Hello all.
I have been a Lolita for 2 years now.
I know of many styles of lolita, but was wondering about any others I don't know. The styles I know are:
Gothic, sweet, classic, casual, guro, hime, kuro, shiro, sailor, country, wa, qi, punk, ero, ouji/kodona, aristocrat, pirate, and steamloli.
What are the others, if there are any that you know of?

deco lolita, and possibly fairy-kei lolita. I haven't seen very much of fairy-kei/lolita, so it's not a huge substyle but it exists. I think you got all or most of them.

I am so glad the fairy-kei-loli-fusion fad has already died so fast. I know that lolita's pretty silly looking, but that was just beyond silly and into the realm of fell-into-the-hamper in most cases, sort of how most deco lolitas look like they just couldn't decide which hairclips to wear. =/

I dont think this has a real name yet, but I feel like there are two different types of gothic lolita. Theres the old/original gothic lolita, and the new gothic lolita.

The original gothic lolita which was a lot of black with white lace, and black and white coordinates. And then the newer gothic lolita, which is more of a mix with western styles of gothic fashion. So more black or black with blue/purple, and little to no white. I think the new one is also a little more punk then the original gothic lolita.

...or maybe I'm just crazy. XD

sweatdrop I like that style a lot, actually.

I think putting a lot of pastels together looks really nice. I didn't like that a lot of people would wear two shoes of different colors, though.

Alpha, I don't pay a lot of attention to Gothic styles, but to me it doesn't seem like they've changed as much as the sweet and classic styles have. But yeah there's a lot less black&white, which I think a lot of people are happy about. That was just a really bad phase.

Fairy-kei lolita is dead already? Also, I think C a t h a r s i s mentioned in another thread that Decora was dead too? Do you mean just not as hot/popular anymore, or that no one anywhere wears it and it's extremely uncool? Personally, I'm pretty fond of Decora and deco-lolita although I haven't tried them myself yet.

I guess I'm not seeing it done well as a fusion? I've seen good fairy kei and liked it, but never a combination between the two. It's always more heavily to one or the other, or a giant hot mess of pitifully bad coordination.

Plus, I really don't get the habit so many of those girls have of wearing two different colored shoes, but not crossing the colors like that anywhere else [ie: wrist cuffs or hair accessories, etc.].

I recently saw a reference to "cyber lolita" on a site, but I didn't see a picture and I can't imagine how it would be done. I'm assuming it's a cross between cyberpunk and lolita, but that's hard to imagine, for me at least.

Every attempt I've seen at cyberlolita has been godawful. The two styles are just too far apart from one another to work in practice, no matter how fun it sounds in theory. One company, a vinyl/PVC clothing design company, did an okay job, but I can't imagine wearing it to a club or anywhere but a photoshoot. It looks really restricting and exactly like the sort of thing that would make you faint on a dancefloor.

I don't think fairy is dead.... but I only see those types of outfits on Daily_ala_mode.

Decora itself is dead, but deco-lolita is still pretty popular. I saw a lot of deco-lolita at PMX last year. Decora has been dead for a few years; as in nobody wears it except out-of-date Westerners who've just seen "Fruits" for the first time/ weaboos.

It's exactly the same as people who put black-face, white eyeshadow down their nose and eyes, put $1 store lei's on and call it "Ganguro" or "Yamamba". It's out of style, and yeah you'd probably be laughed at. I've see ONE girl on everyday_gyaru that can even get away with the style w/o being mocked; maybe mocked is too strong of a word but still. (At best, it would be assumed that you were cosplaying fashion from another decade, like how sometimes we dress up as Spice Girls from the 90's, or whatever).

I have a good number of friends who've gone to Japan and they said that they never saw any Decoras. Closest thing to it as far as layering and general aesthetics is fairy-kei.

Spuntino, I'll try to find some good coordinates, and you can look around d_a_m, for some too.

Also: I've never seen a good cyber lolita outfit. I've seen a few that were decently passable, but I didn't save the pictures. Usually, it ends up as leaning toward one fashion over the other, either too Lolita or too Cyber. I'm pretty sure they were using Meta's PVC items. In fact, maybe the coordinate I'm thinking of was one of Meta's window displays. I should look for that.

I know what you're talking about. There aren't really many original gothic lolitas around anymore. The majority of them are just sweet lolita in black.

Thanks, all.
I had heard of deco-loli and fairy-kei loli somewhere, but I wasn't sure if they were real styles or not.
Cyber-loli I hadn't heard of, but even before I looked it up I noticed how ridiculous it sounded. You're right- there's no way it could work. One that I saw was okay, but it still didn't quite cut it.
Anyway, thanks again!

And I don't. ;p
No one's barred from liking it just because I think it looks bad. If that were the case, there'd be a lot fewer styles of clothing in this world. haha
