There were a few things that you never, ever grew out of. One of those things was the unencumbered joy that came along with any color variation of Pokemon. Audrey was currently reliving her first in the clever redesign of SoulSilver, Chickorita doing her very best to battle through the fifth gym. Whitney had always been the hard one, with that b***h Miltank. It was something you never, ever forgot, and you massively over-leveled a solid Pokemon just so that you could perhaps get through it with one Poke intact when you were finished.
This was also her second playthrough, unfortunately. Her parents had been unrelenting about letting her out, especially after the outburst at the therapist's office the day before. She'd sent desperate text messages, updated her Twitter, begged and pleaded that someone had to come and save her from this solitude and confinement. It hadn't quite occurred to the bluenette that before, this was how she chose to spend her days. Now, sprawled on her bed, looking out the window at the April sunshine, it was oppressive and dull. "Baaaaaw, why is it so boring doing this? Can't someone saaaaave me?" Melodrama was something she was learning rapidly from her friends, and currently was wielding it like a broadsword in the hands of a ten year old.

Due to many distractions and an ever-growing list of extracurricular activities, Pasha was not quite on his second playthrough of the HeartGold Pokemon game. He wasn't even through his first, which was why the excitement of getting that pesky eighth gym badge (AND AN EEVEE) was propelling him at lightning speed towards his best friend's house. His rainbowbright sneakers thudded against the pavement, DS swinging precariously in his hand with every long stride. She had to know this news, and they had to celebrate!
He hop-skipped up the front steps, quickly hugged Audrey's mother when she let him in, and hastily made his way up the stairs to Audrey's room, only tripping over a few.
"Audreeeeyyy!" he cried out, voice its usual singsong, throwing himself onto her bed. "It's been like nine million years, and I haven't seen you 'cept through trading and stuff!" Nevermind the fact that seeing someone's sprite wasn't really the same. "Oh, oh! Thanks for the Butterfree, by the way! And I got the eighth gym badge! Audrey, let's dooo something!"

There was a mystical force in the world known as 'b***h-magic'. If you bitched about something, it was almost absolutely bound to happen, which is why when Audrey had been moaning about someone to save her, the perfect person had shown themselves for the task! A wide grin had split her face as the blur of bright colors and telltale click of bead jewelry hurled onto her bed like a small comet and she all but dove to give her very best friend the biggest hug she could manage in her injured state.
"You have the best timing in the world, Pasha!" She all but sung the words, free from her parentally imposed boredom at long last. Sure they'd passed each other at school a few times and she saw him at lunch when she bothered to go, but Audrey was about to graduate and was in much different classes than him. Social time had been disgustingly limited and his own extracurriculars kept the boy busy and away from her. "And woo, did you really? Are you gonna go straight for the E4? Then you can go to Kanto which is always super fun because you just beat them into the ground." Swinging her leg off the pillow it was resting on, she tossed down her own DS and beamed some more. "What did you wanna do? I can't run or walk super far because of the crutches, but we've got everything we need for indoor entertainment here!" Reaching out she hugged him again, just happy for company. "You'll stay for dinner too, right? You know how mom is." Oh yes, everyone knew how her mother was.

Pasha was pretty sure that he did not, in fact, have the best timing in the world, especially due to heartbreaking events happening on his patrol. Regardless, it was nice to hear his favorite blue-haired friend claiming as much. She complimented him in such perfectly offhanded ways that boosted his spirits; despite seeming outwardly cheery, he wasn't too peppy lately. When everything slowed down and he let his thoughts wander, they always found the worst places to dig up memories and yucky feelings.
But none of that was important right now. There was an endless list of things to do to enjoy the time he had with his best friend, because the times seemed to be fewer and far between. Being a Senshi was such hard work, and Audrey had her busy life to deal with, too.
"I dunno! I might just try to catch some more. Though I'm running out of friends to name them after...maybe I can just name them all after you!" He couldn't suppress his giggling as he thought of an entire team of Audreys. "'course I'll stay for dinner! Especially if there's cake!"
He swung his legs back and forth, heels thumping against the frame, face scrunched up thoughtfully. "Hmm! We could play games, or watch movies, or play 'Make Outfits For Audrey', or...there's all sortsa stuff we could do inside!"

