So this is what her life had become now, a mix of wandering and searching, though Terreis was beginning to lose all faith that she would ever find her brother. So many months ago they had been separated, forced apart by her sister. She had no choice but to leave him and then when her guilt had overwhelmed her she left her sister in search of her brother. Many moons had passed since then and there was no sign of him anywhere, nor was their any sign of her old pack.

Now she was a lone wolf, which was never a good thing. Her nights were spent in whatever abandoned den she could find and her days were an filled with endless walking. Such was today's fate as well, slowly padding onward Terreis had finally giving up on filling her mornings with hope that today would be the day that she would find her brother. No, today was just another day, nothing special to it at all.

Derecho had taken more and more responsibilities in the pack as he aged and while he was yet considered an adolescent age wise he was close to crossing into the time of adult and thusly close to taking on the duties he so wished to fulfill.

But that was still in the future - today he was merely on a routine patrol of the boarder, an almost dull job on most days - though exciting from time to time as his mother had proven not to long ago by returning home with two small pups. Derecho hardly expected something as exciting to happen to him and so he was caught by surprise when the wind suddenly blew towards him the scent of an unknown she-wolf. Stopping he lifted his head to call for his mother or Merrill before he paused, struck with a sudden thought, why? It would be good practice for him this encounter and he was confident enough in himself, he could handle one lone wolf even one slightly older then himself.

Angling himself so that he would intercept this unknown entity he leapt from the bushes in front of the spotted female and fixed her with a calculating look. "You have passed into Pack lands stranger" He told the female in a gruff thought not unfriendly voice.

Terreis lifted her head slightly as the other came suddenly into view though she didn't jump or flinch. After all she was a highly trained warrior who was above giving into fear - or at least she was before, now she wasn't too sure what her path was. Bringing herself to a stop Terreis looked upon the adolescent male - of course it would be a male who wished to stop her. Letting out a sigh Terreis thought over her options, well she could fight him or she could just try to convince him to let her pass. She was tired from her non-stop traveling so fighting probably wasn't the best option.

"Aren't you a little young to be a patrol?" She questioned him, though in her old pack it was quite normal for adolescents to take up those task. "Besides I'm just passing through."

Derecho snorted slightly at the too young comment, though he was pretty sure it had just been meant to get under his skin. "Youth is not always a sign of ability" He told her "I have met many adult wolves with the abilities of a puppy and several teens more capable then their older counterparts" Well many might be a bit of an overstatement considering Derecho had rarely left his own pack lands but he had seen a few examples and assumed it to be if not common then certainly not unheard of.

"In any case passing through or not it is generally polite to introduce ones self to the resident pack" He continued. "I am Derecho the Alpha's son" He thought about adding on 'pack ambassador' but that wasn't his official title quite yet.

She had to bite back a comment about how surely as those incapable wolves were likely males. Chances are that would only make him mad and Terreis really didn't feel like fighting, not today. Letting out another sigh at his speech over it being polite to introduce yourself. Did she really need to tell this Derecho her name? Perhaps doing so would get her moving once more.

"Alpha's son huh? Well I'm Terreis." She would have given him her rank and pack but that was something long lost and speaking of such things only brought up bad memories for her. "Now if you don't mind, I'd like to pass." Terreis began to walk on once more, steering around the annoying teen wolf.

Upon further study of the female wolf Derecho thought he detected an air of .. sadness within her, or perhaps she was just tired. Many of the wolves that passed through YMCA were tired, mentally as well as physically and as she came forward Derecho turned to walk alongside her on the trail. "i'll escort you" He offered after a few moments of silence "So no one else will bother you" He clarified, hoping that pointing that out would keep her from rejecting this offer.

"You could rest here for a while.." He offered as they padded along "You seem like maybe you could use a bit of a rest, YMCA is a sanctuary pack. Wolves often stop to rest for a while before moving on again" Some stayed too - in fact many of them did and the packs size was swelling with the influx.

Eyes narrowed in anger for a moment. "I don't need an escort. I am quite capable of finding my way out of your packs lands." Did he think that she was some helpless female that needed his assistance to walk through? Terreis did not need an escort now, nor would she ever need one. She had been on her own for long enough to be able to handle herself in just about any situation.

Pausing midstep she looked at him oddly. Why offer her a place to rest? That didn't make any sense to her - especially when she just explained that she was merely passing through. "A sanctuary pack?" She questioned though she didn't really care to know more. What could possibly make this place a sanctuary? It was no different than any other pack out here - or at least she assumed it to be. "I can't rest, not yet." She gave her head a shake and then resumed walking.

My but she was an angry creature, of course others had told Derecho he was somewhat cranky himself and so her temper didn't phase him much. "Clearly" He stated in a dry voice "All you need to do is walk in a straight line" He pointed out "Sooner or later your bound to leave" Well some wolves might take that as a bit snarky and Derecho was working on being a bit well..less snarky then normal. It was essential if he wanted to preform the task he wished in his pack. "My offer was merely to keep others in the pack from further stopping you..demanding your name...your reasons for being on our lands. I am not the only wolf on patrol but if I accompany you they will assume you have been looked after and leave us be" He told her.

