A simple question with a myriad of answers- how do you play Pokémon? Without giving away strategies, how do you approach the competitive metagame, and how do you view your opponent?

Personally, I see the metagame as a field of mental chess. Using OU Pokémon (and legends, but I'm sure you've seen my reluctance to use them in the past) leaves a bitter taste in my mouth- I would much rather confuse and confound my opponent using UU and NU Pokémon. By the time I'm finished, it's not about whether I win or lose- it's about whether or not I'm amused by my opponent's mental acuity by the end of the match. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they play Pokémon and Shoddy.

I see the metagame as a competitive dance, a battle of wits between two opposing forces.

Brute force is distasteful to me, as I prefer subtlety in my workings. You'll never find me with a team full of blitzers, as I find it boorish. That's never been my way.

If I see a team full of the 'standard six' OUs (Blissey, Skarmory, Infernape, Gyarados, Scizor, and Lucario) with movesets yanked straight from Smogon, I will more often than not laugh at your team. Yes, Smogon is a wonderful tool, but I can't stand fighting trainers who can't even think for themselves. There are more than 400 Pokémon- why not deviate from the norm?

I fight with subtlety, a strategic mind, and the ability to read my opponent's every move to figure out their psychological behavior. I don't fight my opponent's team- I'm aiming to figure out my opponent's psyche.

I always fight my opponents with respect, but the former statement is my ulterior motive laid out, in a nutshell.

What do you bring to the battlefield?

I've always had a tendency towards In-your-face Offence. Though, of course, reckless power never got anyone very far. I try to balance it with Defence and some curve ball strategies, while still maintaining the offencive backbone.

Im trying to make my team, an annoyance, one of those trainers you battle, and just get frustrated the whole time, wheither you win or lose.
I inclict so many conditions i sometimes feel bad for my opponet. I just finished making a pokemon that could accomplish what i want.

I use a wall, and another wall that inflicts conditions more.
Confuse Ray, Attract, Toxic, Sand Attack. I mean if they switch out there pokemon only one will stay but still, during battle switching is very inconvenitant., unless you use U-Turn.

So very fun, i basically toy with my opponets.

It's hard to decide with me but I try to make a team that can survive a hit or two, hope they can outrun most of my opponents team, and I guess luck on stat wise during battle.

I'm with Luther Olathes. I like offensive teams, usually running anti-walls for the popular walls (like bliss, skarm etc).

I'm probably the worst at predictions so I tend to run fairly self sufficient movesets.

I don't really mind any tier provided the person follows it. Garchomp in OU GTFO.

For me though, I find Metagame to be about anti-meta. (If you play YGO, I just have to say Rock Stun). I find some OU's that are commonly used have UU counters which is fun to learn about. Basically, I like researching/learning about meta than playing it.

... Who knows... I run through the course of the battle... I just use whatever is the best at a given moment...

I love strategy, but when it is stoped... you know you have to read through the whole match for a new approach...

By the way brains+brawls... = win

brains and power wont win alone. you will need speed too.

My battle style is best described by how I construct my teams. When I construct teams I try to cover as many "common threat" angles as possible as I equally seek to protect my team as much as I seek to destroy my opponent's. I have absolutely no problem with using common OU Pokemon or Legendaries (non-ubers) as handicapping my roster options hurts no one else except for myself, though with that in mind, I can guarantee you that you won't ever see strictly OU Pokemon in my teams as UU/NU Pokemon bring alot of ambiguity of the capabilities of my team to the majority of the opponents I face as most have seldomly seen half of what I use in battle (or at the very least, in the particular ways that I use them). Similar to you, I also view the actual battle itself as a mental game of chess, trying to predict my opponent's every moves (and thier possible moves after that) in hopes of staying several turns ahead (in my mind anyways). As I feel that if you control the pace of the battle, you've already won; All that's left is the technical end result.

Mine is moderately complex, but moderately simple! I like about 1 or so of each the standard entry hazard and a wall on my team. The rest is depending on what im in the mood for, and how my opponent acts before the battle! If they are super annoying ill just get my stall team together and annoy the heck out of them! If i just wana get through the battle quick Ill just stick in there my epic sweepers, and a revenge killer or 2! But for me, I think i like risky strategies that can either pay off big time, or totally blow up in my face! My main show of that is my transforming smeargle. He is one of my favorite pokemon to have in a battle, because in the correct situation, it totally counfound my opponent! I usually only use him in my double battles tho. Double battles, to me, are the most fun! Im kinda passive about tiers tho. I mean Ill have a team with a mix of just about every tier! Makes it more interesting that way!

Back then, I went all offensive. No stat-lowering attacks.

Now, I choose 3 Pokemon and give them a very useful stat-lowering or stat-enhancing attacks, such as Nasty Plot

Zetshimaru is a solid fighting type trainer, and just like fighting types Zetshimaru loves brute strength. (not just attacking power, that is not true power)

Granted Zetshimaru doesn't rely on this only. Zetshimaru uses Zetshimaru's head in a battle too. Zetshimaru looks at each battle similar to dueling. Find a weakness and destroy the foe, all while covering one's own weakness. A weakness can be something as simple as using non-standard attacks.

Zetshimaru loves to fight ghost mainly though, with their tactics being the opposite of Fighting types is Zetshimaru favorite match.

This makes Zetshimaru sound power hungry now doesn't it? Oh well.