Thinking of a few Pokmeon she certainly did not want to be associated with, she made a lightly horrified face and scrunched up her nose. "You can't do that unless they are pretty girl Pokemon! I refuse to let you name a big male Snorlax after me, Pasha, I just won't let you! I'll have to like...I dunno. Not give you dessert one day or something!" It was probably the worst threat she could ever deliver to him. Tickling was out of the question, they were both at the mercy of that particular conundrum. You couldn't literally threaten Pasha, because he would cry and she would feel awful and it wasn't worth a real threat. So dessert was all that remained! "I'm sure though, mama started making cake the minute you ran in here. She knows how much you love her cakes, she'd probably let you take the whole thing home if you just gave her a big hug or something." Shelley loved children. She volunteered at a local daycare two days a week because she loved children so much, though unfortunately had never had more than the one daughter. When his voice lingered on 'clothes', however, Audrey all but shot up off her bed and winced at the movement, hissing in pain. "Right. Busted leg." Picking up the crutches with disdain, she hobbled over to the daybed wedged in front of her closet and ripped it open. "You have to see this new outfit I got. I totally thought of you when I bought it, which is why I did it." Slim hands reached into the closet and pulled out several items of clothing, all of them almost blindingly neon. There was a plaid shirt with white and pink sneakers to match it, and then a skirt so crazily patterned that it looked like it had come out of a bargain bin. It was paired with a shirt almost the same color as her hair and there were even black stockings with yellow little polka dots up the sides, counterpoint. "Isn't it amazing?!" Jada and Fallon would have both recoiled in horror, as probably would most of her other friends. Elzo would have grinned. Hopefully, Pasha was as exuberant as she was!

Before Pasha had any amount of time to laugh at the thought of blue-haired Audrey-Snorlax, he recoiled in horror at the mention of withheld dessert. "What?! Audrey! You wouldn't do that, would you?" He supposed, really, it was pretty fair. He wouldn't want a Muk or Koffing or something equally as yucky named after him, because he wasn't even a little bit yucky. And Audrey wasn't even a little bit fat.
Noting that he should probably give her mom fifty or so hugs before his departure, he waited impatiently for Audrey to find this incredible new outfit, bouncing on the edge of the bed. If it had reminded her of him, it surely had to be fantastic.
And it was.
"Oooooh, oooh! I love them, Audrey!" With frightening speed, he leapt from the bed and took the plaid shirt from her hands, wide eyes darting between all of the other garments as he spoke. "Where'd you get this one? I wanna get one just like it! We can be matchy and stuff." In his excitement, he'd managed to halfway put on the shirt before even noticing that he was doing so. Sheepishly, he looked to Audrey to be sure it was okay.

It was heartening to know that her choices had been good ones, and were universally approved of by her very first fashion friend. In fact, Pasha had been pretty much her first friend, so his approval was always much more important to her. Giggling at his eagerness to steal her clothing and horror at lack of what she knew he considered the most important part of any visit to the Collins household, Audrey waved at her friend. "Go on, try it! We're almost the same size anyway, would be if you were a girl." Gold eyes glinted as the bluenette poked the side of her breast lightly in explanation.
"If you really like it I can show you were I found it, you totally owe me a mall trip soon! I saw these awesome t-shirts that had like, foil stars on them that shone rainbow in the light? They were amazing, we have to go see them." Flopping down onto the daybed she had a feeling that Pasha might actually layer on everything at once, and she was prepared to take the picture on her phone when that happened. On most people it would look out of place, but he was just as vivacious and lively as the outfit, so it just fit. It was one-hundred percent absolute Pasha. Flopping down onto the daybed and observing, it was hard to stay down.
"We have to go to the mall and be matchy so people can think we're siblings again ok? I love when half of them think you're my little brother." Reaching down into the closet she snagged a screaming electric blue belt with metal studs set into it and pushed it across the carpet, blushing slightly at her words. "Missed you a lot, Pasha." Though her mood was bright, this smile was somewhat sad - she had missed the bright Meadowview youngster. Life'd been a little too dark lately to not see him as much as she wanted.