"But yes, YMCA stands for You may come always, my mother and father - well mostly my mother really - run it as a safe haven for travelers, lones..anyone without a safe place to stay, or just those wishing for a bit of company for a spell. Wolves may stay for as long or as little as they like as long as they contribute something while they are here" He explained the pack dynamics - it was an odd set-up he knew bu it worked for them and the pack was quite successful.

Taking in a deep breath she had to admit he did have a good point there. If he escorted her through the packs territory it would certainly be fast than if she went alone and was stopped by several others. "If you must accompany, I suppose you can." The sooner she was free of this land the sooner she was free of him. But then what, as far as she knew she had no real home to return to and her family was long lost. Surely though a sanctuary wasn't the ideal spot for a wolf like her - a once warrior turned wanderer.

Though she wasn't entirely interested in staying even if it was to rest for a short time one thing did catch her attention. He said that the pack was mostly run by his mother. Perhaps there were other packs out there like her own. "Your mother runs the pack and not your father?" She asked as she continued to walk. "Why is that?"

Derecho glanced at the wolf as she gave him permission to escort her - it somewhat amused him, these were his lands after all and gaining her permission to trod upon them even in her company was something he didn't need permission for. No point in starting an argument however and so he let it slide with only one small comment "Oh well as long as it's alright with you then..." His tone making it fairly clear that he didn't care either way.

In any case it seemed he had managed to spark her attention in another way. "They both did for a while, along with our beta Merrill - she comes from the mountains - but father left a while back with two of my siblings, I don't know why I was far to young at the time to understand, and when he returned well he wasn't quite the same wolf that he used to be. He's here and mother tries to include him as she can but its mostly her and Merrill who run things now" Derecho shrugged slightly, it was a minor thing as far as he was concerned for the life he could recall it had always been that way.

Terreis tried not to get too involved in the conversation but she had to admit that it somewhat intrigued her. She wondered why his father didn't take him along when he left, why take some siblings and not others, that didn't make much sense to her. But of course most packs didn't make sense to Terreis in the way they were run. She was used to a female dominated pack, but most others were not like that. Well perhaps this one was in a sense at least, though at one time it sounded like it was run by both a male and a female.

"Why leave with just two of your siblings and not bring you as well?" The question slipped out before she could think about it but she just shrugged it off.

Derecho smiled slightly - yes he'd managed to catch her attention now, engage her in some pleasant conversation and well she wasn't nearly as temperamental as she had been at first. "I believe it had something to do with four pups being a bit of a handful on a long trip, Tempest and Raiden choose to go with our father..Aleu and I stayed behind, honestly I'm rather glad we did - everyone who left returned changed. And not for the better. None of them will tell us what happened but it couldn't have been anything good" He continued.

Derecho thought perhaps his mother knew some of it, but if she did she wasn't sharing, that wasn't entirely surprising if it was terrible she would of course want to shield her offspring from it. "In any case I am content with the mother and sister I still have"

Terreis fell into silence for a while as they continued to walk. Family was a touchy subject for her only because she had lost hers as well as her pack - some were lost to death while others fates were unknown and likely would never be revealed.

"Change is something that cannot be avoided even when ones tries their hardest to do so." She finally commented. She too had changed over the months of wandering since she and her family had left her pack. In that time she had transformed from a warrior who would jump into battle at a moments notice even if it meant costing her her life to protect her pack to a somewhat sad wandered who was torn between a new pack and living alone. This talk of family was somewhat depressing to Terreis as she no longer had one and yet Derecho while he said several of him family members had changed at least still had them around when he needed them.

"Merrill would say there was no point in trying to avoid it and that we ought to merely adapt as life makes us....or something to that effect" Derecho stated "She's something else our Merrill" He continued with a small chuckle before tilting his head slightly to look at the spotted, patchy female a bit better. Her manner of movement had not escaped him - she was soundless, relaxed..but ready. Derecho was an observant wolf and he liked to think himself capable and ready for challenges thrown his way, ready to protect his sister and his pack...but this wolf took ready to a while other level, and he didn't even think she realized she was doing so. It made him curious.

"But enough about my family, you haven't mentioned where you are headed" He prodded her in an off hand manner, hoping that perhaps she would give some clue as to where she was going and what she was doing. Aside from his own curiosity he told himself it was necessary to know such things about the traveler.

This Merrill seemed to have some decent common sense to her, or at least Derecho made her seem like that. One could never truly judge a wolf until they saw them face to face and had a chance to properly interact with them. Even she was not showing her true colors to this young wolf - or at least she wasn't attempting to show the wolf she was at one time. Now she wasn't exactly sure who she was anymore.

"Headed? Nowhere." She replied as they walked along, ears moving slowly to inspect each small sound that reached them. Compared to her Derecho was an awfully noisy walker, but what did she care. "I go where the wind takes me, so I never know where I am headed or how long I will be there."
