Yuma, one of the priests who had lived in these lands since the time of the war against the vultures, paused in step to peer back over his shoulder. Behind him a nervous looking female with a terribly scarred face peeked out from the den she had been given - now that she had been accepted into the pride.
He rolled his eyes and gave a small, impatient cough, wondering again why he had agreed to do this. Could the avian who had led her here not have stayed to be her...'familiar'. Why did he have to get lumbered with the job? He had far more important things to do in the pride than babysit some poor tragic female like her.
"Come on, Anya, we don't have all day." His brush of a tail swept at the sand and he snorted loudly. "I have other things to attend to as well, you know."
Anya, wordlessly, stepped out of the den, moving very slowly and very cautiously. She was very thankful to the avian and to the jackal for helping her out but...but she wasn't sure she deserved such kindness.
After all, she had brought all this on herself. Or so she thought, anyway.
Even still, she'd try and make an effort since the jackal, Yuma, was also trying. She had quickly decided that he wasn't exactly enjoying having to take care of her.

Tibu was already out and about that morning. She didn't have any cubs to take care of at the moment, her sister and her mother were out for the moment and she didn't have much to do. She was welcomed into the pride a while ago when she was younger however she was still getting into the swing of things at the moment. She was often either working or alone, she needed to figure out something to do with herself. So she was wandering the pride this morning until she had to go take care of cubs.
She let out a yawn before she looked around, at the moment she didn't see anyone. She flicked her hair out of her eyes before sighing she was about to heard back toward her den for a nap. With the busy time that she had around the pride it was hard to find friends she was either really busy or the others around the pride were busy. She stretched her paws out a few times before glancing back and spying a lioness. A smile grew on her face, she had never seen her before. She also noticed a small canine with her. The lioness couldn't fight the urge to make a new friend, and when she was this bored she really wanted the company.
She wandered over to the other lioness and the Jackal before smiling. "Hello there!"

Yuma's ears swivelled around at the sudden voice calling out to them. Who was this, then? And, a moment later his head turned to, setting eyes upon the approaching female. He didn't recognise her at all and for a moment his nose twitched, taking in her scent and recording it to memory as most canines do.
"Hello."
He paused a moment and threw a glance back at Anya, sighing in exasperation as he saw she was huddled down submissively, her eyes filled with nervousness.
"Can we help you with something?" He continued, directing his question towards the strange female.
Anya gave a small sniffing sound and took a step closer to the jackal, seeming to think somehow that she'd be safe with the little canine there to protect her. She had never been in a pride before and it seemed it was going to take her a while to get used to the cultural change.

Tibu was a little surprised and confused by the lioness. she really didn't know what to do with herself at the moment. She looked at him not knowing what to do or how to address the lioness, she was thinking about wandering away but she knew that wasn't that nice. She was confused on why the lioness was acting like that but when the Jackal spoke she felt a little bit better she could talk to him at least. She smiled slightly before shaking her head. I hope Im not bothering you. I was just curious on who you were." She laughed quietly before shrugging. "I've snever seen you around here."
She looked down at the lioness as she cocked her head but then she straightened up and grinned at the pair. "My name is Tibu! It's nice to see some fresh faces around here." She nodded proudly.

The jackal gave a small, curt nod. He was generally a very serious fellow, carrying out his duties with great care and consideration. That was one reason why he had agreed to take care of Anya. He would be letting down the rest of the pride if he'd turned her away.
"I'm Yuma, been here since the battle with the vultures, but I tend to stay around the temple myself."
He indicated the scarred female with a tilt of his head. "And this is my...well...I'm taking care of her until she gains a little confidence. She's very new. Only been here a couple of days. An avian brought her here and asked whether someone could keep an eye on her until she settled. That 'someone' happened to be me."
A long pause ensued and then; "I don't know her name."
Anya, who seemed to be struggling to make eye-contact with the other female, finally turned to look at her. The scars on her face were still vivid, but they were healing now and, though it wasn't certain that the fur would grow to cover them again - it seemed they weren't going to get infected.

