Dark strands of hair floated past his vision as the wind picked up part of his forelock, which only issued a sudden shake of the buckskin yearling's head. He was full of energy today, and quite happy that Scar had allowed him to stay in the little valley near the river while she went for a drink. Its not like he wanted to run off on his own or anything, but gosh dang, you'd think she'd give him a little more room to wander! Perhaps he was just feeling cooped up, or maybe he was just tired of having nothing to do but hang out with the older mare. There had to be something... something more enterataining than this.
That's exactly the sort of thought that passed through the colt's head as he gave yet another rambuncus shake of his head, this time without the provoktion of his mane getting in the way. Unaware of anyone that might be in the area, not that he'd care in the first place, the buckskin tossed his head to the sky and partially reared off his forelegs- giving a mighty flare of his nostrils as he did so. Ever since he had gotten bigger the colt had been feeling more uneasy with his inactivety, and carving some sort of 'fun'. Ugh, if only Scar wasn't still on the mend, he had a feeling she'd play with him then. Oh well, nothing to do about that now except- "Haha!" and Shiloh shot off in a wild sprint, racing some imaginary opponent for a stretch before he came to a sudden halt, throwing a kick in his energetic way. He had to admit though, it wasn't as much fun as playing with someone else.

Fliance stood behind a bush and watched the other yearling and yearned to be say hello. But he was afraid. He'd been wandering too long. It was a miracle that he was still alive. He'd seen his father murdered before him and he didn't remember his mother. All he really wanted was herd mates, family, friends.
When the other suddenly took off a short run he felt a pang. Surely he had someone to look after him. Could they play? Would the others mother run him off? He didn't know but he'd been alone too long. So he made a decision against his character. He walked out from the bushes and stood, stupidly and waited for the other to notice. "Umm...hello?"

The buckskin could feel his heart pound against his chest, and the warm blood flow through his veins. It was almost as if his body were demanding he continue in such reckless actions, driving his mind to ponder just what else he could do to rid himself of so much energy. Perhaps he could run his way over to Scar, and if he caught her still at the water's edge, it'd be great fun to sneak up and surprise her with a splash of water. Oh, but he wasn't that lucky. Unfortunately he didn't have much experiance with sneaking, and often times she caught him before he could reach her. Darn, looked like that was off the list of fun things to do. Still there had to be something. There simply had to be.
The colt's ears twisted in thought as he stood and stared at the horizon, throwing a glance toward the direction of the river every once in awhile. Maybe it would be different in time- "Yhee-WHOA!" the buckskin whoolfed out in one breath, taking a surprised and jittery jump to the side. Shiloh's head swung around after he got control of himself, and noticed the perlino for the first time. "I mean, uh, hello", he gulped out, clearing his throat with an embarrised shake of his head. Oh heavens above, talk about being snuck up on!

Fliance shifted from foot to foot nervously. He felt bad for scaring the buckskin. "Uh...umm...I'm Fliance. I'm...I'm sorry. I saw you playing and thought...would you like to play? ....I mean...I know don't know me...and I probably look weird. But...but..." Fli felt like crying all of the sudden. He wanted so bad to be liked, accepted. He just couldn't handle the thought of being chased off. "Um...will your mother think it's weird that I'm here. I...I don't...I'm sorry." He looked up and the other then hung his head. I'm acting weird. I don't know what to do. Please god, let this turn out alright.

Shiloh almost gave a sigh of relief when the other started fumbling with his words, almost. At least ther perlino didn't seem interested in rubbing Shiloh's nose in the fact he had been easily spooked, and that was definately a good thing for the buckskin. For the most part his ears flopped forward into a lazy perk as he looked the other yearling over. He was definately nervous, but then just listening to the other talk was enough to tip him off about that. "Hey Fliance, I'm Shiloh", he offered at length, pondering the best way not to frighten him off. Very rarely did he happen to bump into other mustangs, and the last thing he wanted was a potential play mate to run off on him without so much as getting a single game in first. So, in order to seem friendlier the buckskin gave an idle flick of his tail to show he had no aggression toward the other.
"I'm definately willing to have someone to play with, but are you going to be okay?" He really didn't want to call Fliance out on the stammering, but he had to wonder. "If its because I freaked out on ya, dun' worry, I don't normally do that" the colt grinned. He took the chance to take a step closer to the other yearling, hoping to encourage the idea that he wasn't going to hurt him. "As for a mother? I don't have one..." he paused, thinking best how to explain Scar to Fliance. Well, might as well try, "just a mare I've been hanging around with, and she's not too picky, so there's nothing to worry about." There, hopefully that helped the other fellow's nerves a bit. If not? Then Shiloh might need to try a different tactic.

