back and forth. Drei was sure his rock was the best, and was quite proud of his find.

Just after Drei had found his rock, Mo popped up with one of her own. It was beautiful, it was majestic, it was glorious. It was surely one of a kind.
She looked at Drei's rock expectantly, silent for a moment before falling into a fit of giggles. Moja shoved her simply amazing rock towards her brother, her small body shaking with laughter.
Her rock looked exactly like his own.
"I guess we both win," she trilled, her voice light with laughter. "Our rocks are twins! I wonder if they're brother and sister, just like us."

Staring at the rocks curiously for a moment, thinking on what Moja had said. Rocks have parents!? was the first thing he thought. Baffled by the thought, he spend several agonizing seconds trying to fathom how rocks have babies. It was long, however, before the thought of what a family is crept back into his little head.
"Sister.. I know what a family is, but.." he said, still staring at the rock curiously. "What does it mean to be IN a family?" his gaze fixing on her for a moment with an innocent but confused look on his face. Drei wasn't the smart of pups, after all.

Moja quirked her head to the side, bright eyes sweeping towards her brother. She remained silent for a moment, thoughtfully mulling over his question in her head.
"Well," she spoke finally, "I think it means that you are always there for the people in your family through thick and thin, no matter what." She nodded convincingly, "That means we've gotta stick together, Drei!" It made perfect sense, didn't it?

Drei laid back under the clear open sky, and pondered what his sister said. The concept of family, of always being there for one another, such an interesting concept. Drei's thoughts mostly focused on the great games he could play in the future with his siblings.
The soft breeze on his fur, and the thoughts swirling in his head, Drei dozed off.