Tibu nodded toward the little creature. "It is nice to meet you Yama." She then turned toward the lioness curious about her, she felt horrible looking at the creature and it being so scared. "It is very nice of you." She chuckled slightly before moving a little closer to her and then nudging her very slightly. "It's nice to meet you too." She smiled before lowering herself to the ground and smiling at her, sitting across from her.
"May I know your name?" She asked before looking at the scars. "Oh my. Would you like something to make those feel better?" she asked curiously. She wasn't a healer that was for sure but she knew how to take care of some scrapes and such.

"And you." He replied. Whilst never overly friendly he certainly knew his manners and would never do anything to outwardly offend a member of the pride.
He sat and watched as the lioness moved around to the white and pink female, head slightly tilted, tail brushing gently against the sand.
Anya paused and swallowed, her eyes shifting up nervously to look at Tibu, ears flicking back and forth. She didn't draw away this time, clearly sensing that this other female wouldn't mean her harm.
But there was a problem...an awkward one, at that.
"She can't talk." Yuma replied for her. "Don't know why. She was brought here by an avian who found her wounded and alone out in rogue lands. She wouldn't speak a word to her nor me either. We don't know what happened to her or her name or...anything really."
He shrugged a little. "But we hoped that by coming here she may start to recover."
He sighed. "But I don't know how long it will take for that to happen."

Tibu smiled slightly at the lioness she was being as kind as she could to the other lioness. she didn't want the lioness to feel uncomfortable she wouldn't like to make her feel uncomfortable. She sat up before looking at Yuma. "Well... i'm sure she can talk." She chuckled a little bit before flicking her hair out of her eyes and then smiling slightly. "If you want I can help you out with taking care of her." She moved a little closer to the lioness and licked the top of the lioness's hair.
"I can help bring some food, you never knkow how long it will take some one to heal." she laughed slightly before looking down at the lioness. "Are you hungry sweetie?" She asked curiously, she flicked her hair out of her eyes then turned toward the canine once more. "Would you like some help?"

Yuma's ears straightened a little. This lioness Tibu wanted to help? Truly? Well, if she wanted to help he certainly wasn't going to say no. He didn't exactly enjoy carting her about everywhere and listening to her little sniffing sounds. It'd only been a couple of days but he just wanted to shake some sense into her.
"Be my guest." He replied. "I'm certainly not all that cut out for babysitting." He didn't mean it to sound cruel, he was just being honest, but his words did affect Anya.
She dropped her ears and looked apologetically at the jackal, exaggerating her facial expression so that its meaning was conveyed clearly.
And then, she turned to glance at the other female, already growing more comfortable in her presence. At the offer of food, her ears drew up a little and she gave a faint nod, along with a small but shy sort of smile.

Tibu giggled slightly before grinning ear to ear smiling at them before chuckling. "Well! then I really am the lioness for your job." She laughed slgithly before nodding toward the Jackal. "I'm a nanny around here and I can easily help when I'm not taking care of the cubs." She then looked at the lioness with a smile on her face it was a rather large smile she was happy to have something else around here plus that meant she was going to make a new friend! The idea sounded pretty great. Even if the lioness ended up not even talking she knew it wouldn't be that bad. "Well." She stood up and nodded. "I will be back soon then with something to eat, don't wander away too far. There is a open den across from mine if you guys want to move closer." She chuckled before nudging the lioness playfully. ""I'll be right back!"

He gave Anya a small push to encourage her to move towards the den which Tibu had indicated, huffing with impatience at how distracted and reluctant the lioness always seemed.
She had been like that when Kucha had handed over guardianship to him, constantly looking back over her shoulder as if hoping that she might return.
"She'll be back." He spoke up as if reading her thoughts. "And like I've already explained. Stop being so jumpy around lions in this pride. I've not met a vicious one yet and I doubt I ever will."
He sat in front of the den and curled his tail around him.
Anya, with her head drooping, flopped down just in the entrance of the den, sighing slightly with relief in the shade.
And then she lifted her head and frowned towards the jackal, finally sticking her tongue out at him to show that she didn't much care for him suggesting she was a coward.
What did he know!? He hadn't been attacked by anyone! He hadn't been...been...
She turned her head away and pressed a paw across the scars on her face, closing her eyes tightly. She hated those scars, for making her ugly and for being a constant reminder of what had happened...
But Yuma was right. There were good people here. People who she could come to be friends with. Perhaps this had been a good idea after all.