Fli's ears perked and flicked forward at Shiloh's admission. "You don't have a mother either?" He visibly loosened up and almost grinned. "Are you sure she won't mind? I...I don't have anyone...it's hard to explain. But if you're sure we can play. What do you want to do?" His whole countenance brightened and his back feet even kicked up a bit. Maybe things would work out.

You'd think it would have been harder for Shiloh to say such a thing as he didn't have a mother, but truth was the colt had gotten over it. He'd spent several months with the mare Scar, and in that time they had talked of each others past experiances. And though Shiloh had no qualms with his any more, some of Scar's still chilled him. But that was neither here nor there right now, for he had been fortunate enough stumble across a playmate for today, and that was enough to raise his spirits. "Well then, we seem to be more alike in that aspect", the buckskin went on, liking how Fliance was a bit more loose and he dare say relaxed now. "And sure, she won't mind", he reassured the perlino with a simple bob of his head. He was certain Scar wouldn't out right attack the other yearling, but she did have a tendency to get... oh never mind that. He was certain things would be okay.
Now then, Fliance did bring up a good question. What to do? Shiloh made a 'hmm' sound in the back of his throat as he thought, but couldn't help the prancing of his hooves as he quickly exchanged his weight from one side to another. He was definately excited to have a someone willing to play with him, but that left him at a loss for what to do. He took a few moments to pace a little ways in order to help him think, ears pricked in excitement as his tails swished in his loss of patience. Oh bother, why couldn't he just think of something on the spot?- "Aha!" he burst, throwing his head up and half-way rising from his forelegs, "What do you say to a little race? Just a small one, and after that you can pick the game."

It was strange. They did seem to have that in common. Fliance wanted to ask but stopped himself. Perhaps asking to know such things would seem rude since then didn't know each other all that well. And then really, it seemed not to matter. For now it seemed he was safe and might just end up with a new friend. The thought did wonders for his spirits and he listened and watched as Shiloh pranced and paced and talked to himself, finally deciding on a race. "Sure! I can run. I can run really fast." This brought back brief flashbacks of all the times he'd run for dear life but he quickly squashed the thought. "Where do you want to start? And who should do the count down? And are you gonna cheat? I don't like cheaters." He frowned at Shiloh and then grinned and danced on the tips of his hooves, finally comfortable in his skin after so long.

"Good!" the colt laughed, happy that Fliance wasn't opposed to a race, and even happier that he thought himself fast. Shiloh certainly was, though probably not the fastest in the plains; at least he didn't think he was. All he really had to race against were the foals he had lived with way before he had ever met Scar and had still lived with his mother. In a way, he seemed to recall himself mostly winning the races, but there were a handfull that had bested him. How did he remember that much? Well, a colt never forgot the icky feelings of losing, and it had certainly stuck with Shiloh throughout the year of his life. Still, this was for fun, and the buckskin colt was definately up for a bit of that.
"O'course I ain't gonna cheat", he chuckled, shaking his mane out at Fliance in good humor. He might have wondered just what sort of cheaters the other colt had run into in his life, but he wasn't going to pry for that information right now. For right now, it was time for a race! "How about I'll do the countdown, we'll start right here-" he paused to walk up to Fliance and stand shoulder to shoulder with the other colt before going one. "And we can race to that boulder in the distance", he gesture with his muzzle to a fairly sizeable rock that marked at least 200 yards away, give or take a dozen. "I'm gonna start the count now, so get ready!" he warned, before proceeding to countdown from 5. Shiloh prepared himself to spring forward at the 'GO', ears perked and eyes focused on the boulder. Finally after he had past the 1 count, he shouted, "GO!" and sprang forward.

Fliance pranced happily in anticipation and toed his way over to where Shiloh wanted to start. He let his fear and misgiving completely leave him so he could enjoy and run. He bowed his head and dug in his hooves and waited for the go. He let himself concentrate only on his hooves in the dirt and the promise of a good workout, completely trusting Shiloh. When he heard the shouted signal to move he released his tensed muscles and moved forward at an alarming rate, hoping Shiloh was by his side or at least keeping up.