Confidence returning, he slipped his arms into the sleeves of the shirt, carefully buttoning it up. Sometimes he was a little overzealous when trying on clothes, and he'd had to leave more garments than he could count in dressing rooms because the buttons had mysteriously come off. Finishing with the last button, he put his hands on his hips and leaned to the side, examining himself in her mirror. Any normal, fashionable person could easily see how badly it clashed with his hair, undershirt, and jewelry. All Pasha could see was how Awesome-With-A-Capital-A it was.
"Audreeeyyy look how cool it is! And it's so bright and pretty! You have the best fashion sense ever, I think." He turned to pose for Audrey, pursing his lips slightly with each transition. "And that's why we hafta go shopping! Other than the fact that I definitely do owe you a mall trip. We can go as soon as you think you can do lots of walking. Or I could push you in one of the car strollers!"
Pasha had always wanted to be pushed around in one of the car strollers, but he would let Audrey have this opportunity before he did. It was what best friends were supposed to do, after all.
"I think most of the school thinks you're my sister, but that's kinda silly, since they could look up our last names!" he said with a laugh. "I bet if I made your hair all fadey, they would be really confused." As the belt was fastened over the neon paintsplatter belt he was currently wearing, he glanced up at Audrey, catching the tail end of her expression. He sat down next to her, leaning against her shoulder in a half-hug. "Aw, I missed you too! Nothing's the same without you. And it's almost ice cream time again! I can't eat it all by myself." This year, they were going to have to conquer the Monster Malt. It was serious business.

Slipping an arm around her 'little brother', Audrey put her head on Pasha's shoulder and sighed before giving him a strong hug around the waist. "How about we do a trade-off? First time I have to be pushed because of my leg, but then I promise to run through the mall with you in one. We'd have to go late though, like right before it closed to do that. That way I could let go and everything." They'd done this in a grocery store already, and been summarily thrown out of the grocery store for doing this. The pair had agreed that it was totally worth it to never be able to use a cart in that store without a parent again.
"Then after that, we can tackle that malt and have the best day ever." This sounded, to Audrey, like the pinnacle of awesomeness. In the back of her mind, Elzo slowly worked his way into this picture, but was quickly pushed back. Bros before hos, after all, and when it came to Pasha there was no room for a grabby boy. It was Pasha. Sitting up just a bit, and flicking her hair, she considered his own before ruffling it a bit, careful of the clips. "You think I'd look neat like that? I know the pink was ridiculous, no don't argue with me! It was awful! But purple might be neat, and the pinkish-red you use is really nice. OH HEY! Did you hear that other rumor about the gym teacher being my brother or something?" Fingers snapped as the thought hit her and there was a wide grin.
"Drew Collins? He's a friend from that school I went to for awhile, but my brother? He's got RED hair! Jeesh. People are nuts." Unpinning one of the dozen or so clips from Pasha's hair, Audrey slipped it into her own to tease him. "This one's cute, did you make it new?" Almost everything the boy wore was homemade, and that made it ten times more adorable to her.

Leave it to Audrey to see right through him. He returned the sideways-hug, nearly bouncing with anticipation at their plans. "Okay! But you can't let me run into walls and stuff. I won't let you run into walls! That might hurt and it would be bad if you broke something else. And I'd feel really bad because it would kinda be my fault and everything. I wouldn't wanna ever hurt you!" They'd played it safe with the shopping carts, but car strollers were on an entirely different level. They were cars and had smiling faces painted on the front, for goodness sake!
"I think you'd look super-extra-neat!" he said, laughing, remembering the pink to which she referred. They didn't look a whole lot like siblings when she had the neon pink hair, but it certainly made a statement. A very bright statement, which he admired. He wanted to say as much, but she stopped him before he even had the chance, insisting that he shouldn't argue with her.
"Nuh-uh, nobody can really think that! That's really silly. He doesn't sound anything like you! You gotta tell him to find a different job, though, 'cause he's a gym teacher and that's really ucky. All that running and exercising all day, ughh!" She had said they were friends, after all, and that was some serious advice that needed to be given.
Pasha glanced up at the clip she'd taken from his hair, nodding in response. "Yep, I got really bored the other night and I couldn't really sleep 'cause..." he paused, not wanting to really get into that. This was happy bff time, not sadtime. "But anyway! Mommy found me a really cool hairclip-maker thing at the craft store when she went to get some things to decorate the house, and I had to try it out. Oh, that reminds me!"
With the eager, fumbling hands of a kindergartener, he reached into his pocket and pulled out two hairclips. One was a simple blue "A" in the middle of a gold star - "For 'Audrey'!" he clarified, in case she couldn't tell. The other was a Master Ball, though the "M" was just a tiny bit crooked. "So you can have everything you ever wanted! But you have to play-pretend, because it can't really catch stuff." The last bit was whispered. It could be their secret; nobody else had to know it wasn't real.
