 Aer pranced along towards the meadow she liked to play in. Her wings fluttered once in a while, causing her to rise a few inches above the ground, but not too much more. As she went along, she sung a springtime song. It was a perfect day to be out and playing. The sky was blue, the clouds were extra fluffy and white, and her poppa knew where to look for her because she'd asked for permission to go out this time.

 Ganesha trotted out on his yet-unsteady new legs, silver hooves barely disturbing the fresh shoots of green grass, red and black unicorn swishing. His first day of life, and it looked like quite the pretty one. Well, his first day out of the basket. It just felt like his first day of life, since there hadn't been much to do in the basket; it had been very boring and very dark, but his mother had sung to him. The singing had made everything better. As he trotted, he tried to recall a song she'd sung to him, and since he couldn't remember the words, he hummed it as best he could. Since he'd closed his eyes to try to remember the tune, he wasn't watching where he was going and trotted right into the lavender and dark red filly in front of him.

Being run into had only one natural consequence. Aer went tumbling with a sound close to a squeak. Rolling along, she finally came to a stop a few feet away.
"Ow..." She stood up slowly and shook herself, then looked around. She saw a red, black, and white colt back where she had been originally.
"Hey! You back there! You ran into me!" Normally, she was the perfect little lady, but hey, she'd just been sent rolling. She had a right to be peeved!

There went Ganesha's hard-won balance when he accidentally rammed into the filly, and it was a mercy he'd hit her with his chest and not his horn. "Ooof!" he said as he tumbled down almost on top of her. "I am sorry, I was not looking," he apologized, looking at the pretty filly with his sunlight-colored eyes. And he had found quite the loveliest and, at that point in his life, strangest filly to trot into, literally.
She was the color of the sky at twilight and deep red roses, with wings like those pretty things his mother called butterflies that glittered and what he would later find out were called glasses were perched on her long nose. He peered behind the spectacles and noted orange eyes with no discernible pupil. Like his eldest brother, she had a tail of pure hair, no horn, and solid hooves. It made him realize he probably looked a little strange, too, and this awkwardness made him scramble clumsily to his young legs. He nosed at her, a little guilty for having run into her, making some gesture to help her to her feet.

Aer gave the colt a dirty look. She wasn't new to walking like he was. She snorted delicately and heaved herself up. He was staring at her and she felt herself getting mad. "Whatcha starin' at? Never seen a girl 'fore?"
She shook herself off, little twigs and pieces of grass going flying. Grumbling to herself, she turned and began pulling out pieces that were still stuck in her coat. She looked at the colt over her glasses and said, "You gonna keep starin' or you gonna help fix the damage you did?"
It was definite, Aer was in one of her prim and proper moods.

Gane was taken aback by the filly's sharp retort. "Of course I've seen a girl before, I've seen my matar," he stammered. "I've just never seen someone with wings like a butterfly's or those things on your nose." He stepped forward a trifle uncertainly to begin tugging twigs and grass and leaves from the filly's mane and tail. Well, there went first impressions. Smooth, and she was certainly not the beautiful butterfly she appeared, if her retort was anything to go by.

She felt bad now. Sighing softly, she murmured a shy, "Sorry."
Uncle Claude would've been upset if he'd heard the way she'd snapped at the colt. So would Poppa Zui for that matter.
"The thing on my face is a pair of glasses. Poppa Zui says I'm what's called a flutter."
She paused for a moment to think, then exclaimed, "Oh! I forgot my manners! My name's Aerlinniel. You can call me Aer!"
She beamed at the colt and asked, "What's your name?"

Ganesha smiled, glad she'd stopped snapping at him and slightly confused by her sudden conversion to a sweet princess. "Flutters are Soquili with wings like yours?" he asked, being probably the smartest of him and his two older brothers. "I'm Ganesha. Ummm. I guess you can call me Gane," he added, uncertain of the shortened name which came so easily for her and so awkwardly for him. "Your glasses and wings are very beautiful, as are you." This was absolute truth, as Ganesha felt sure that, with the possible exception of his pure mother, Aer was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen.

Aer blushed prettily and giggled. It was the first time she'd been called pretty outside of the members of her herd and family. She nodded her head at his question, "Mmhm, that's what Poppa Zui and Uncle Claude say. They know ever'thin."
She bumped him with her shoulder gently, I like your name. Ganesha sounds cool. Do you like your short name or your full name better?"

Ganesha smiled, settling deeper into this "princess mode," and definitely preferring it to the sharp temper she'd displayed earlier. "I prefer Ganesha," he replied, his smile turning a little shy. He cocked his head at the comment that Zui and Claude knew everything. "Do your uncle Claude and your...papa...Zui really know everything?" If there was one thing that was true of Ganesha, even at this tender age, it was that he wasn't really the sort to believe in fathers. If he had kids of his own, that'd be a different story, but at present...no. Fathers simply did not exist in his worldview.

Aer nodded her head, "Uh huh." Of course, her Poppa was her world, so of course he and Uncle Claude just had to know everything.
She sang softly about how family was a wonderful thing and daddy especially. She was definitely a daddy's girl.

Ganesha listened, completely transfixed by the song. She was a good singer. Sure, Ganesha didn't care for the positive comments on fathers, but still. Aer was beautiful, she had a lovely singing voice, and she was a rather sweet little princess when she wasn't showing off her temper. Yep, he was all set to fantasize about Aer as his beloved princess. Slowly, uncertain of the words, he sang the Sanskrit lullaby his matar had sung while he was still in his basket, his voice low for a colt's voice.

Aerlinniel stopped singing and listened to her new friend. He had a decent voice, even if she didn't understand all the words. It would be good to have someone to sing with. She smiled softly and started to sway to the music. She usually thought most of the foals her age were overly silly, but Ganesha was different. He acted more like a prince or maybe a knight like her uncle Claude and cousin Lafayette. She liked knights, they were fun to be around.

Ganesha faltered to a halt when he came to what he remembered, flushing that he didn't remember more and that he's just sung in a language that wasn't familiar to Aer. That wasn't polite, she wouldn't understand the words. Well, quite honestly, Ganesha didn't know all of them, either, but at least he knew a few words, which was more than Aer. "I-I'm sorry, that was..." he faltered to a halt again, uncertain of what to say or how to apologize.

Aer shook her head, "No no. Please... Don't stop because of me. I don't know what you were saying, but it was really pretty." She looked at him, prancing from one foot to the other. She'd never heard anything so foreign and lovely at the same time.
"Do you think you could teach it to me? I'd really like to learn it." She gave him a pleading look as she pranced back and forth in front of him.