He wasn't expecting the burst of speed from Fliance to be so... bursty. The colt had been so shy, to think that he could be this fast was completely unseen for the buckskin colt. Nonetheless, Shiloh sprang forward as well, pounding his hooves into the ground to keep pace with the white perlino. Maybe he could have done better at the start if he was actually antcipating Fliance's speed, but as it was Shiloh was having a difficult time of keeping up. Just find his stride, he told himself, and concentrated on not keeping pace, but controlling the length of his strides and the power behind every push forward. Momentarily he had fallen back, but was now gaining once he focused enough to stay within his element. This was certainly going to be a challenging race!

She hadn't been too far off, just walking around to stretch her legs a bit, maybe get the lay of the land before deciding where to move next. Either way, she was certain that they were fine where they were for a little while longer, and should probably be heading back in the direction of Shiloh. Hopefully that colt hadn't gotten himself into any bit of trouble while she was gone, she would hate to have to come back to that. For the mare was surprisingly protective of her little ward, knowing full well that he was still just a colt- a child in most instances. And the last thing she needed to be doing was getting him out of trouble, especially since her strength had yet to return, and her body still ached with anything faster than a brisk walk. So, Scar headed for the little clearing she left the buckskin in. She'd be there in a matter of moments, she was sure.

Fli had turned his head momentarily to see if Shiloh was okay. He hadn't heard the bounding of hooves and had been a tad worried. He liked to win, sure, but he wasn't above throwing a race if it meant making a friend. When he turned his head around and saw her, he shrieked and turned tail in terror. She'd come out of nowhere or so it seemed and she was huge. At least to him. And scared everywhere. She terrified him. He was sure she'd hurt him and so he ran his way, faster that he'd raced with Shiloh, to the bushes he'd been hiding behind to cower and whimper. Scared out of his mind he lay down and tried to shut out the memories and old terrors.

Shiloh had found his stride and was rather happy he did, after all it would be pretty embarrising to lose to Fliance so badly, now wouldn't it? THe young mustang was definately feeling like he could finally get rid of all of this negative energy that had been burning in his muscles, the need to run and play would do that to someone so young as him, you know? However, he wasn't expecting the white fella in front of him to suddenly shriek and veer off the path. Obviously something had spooked him, and obviously that spooked Shiloh in return. The buckskin colt screamed and twisted in his attempt to spot whatever danger was around them. His tail tucked slightly as the colt pranced in place, swinging his head wildly around. The only thing he saw so far was the tail end of a very fast Fliance skidding into the brush, and for the life of him the only thing he could think of was 'DAMN that guy could run!' That was probably the last thing he should be thinking about considering the danger that could be lurking...
Right! Danger! Shiloh snorted and stomped his hoof to the ground as he spun to look around him once more, his rump crouched close to the ground as his tail tucked further. There was absolutely nothing he could see that would be scary. Unless... just maybe- the colt glanced to the familar approaching figure on the hill and lashed his tail out behind him, straightening from his cowardly posture. Shoot, the last thing he wanted to do was look like a coward in front of Scar... and Fliance to boot. He hadn't played with anyone in forever! "Hey Scar", the colt called, rather blandly in his displeasure of himself, and turned to trot to where Fliance had hidden himself. Hopefully the little fella hadn't run off on him, that would suck mightly.
"Fliance?" Shiloh called hesitantly. "It's alright buddy, Scar scares me too sometimes, especially with how quiet she is." The last thing he wanted to do right now was lose his new friend, but he wasn't sure how he could coax him out from hiding. To say the least, Shiloh wasn't very good at playing the 'comforting' type.

Now that was just down right rude- who was she kidding? She looked like a monster no doubt, and had gotten the same reaction from other mustangs in the area as well. Truth be told, it was no skin off her back, as the mare was quite use to the treatment she had been recieving as of late. That being said, she did find it almost amusing to watch Shiloh react to the strange yearling, and snorted in return as Shiloh greeted her. Oh the poor sucker, that was probably a nice blow to his pride now wasn't it? Scar had no idea how to raise a growing colt, considering she'd never even had her first foal yet, but she seemed to think that deflating his ego was a good thing. In small doses at least.
"Yes it's just me, the big and scary mare who can move no faster than a walk," she barked a laugh as she slowly came down the side of the hill to enter the little valley. It would be so nice to finally be all healed up, she was sure. Heck, even a run would feel good right now. Still, she wasn't about to go poking her nose into the boys' business, and once at the bottom of the hill decided that a nice shady spot would be a perfect place to lay down. "Don't mind me, I'm just here to watch over the buckskin 'Shy-boy' there," she assured, while not addressing the perlino yearling directly, loud enough for him to hear.
